I remember an interview with the ex Coventry winger Dave Bennet. He'd have a shot of rum before kick off. Seems a popular tactic in the 70s and 80s.

I always remember Tommy Johnston barfing on the pitch. He seemed ok after that game though, always looked like he was enjoying it.

I might bring it back for MNF 5-a-side.

Wrapped up like a present? He had a hand on him and the forward had a hand on his leg. So what?

Never a penalty.

Behave and stop fabricating. Elphick has two arms around the striker, whose hand is not in fact on Elphick's leg.

Tommy has let a striker get in front of him and outmuscle him in a set-piece situation so he's wrapped his arms around him and the lad hasn't been able to move. It's a penalty.

If that was given every time there'd be half a dozen penalties in every match and they'd last two hours.

It's still a foul inside the box against the attacking team. Therefore, a penalty.

I don't recall many, if any of their players appealing at the time. The ref got it wrong, as he did a couple of things that night.

God help any team you referee then.

If you took a screenshot of that another second later you will see that the Yeovil player's arm continues on around Elphick's back.  That constitutes holding, an offence punishable with a direct free kick.  Six of one half a dozen of the other, impossible to call as both offences occur at the same time.  What are you going to give?  Correct decision IMO?  Play on.  I've experienced enough of incidents in my time to know that is what the referee should have done.  I always try to see the referee's point of view but this one he got wrong.

Listen I'm a Villa fan and we're all prone to blind allegiance at times but a foul is a foul, a penalty is a penalty. You'd swear the fella had gone down in the box without anyone near him. I really don't understand how anyone can look at that situation and see anything other than a foul.

All right then.  Explain to me why is his left arm across Elphick's chest?  He's holding him off, and, his right elbow is in our no 4's ear.

Have you ever been tugged to the ground? Your arms go out automatically, He's being pulled down so he's trying to find leverage

It was never a clear cut penalty and justice was done when he missed.

My arms don't shoot out to the side when I'm getting a tug.
