Middlesex are now top after beating Yorkshire. Lancashire are second and The Bears third. One point separates the top three and 15 points separate the top five. It's very tight up there.

Middx by an innings and 4 runs. Isn't it Yorkshires first defeat in nearly 2 years
Table assuming draw at Trent Bridge
Middx    9    118
Bears    9    117
Lancs    9    117
Durham 8    107
Yorks     8    103
Somer   8     93
Notts     9     93
Surrey   9     76
Hants    8     70

Lost to Modflesex after we'd won the title last season, our first defeat since losing to Midflesex the previous season! Pointless T20 cost us badly this week.

It's not pointless just because you don't like it! Lots of people, myself included, enjoy all three formats.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather win the Championship once than win three Twenty20 Cups in a row, but I still enjoy watching us in that competition.

Dave C, and any other H&Vers, me and our kid are considering the Bears Pears 50 over game on 24th July, if the weather is decent, if you fancy joining us.

I think T20 is great because it's made people change the way they play, pretty much every 'invention' in batting and bowling in the last 10 years has come from T20.  Look at Root a sa perfect example, 10 years ago he'd have been a solid player who ticked along at 50-60%  strike rate playing a classy cover drive, fantastic off his legs and with a decent hook for the high ball.  T20 being a thing when he was developing means that he has all of those things but he's also willing and able to slog to cow corner, he'll run down the wicket and smack a spinner back over his head, he has a fantastic reverse sweep and he brings all of those into play in the test arena which makes it much harder to set fields and means he normally scores at 80-90% instead.  A lot of those shots existed before but they were rarely used T20 has made them a standard part of the 'kit' and yes it does mean that batsmen take more risks but it also makes the game more alive.

I bet end of the summer nobody will remember what happened in the one off game of T20 that Sri Lanka and England played. Was it just so Wales could host a match?

Must be. I've looked on a map and it's quite near Newport.

Gary Ballance named in the England squad for the first Test which I'm quite surprised about. Beginning to think they're doing it on purpose to derail Yorkshire's title challenge.

Strange call bringing Balance back in, think it's only 1 century he's got for Yorkshire all season? Can see it backfiring as the Pakistan bowling attack will really work him over.

EDIT: Just checked and he averages only 33 this season. To put that average in comparison with other England hopefuls/those that have recently played - Hildreth (72), Sam Robson (69), Borthwick (58), Bell (48).
