Gary Ballance named in the England squad for the first Test which I'm quite surprised about. Beginning to think they're doing it on purpose to derail Yorkshire's title challenge.
I'm gonna say this with fingers crossed....''What challenge is that then?''

Not the hit and run nonsense, that's for certain!

The only thing I like about it is that Yorkshire use the tournament to give young lads on the fringes a game. They are mostly bowlers so I guess it's character building, bowling four overs for plenty! Gillespie gets a lot of unjustified stick on Twitter because he doesn't prioritise the competition, I'm sure he wants to win every match but I don't have a problem with anything he's doing. Yorkshire and England certainly benefit from what he's doing.

I think most counties do it, currently bears blooding Mark Adair a young Northern Irish lad, given Josh Poysden a few games who gets in the county side on occasion now when conditions suit. Reccordo Gordon another
who does appear to be struggling, takes wkts but goes for plenty

That's why I get a bit frustrated when people complain about Gordon, etc being given games in the T20.  You have to give young players game time somewhere and Gordon does take wickets so he's worth keeping involved to see if he can develop that extra bit of control.  I don't watch a huge amount of county championship games (because they're not televised usually 3 days are in the week whilst I'm working (from home where I could have it on the TV in the background) but I watch a fair amount of the shorter format stuff and I think there's a bit of a case of fans not giving younger players much of a chance at times.

I did watch the T20 Roses clash as it was on the TV, I quite enjoyed seeing our side with some young lads beating Lancashire's strongest one day team. It wasn't a high scoring game and went down to the final over so the batsmen never got on top which possibly made it a bit more enjoyable. Who am I kidding, beating Lancashire made it enjoyable!

Odd thing in the Worcester game. Joe Clarke was given out LBW on 31, walked off, crossing the boundary rope, only to be called back because the square leg umpire heard a bit of bat on it. WTF? Leicester not happy, Clarke went on to make 123 and Worcs won the game.

You may see Mark Cosgrove getting fined/suspended as he lets say voiced his concerns with the umpires overturning the decision.

The Yorkshire leadership made a decision several years ago that they would concentrate on Championship cricket and have stuck to their guns with spectacular results. I don't follow the politics of what is happening up there apart from talking to their supporters when we play them in the championship but I would not be surprised if they have come under pressure to make more of a effort in the T20 prior to launching a Leeds/Sheffield franchise.

As far as bowlers are concerned, I fail to see the benefit of a young seam bowler using virtually no run up bowling slow long hops with no slip cordon. The irony that Arnold Sidebottom, one of the best swing bowlers I have ever seen almost single-handedly propelled  the Bears into the finals two years ago by getting smashed for a record number of sixes in his last over is not lost on me.

Small wonder that we protect our only genuine swing bowler from this competition even though we could probably include him as a batsman.

Must have had a few injuries if Arnie was having a bowl!

He most certainly isn't dead...alive and well, 62 and earning a living on after dinner circuit.
He played 20 times for Man Utd which included 2 games against us. Moved on to Huddersfield in 75 then Halifax.
Got one test cap v Aussies at Trent Bridge (1985), father of Ryan Sidebotton who i think Ad was referring to when he quoted Arnie!!!
