I thought the Football League show was bad, but it wasn't as shit as that Channel 5 abomination I watched last night.

I agree.

As i said earlier. The whole thing was totally unprofessional and in the main unwatchable l I lasted about 40mins before switching off. Tripe!

My brother in law supports a recently relegated Championship team and was suicidal this morning that getting relegated has coincided with the dreadful taking over by C5 of the highlights rights. I didn't see it, but he said it was phenomenally bad, bad enough to make you miss Steve Claridge.

I watched far more of the Football League show last season than MOTD (for reasons I don't need to explain on this board), and generally enjoyed it.

Simple, stripped down, a bit of brief chat and tons of football. The only thing that was poor was when they sent that over chummy tosspot 'Clem' anywhere

I agree.

One thing I liked about it was that it seemed to go on for AGES.

I used to really like the football league show - watch it on the iplayer sunday morning, long enough to ease you through the worst of a hangover, no time for messing about, just goals goals goals

My Mam who is in her 70' s is a big fan of Maniche. She thinks he is a fine looking man. I'm both suprised and delighted I'm not having to watch the football lg show this season. Thanks Tim.

I work quite a lot with the lad who was 'Clem's' cameraman. It earned him a good chunk of his annual income and he was still glad when the BBC lost the contract.

Is it the Portuguese player from 10-15 years ago?

Or maybe he's a Mannish Boy.

(Probably sails straight over the heads of anyone under 45-50.)

I met him briefly a couple of years ago and got the impression he rather fancies himself. 'Clem' that is, not your mate.

It must be really tiresome, having a 'big personality' and having to live up to it everywhere you go. Look at Jimmy Savile.

Kelly Cates is great.

She is. I also think Shearer has improved massively in the last year or so.

I would have to disagree on Shearer - I find him completely wooden and incapable of offering insight. They have started to add some graphics to his 'analysis' (to mimic Sky) so he can identify what space on a pitch looks like. He still trots out the same clichés as the like of Gobby Cabbage.

The better pundits - and there are not many - are able to take it back a step or two and identify how intelligent movement moves players out of position to create that space. Danny Murphy is one of the better ones that is a regular on the BBC.

When there is an international tournament the former (foreign) players are typical more interesting to listen to and usually more eloquent.

The stupid woman on the Football League show does my head in. Why is it that the majority of women on TV to present/discuss sport, haven't got a fucking clue. All they know is Man Utd/Man City/Arsenal/Chelsea and the EPL. Not a fucking clue and irritating. The dopey mare on BBC breakfast (the one who looks like a horse), is also a fucking idiot.

There's a lot of shit male presenters, but the good to bad ratio is better than the women's. Eleanor Oldroyd is about the only decent female sports presenter I can currently think of.

I blame Sky Sports.

Surely the only requirements should be is, 1) not be annoying and 2) have a clue what you're talking about.
Kelly Cates (who others have mentioned)
Jaquie Oatley
Alison Mitchell
Gabby Logan
Clare Balding

To name just five off the top of my head, might want to join us in the 21st century pal.

Kelly Cates is awful (I'm thinking she's the one who did the horrendously-embarrassing-to-listen-to-606 on a Sunday - is that right?). I'll give you the others, just went off on a rant without properly thinking about it.

By 21st century you mean accepting shit presenters. I couldn't care less if they're female or male, so long as they have a fucking clue.

Early runner for most ignorant post of the season there, after all what could the daughter of Kenny Dalglish possibly know about football? I seem to recall you telling us all we were deluded if we thought Villa could beat the might of Liverpool at Wembley.

The highlights programme is abysmal but it has nothing to do with the presenters.

So the daughter of any footballer who's ever lived knows everything about football. That makes sense.

I did think you were deluded to think we'd beat Liverpool, I was clearly wrong, as people are.

Don't get me wrong about Shearer, I'm not saying he's good but he's better than terrible which is what he was!
