Good appointment, I prefer him coming in to the Keane decision last summer anyway.

If the bloke was capable enough to be the Chelsea number two when they were winning the league, I'm sure he's good enough to perform the same role here.

Well this impending appointment answers one question I had last month after the end of the season. Which was did TS have  the right people in the right back room jobs? It is now clear he did not think so and has taken action to rectify the issue.

I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Kept Mortimer out of the England team by playing sideways danger free football, I remember one World Cup he went too, best thing that happened was he got injured/sent off can't remember which, but as soon as he was out of the team England started playing better

'86, I think. When Robson injured his shoulder, too.

And as John says, we were much better without either of them.

especially Robson

I agree with all three of you. The only problem is that the improvement that occured as a result of those two being involved also coincided with he-that-cannot-be-named taking one of their places.

This could actually be one coach too many .
The dugout is going to be as congested as a UB40 stage

With Man U, Rangers and Millwall also on his CV, that's quite a collection of objectionable former employers he has. I wonder if anybody can boast more?

That was a great advert. I've just looked it up on Wikipedia and it only aired ten times.
You forgot arguably the most objectionable of them all. Chelsea.

No, he didn't

He did Richard, he started his career at Chelsea, though he was known as Butch in those distant days.

I never rated him that highly as a player but I do recall him saying something to the extent that the ref should hav been lenient on Hendrie when he was sent off for two yellow cards on his debut at QPR  He seemed genuine when he said it, which is why I recall it.

No he didn't Pat! Look back at the original post by Joe C and you will see he was responding to my post in which I had already mentioned Wilkins being at Chelsea. The 'also' ought to give it away. No-one with any sort of football knowledge at all and of a certain age could forget Butch Wilkins at Chelsea with his already thinning hair...

In which case, humblest apologies for having skim read the first 3 pages a bit too quickly.

Anyway, you can never have too many opportunities to underline how odious Chelsea are.

My abiding memory of Wilkins as a player, other than his negative passing, was when he was playing for England. I think it was away to Saudi Arabia, the ball goes out of play for an England throw in, Wilkins runs over to take it and screams at the ballboy, "Give me that facking ball". My mother was not impressed.

She knew the risks when she decided to be a ballboy.

Happy with this appointment.

So am I.

Hope TSOV's mum is, as well.

And thanks for throwing the ball to our hero, back then; sorry about the language. He's probably more aware of the impact of his comments, these days.

Happy enough. He has an excellent reputation as a coach. I think it also speaks to Sherwoods self confidence, he knows where he needs help. Much better than Lamberts "I will wing it myself" approach.

I remember us losing to Portugal, drawing with Morocco and stuffing Poland in the group. Might have been Morocco.

Sideways is a good film and crab meat can be pretty tasty.
