what have you seen so far though, he hasn't bought anyone yet?
His team selections. That's not the be-all-and-end-all, as he is dealing with the hand he has been dealt.

However if he's decided that Cole is a better option then Gil going on what they've shown for the club so far then it's probably not unreasonable to think that he's going with 'Premier League = good, fancy foreign types = bad".

So maybe you should let him buy the players he wants and then decide. You are quite right in the fact he is having to go with what he has, so going against you own point really

From BBC:

Tim Sherwood has just said:" Some of the boys have been told they will not be here next year and they can go and find other clubs."

The only positive from today then.

Guzan's conceded 8 against Arsenal this season. He'd have let in a few today aswell.
He might have done, he might not have done. He might have dropped a bollock that Given didn't.

But I bet he wouldn't have let a bloke who is 5ft 6 win a header at the edge of our six-yard box.

I'm sorry, but to say that Given should/could have come to meet that cross is ridiculous.
I sort of agree. He's not good enough or commanding enough to come to meet that cross. He hasn't done for his whole career, so today wouldn't be the time for him to start.

The bloke on our bench though would have come for it and would probably have caught it comfortably.

Sounds as though he is as miffed by today as we are.

Some stats;
Arsenal shots 16 (9 on target)

Aston Villa shots 2 (0 on target) - struggling to recall the 2 if I'm honest.

Corners

Arsenal 8

Aston Villa 0

Possession

Arsenal 58% Aston Villa 42%

Fuck me...........................

I think there's a debate to be had, but ultimately Given isn't the root cause of today.

We were awful all over the pitch.

Arsenal are much better than us, but they're much better than lots of teams who manage to make it a lot less easy for them. Like Reading in the semi final, for example.

We offered absolutely nothing. It was embarrassingly one sided. I can live with losing, but being so humiliatingly shit is another thing entirely.

that example does suit your argument though. Today he played Okore over Baker for example. And dropped Gabby and played N'Zogbia in that spot. The thing with Gil is bewildering, there's no doubt about it, and I wonder if we will ever find out. But until he starts signing players and proves to be the second coming of MON, then none of us can know exactly the type of player he will sign.

Right. Mr Brightside here.

In my lifetime supporting Villa we've been in 9 cup finals and won 5 of them. Winning finalists in LC 75, 77, 94, 96 EC 82 losing finalists LC 71, 10 FAC 00, 15.

Better than 50% but sadly the ones that stick out are the abject performances in 00 and today.

Yes, I have seen all of them and to suggest the performance today and 2000 stick out in your mind are not how I feel. I will never forget being in Rotterdam to see Peter Withe winning the European cup, Brian Little at old Trafford, lets get things into perspective

The ones that stick out for me are the ones we won.  I guess that's just me, though.

No not just you, what I meant was the losing ones that stick out, we were fantastic in 71 and robbed in 2010.

That wasn't the point made though, was he at fault for our first three goals?

I've not decided anything, as there is nothing to decide yet. I'm offering an opinion based on nothing more than gut-feeling.

If the topic that is being discussed is "what sort of players is Tim Sherwood going to sign", then I don't think it's unreasonable to comment on it.

Things would be a bit dull is every thread was just people saying "I have no opinion on this subject until I see concrete evidence one way or the other".

If we are really talking about their first, I don't think Superman in goal could have got near that cross, let alone catch it.

I must admit when I saw the first goal I didn't once think Given should've come for that. I was more annoyed Alexis outjumped Richardson for the header and everyone watched the ball and not Walcott.

The third goal was embarassing though, Mertasacker has headed that pretty much in the centre of the goal and Given can't even move, that was the worst one of the opening three.

Abject performance - only Richardson and Westwood come out of it with any credibility.

The ref's performance was just about as bad as ours too...1 or 2 penalties at 3-0 down would have made for a more exciting finish.

...and obviously Lerner was laughing afterwards because he has a signed, irrevocable purchase agreement and knows he won't have to suffer through any more of this shit.

Am i right in thinking Chelsea have surpassed us now in terms of winning major trophies - 21 I think.  And wenger has now equalled Ramsey 's record of 6 cups. Depressing
