The comment about coming for the crosses is but that second goal moves left to right in the air by several yards and is simply unstoppable.
It is for a goalkeeper who is under 6ft and isn't quick enough/good enough to adjust his footing in time.

I'm sorry, but it is right in the centre of the goal. If the keeper is positioned correctly then a ball that goes in where that goal is scored is perfectly stoppable from that range.

What's worrying is that it looks like the last two games of the season were not an isolated blip.  Something has gone wrong if you can't bother to turn up today.

Exactly.  What on earth were they thinking?

How can you not give a 100% shift in a Wembley Cup Final, with the eyes of the world upon you?  How can it not be a special occasion, when you consider the last time your club lifted a major trophy was in 1996?

Maybe the games against Southampton and Burnley should have been a warning.  But I can't believe how abject the team were today and they did not put the effort in that was expected.

I think our biggest problem is that Arsenal are considerably better than us at football.

There were other things. The midfield and back four appeared to have different defensive strategies first half, and we need to stop just humping it to Benteke instead of a plan (we might not have that choice next season, though). Also, that referee should be relieved he didn't need to do anything crucial, because if he didn't think that was a foul on Grealish then I'd like to know what he thought it was.

Overall, however, the main issue - us being worse than them at football - was pretty much insurmountable. That's life. Well done for keeping us in the league, Tim - there's always next year.

I've been drinking claret all evening and now I've got the blues. Thank you Aston Villa.

That's worse than 2000 for me.

Arsenal were very good but fuck me, we were an absolute embarrassment.

In 2000 we were horribly defensive. Today we were horrible in every sense.

We looked very much like we finished 17th because we deserved to finish there. Sorry, but that was humiliating. To not manage a shot on target is shocking.

It is pretty clear that the Sherwood effect was the usual new manager bounce combined with adventurous hung ho attack. We looked poor against Burnley, abysmal at Southampton and today was just embarrassing.

We have a huge amount to do this summer. If there is one thing we can take from today it is that reminder.

I thought the only Villa player who wasn't awful today was Richardson, which says it all, really.

He shouldn't have allowed that goal. Terrible positioning even if the ball moved in the air. On the flip side he pulled off a few very good saves but overall he wasn't good enough today.

I've been to two FA Cup finals now and I haven't seen us have a shot yet.

I know how Leeds must have felt that in 1996 now. It was that bad.

That's spot on.

TS has already said that there are too many players with a losers attitude in the squad and he intends to bring some in who are "winners". Who these are will be interesting.

Personally 2000 was worse because I was there.  Today I watched the game at a local cricket club to avoid the plastic Arse fans, my heart said Villa but my head said Arsenal all day long, the manner of the defeat is hard to take however, their 4th was a mile offside, 3-0 was a fair result, we were poor across the park, we completely failed in every department.  Given was immense and stopped us being humiliated.  Not sure what the plan was Tim but whatever it was it was shite.

From BBC:

Tim Sherwood has just said:" Some of the boys have been told they will not be here next year and they can go and find other clubs."

Unacceptable marking for the third goal by Benteke and fourth by Bacuna. Do not understand the substitutions of Richardson (maybe fatique) and Westwood, who was good I thought. Needless early yellow cards for Cleverley and Delph, they had to be careful after that. Benteke had a bad day, but not much service. It could of course had been a less embarassing result if the referee had given us a penalty. Arsenal, though, are class and it is depressing that the gap between the top clubs and the rest is so huge.

Got angry watching Lerner having a laugh few seconds after the final whistle.

And annoyed that we now wont play for three months. The summer transfers will be interesting, and of course to see if we get a new owner. Lerner (despite the above) seems like a likeable guy, and by his own admission, should have handed over responsibility sooner. Hope he finds a worthy new owner and not a Cardiff type of owner.

N'Zogbia
Richardson (despite going ok today)
Hutton
Gabby
Weizmann
Cole
Senderos
Given

I'd shift that lot straight away.
