Miserable beggar. The pubs near the grounds will still sell beer, trains will still run (the Football Specials are no more), away games will still be a laugh and some 2nd division games might just be affordable. We might even enjoy ourselves if we only let ourselves...
Quote from: Toronto Villa on December 08, 2015, 01:45:22 PMThe only benefit I see in relegation is that it I would hope it will allow the club to stop struggling and get back to winning. Keep the squad together as best as possible (Newcastle managed it), critically keep the manager and his coaches and provide him with sufficient financial resources and we will come straight back up. I'm tired of scrambling around at the arse end of the table year after year, changing managers every other season. I'd rather we got it right in the PL off course but we need to get back acting with a long term plan for success, and if that involves relegation to reach it then so be it.This is how I feel. We've been in and around the bottom area for too long !

We've been in and around the bottom area for too long !Just because Newcastle managed it doesn't mean we would - it took us 8 (long) years to come back in 1967 and without wishing to run down the promotion winning team of 1988, it's worth remembering we merely pipped Middlesboro on "goals scored".
Lowering expectations to such an extent that we would take a step out of the top division for a season or two (or three or four...) is seriously selling Aston Villa short. That the last five seasons has us thinking this way is a tribute the way we've been run in that time. We've had over 100 years as a top flight club. I am proud of our status as one of the only clubs to have not dropped out of the Premier League - and I don't want that little club becoming all the more exclusive at our expense. Relegation is a shitty experience and I'd urge everyone to keep strong and ignore the Sirens' call.
