Miserable beggar. The pubs near the grounds will still sell beer, trains will still run (the Football Specials are no more), away games will still be a laugh and some 2nd division games might just be affordable. We might even enjoy ourselves if we only let ourselves...

You say that, but we'd be category AA for every game we played, as the home teams could guarantee that we'd sell out their poxy away end.

We wouldn't even be the most expensive season ticket down there.

I just looked at sha away ticket prices for upcoming games, £32 Boro, £29 Derby, £36 Sheff Weds, Preston £24. I hope my laptop didn't get a virus visiting their poxy site.

We could do a Wolves. Shit season followed by another and end up 2 divs down. Just trying to balance it up as some think we will piss the league.

The only benefit I see in relegation is that it I would hope it will allow the club to stop struggling and get back to winning. Keep the squad together as best as possible (Newcastle managed it), critically keep the manager and his coaches and provide him with sufficient financial resources and we will come straight back up. I'm tired of scrambling around at the arse end of the table year after year, changing managers every other season. I'd rather we got it right in the PL off course but we need to get back acting with a long term plan for success, and if that involves relegation to reach it then so be it.

This is how I feel. We've been in and around the bottom area for too long !

Just because Newcastle managed it doesn't mean we would - it took us 8 (long) years to come back in 1967 and without wishing to run down the promotion winning team of 1988, it's worth remembering we merely pipped Middlesboro on "goals scored".

There are no guarantees so let's get that out of the way. However you decided to present examples of when we went down, yet dismissed Newcastle or any number of sides every bit as horrible or dysfunctional that have come back up quickly. I realize things could be better behind the scenes at Villa but Newcastle are a perfect example that it doesn't need to be perfect for it not to impact the playing objectives. And compared to Newcastle we are a well oiled machine not the incompetent buffoons we often appear to depict.

Lowering expectations to such an extent that we would take a step out of the top division for a season or two (or three or four...) is seriously selling Aston Villa short. That the last five seasons has us thinking this way is a tribute the way we've been run in that time.  We've had over 100 years as a top flight club.  I am proud of our status as one of the only clubs to have not dropped out of the Premier League - and I don't want that little club becoming all the more exclusive at our expense.

Relegation is a shitty experience and I'd urge everyone to keep strong and ignore the Sirens' call.

I've been a bit disappointed with the quality of the peanut butter on my breakfast recently. However, I am not even slightly tempted to think shit on toast would be more fun.

Dont get all this hope that we would fare any better in the Championship than in the premier league ... we are toxic ... team is fucked confidence wise and who would realisticly want to buy any of our lot at the moment.

So we would be left with what we have ... confidence further knocked by a relegation on high wages so no new signings.

Also when did we last easily skittle any of the lower league sides in cup competitions how many times have we been embarrassed in recent years ??

I doubt there is much difference between bottom 3rd of prem and top 3rd of championship so returning at first attempt would not be as easy as some think and a second season in the championship would be a disaster.

If we go down
We just have to get on with it, nothing else we can do
