If there's an obligation to buy, with no get outs, that's fair enough.I would rather have given him a chance at this level, but if the manager doesn't rate him then it's better to let him go while we still get some cash, than it is to keep sending him on perpetual loans while his value dwindles.
I think he can play as out and out winger, indeed that's where I remember him playing against Bournemouth. Bruce doesn't seem to like wingers though, the boring twat.

Bruce doesn't seem to like wingers though, the boring twat.I can't remember which came first, but around that time he came on against Liverpool and played against Bournemouth and looked good in both appearances. I have to disagree about him being a wide player because I don't think he is quick enough and doesn't defend well. In fact, I remember one of the first few games of Sherwood's time here (might have been against Stoke) where he was playing wide and didn't track back. Sherwood went barmy on the touchline and Gil was soon off, hardly to be seen again.

We haven't signed him yet.I hope you're right, but I see no point in us signing a wing back if we don't play with wing backs.
