I agree but holding a press conference that you have to cancel makes you look silly without the need to and adds to the image of complete chaos

Same here, I don't get the press conference to announce signing an unestablished player who virtually no one has heard of. If they want to give the fans a boost sack that fucking clown Lambert and we will all be dancing in the streets.

Quote
Gil has been quoted by Spanish newspaper Marca as saying "I'm going with a thorn. The Mestalla has not seen the real Carles Gil. For one or other circumstances I could not prove everything I wanted here, but I've been at Valencia since age five, it's the club of my life and I want to thank everyone who has helped me and the fans for the support they have given me. I hope it is a goodbye for now and then we'll soon meet again."

Asked if it was his dream to return to Valencia, Gil said "Life is very long and many things happen. I hope that we can see in the future."

Whilst Gil may be sad, he's well aware of the opportunity being handed to him by Aston Villa and is keen to prove himself a good signing "It's a very important opportunity, because they are a very strong team who counted on me, an important club in England. I'm raring to go there and do well."

Sounds like the trasnfer will happen, just the size of the agent's bung requires a bit more faffing around with. I cannot see a deal being scuppered because of this, the agent will be paid, its just a question of how much and when. If Lambert wants him to start on Saturday then we will get it done in the next 24/48 hours.

I can't help but read his name as Careless Gil.  Hope it's not the case as we have enough of that variety as it is.

I can't help but thinking he's asked Sanchez if he knows any decent players!

Paul Lambert has declared that new signing Carles Gil will help to "add that creative spark that we have been lacking" after the Spanish U21 international completed his move from Valencia.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who can operate on either flank or behind a striker, signed a four-and-a-half year deal to June 2019 subject to international clearance.

Gil is a product of the youth system at Valencia, his home city, and made his senior debut for their B team in 2009 as a 17-year-old.

He was loaned to Valencian neighbours Elche for two seasons, helping them secure promotion to La Liga in 2012-13 and then playing a key role alongside his new Villa team-mate Carlos Sanchez as they retained their status in the top-flight for the first time in more than 40 years in 2013-14.

"We've been on the lookout for a creative player and he will certainly bring that extra element to the side," said manager Lambert.

"He's only 22 years of age but he will come here and give us something I don't think we have at the moment. He can play either role, coming in off the sides or playing in behind as well.

"He can create chances and get those chances put away. He has a lot to offer and I know we can get the best out of him."

Gil also expressed his excitement at joining the club and confirmed his desire to make his mark in the Premier League.

"Once I knew that this club was interested in me I wanted to join.

"I am really looking forward to playing here and showing the fans what I can do.

"I can play on either side or in the middle of midfield and I like playing as part of the team, making things happen for my teammates.

"This is a very historic club in England, a very important club in the Premier League, and I am looking forward to playing for such a great club in a league that is the top league in the world."

Finally a play-maker, though not really a goal scorer. But one compliments the other.

Welcome aboard. Hope you can produce miracles or at least create some chances. Hopefully it spells the end of Nzogbia in the shirt.
