On thread: It would be good to see us set up to get three points and play with some sense of purpose...not try to soak up/escape pressure and rely on Gabby's mood to provide anything resembling a threat on their goal.

Evertheoptimist, at least a point!

Think we need a battling performance like that of Stoke or Liverpool to get a result here.  Think I would go with Gabby and Weinmann as a front two here.

Does anyone know if this is game is on the radio?  With West Ham doing so well, and us badly needing points thought it might be one of interest.

Think it might be live on Absolute Radio.

Okay forgot they did live games.  Might give it a listen just for a laugh if nothing else.

I think we will win tomorrow. They're in good form, but they're still a mid-table side at best.

I think we will see a return of a spot of pressing, with Sanchez in particular pressing Downing, hopefully through some sort of Victorian mangle, as that is the sort of pressing that little weasel deserves.

Andi will be shunted out wide, but I think defensively he will do a job and it will be Charlie playing off Gabby. Senderos to make us a lot more solid at the back.

1-2 Villa.

Why do football clubs feel the need to mark the occasion when we pay our respects on the 11th and Remembrance Sunday anyway? If a match falls on either day fair enough, but if it doesn't then we should just play the game. The cynic in me just thinks it's a PR style ticking of the box stunt.

Welcome to stooge no.1.

Bloody hell SH, have you EVER been referred to as a Woodhall stooge before?

Dennis, I am not going to join in this argument, but I would just point out that Saunders Heroes is one of the very last people on H and V to whom you could make this accusation. Had you been on H and V for longer, you would know this for a fact.

west ham are shit, but that really dont matter, as we score around 0.5 goals every two games and we scored against spurs therfore it will be aston villa 0 so if west ham get a sniff gaurantee Downing will be having a few shots, that makes 7 premier league games zero points. Is randolf shagging paul, he's certainly fucking us up.

I agree and I am approximately there 15 mins before kick off.

just to defend some of the fans that came that day, it is a nightmare to get into West Ham, there was no announcement about the minutes silence and their Stewards hardly said a word about it.

The Doc

Similar things happened last week. It's downright daft to be holding Remembrance silences on November 1st.

You could have heard a pin drop in Villa Park. The silence was impeccably observed. It was the Club's last chance to do this before 11th November and most people in the ground applauded those taking part as they left the pitch area.

That's all well and good but it's a modern development that has no historical background.

Some of us like to pay our respects.

Its also noted that this year is specifically poignant with 100 years anniversary. I heard Villa gave some people -those involved with armed forces free admission as part of premier league initative and own clubs support. Similarly all premier league clubs this weekend are giving tickets for troops. I understand both sides of this discussion .

There's nothing to suggest anyone even remotely disagrees with free tickets for soldiers, not even a suggestion of it.

That's a totally different thing, people are talking specifically about the silence / ceremony so far off the actual date.

The fact Dennis has got his knickers in a twist and equated suggesting that "why do it on a date which isn't even remembrance sunday" with "I don't respect our troops" is not only a half-baked, misinterpreted bit of self righteous nonsense, but also a bit depressing.

What kind of person suggests people don't like to pay their respects for daring to argue the above?

What does Dennis know about any of us, what losses our families have been through while serving their country? I'll answer that. Nothing. Which makes it a bit depressing to see him mounting his high horse.

Sorry that I messed up my quote.
Why are you totally obnoxious?

Coming from you, that's quite something.

Anyway, it's been fun. Maybe they'll let you back at TBAR if you apologise enough? They look like they could use all the members they can get.

If Lambert wants to continue with his negative philosophy, can we at least go the whole hog and have one big man up top, park the bus and launch the ball forward at every chance.
Be bloody dirty at the same time.

Its got to be better than... just being shite.

West Ham 0 Villa 3.  Delph to come on as an 85th minute sub in a sling and score a hat trick, before signing a new contract in front of the away end with his good arm.

His first two seasons we were always right at the top, or near the top, of the long ball league table. This season we're comfortably bottom half, so in one respect we at least appear to be trying to keep it on the deck a bit more, though undoubtedly, Benteke missing half the season so far would skew the stats, but ironically I think we look even less effective not being quite as direct.

I'd stick Bent or Andi up alongside Benteke (when he's back) and then try and little and large it. At the very least as a last 30 minutes sort of option.

That said, a return of a 4-2-4 which we saw against Bradford would be horrible.

I'd actually start Bent tomorrow. As a target man he'd still be effective and wins the ball in the air.

I'd also put cleverley wide and go for a 4-4-2.

Jesus, Des, how about a bit of positive thinking?

He's going to sign it with his bad arm. That's how much he wants to sign it. And loves the Villa.

Merson says that its a banker home win. That alone makes me convinced we will turn them over.

Following Sporting Memories shock victory at the Football Business Awards i'm going for another shock win. 1-0 to Villa, with a deflected shot from Westwood in 14th minute. West Ham 17 shots (14 on target) Villa 3 (1 deflected on target).
