I agree that the guy is a knob an all, but a year in jail sounds a bit steep for punching a horse.  Surely being from Newcastle is punishment enough?

It is a really dangerous thing to do. The horse could have bolted-despite its training. In a crowd someone could easily get badly injured or even killed. At least he gets to wear stripes for a year :)

Besides being dangerous, it's just fucking wrong.

Why in the name of God would you want to punch a harmless beast? It's not like he's actively signed up for the Police force is it?
