Let's put the biggest GradeA Arrogant Twunt if football in charge of the ultimate club who are like Chavs who won the lottery to the sword next week.

Let's send them back down the M6/M40 with nothing from Villa Park except a schooling.

We are Aston Villa and we rise again!!!

we fully deserve our Premier league status largely down to Paul Lamberts evident hard work and belief in his players, his vision is one we must pursue, the last club to take such a risk was Manchester United...

Not really. that united team of "kids" still had:
Schmichael Irwin, Pallister, Bruce, Paul Parker, Sharpe, Mcclair, Keane Cantona...
Giggs had three seasons under his belt too.
Also they had the money to buy themselves out of trouble if it didn't work.

Ok i'm being ridiculous, but we have Guzan, Lowton, Bennett, Baker, Westwood, Weimann and Benteke, and for United it did work.  also we are more of attractive club to potential buyers than most in the bottom 12 because everything is in place and we have the stadium and training facilities to match so who says the money won't be there in the next 5 years?

I was trying to say, that even when they took a chance on their youth they still had a squad full of experience.

Bloody hell, it is not doom. Doom would be saying we are shit, and moaning about the team, manager, tea lady etc.

The team I could not be more proud of, they have come of age brilliantly. I even feel for Bennett tonight, who I think was very astutely targeted to get sent off by Hughton, I really do.

But in my opinion, and that is all it is, my opinion, due to the Wigan result, we are still in big trouble do the way the fixtures fall. If they win in the week, there is a very good chance on the last day they will have the opportunity to beat us and finish above us. That could be enough to relegate us still.

Well if we get something against Chelsea and they lose by a few at Arsenal then they'll have to beat us by more than 1 goal wouldn't they?

Some of the above posts are for other 'relegation themed threads' can i remind people this is post match debate. What i would like to say is how encouraging and ultimately satisfying it was for the victory. As gabby on this occasion proved the hero and believe the current attackers we have allow for at least one of them to prove a worthy goal scoring threat. By all accounts Benteke was not at his most effective and also didn't score I can't begrudge him as hes   been super. Today was Gabbys day, sweeping up to the plate in most effective and electrifiing of ways most notably second half. Inspired. I also would like to comment on Joe Bennett. I felt he was pretty poor today and could have cost us points, and more goals . he was  lucky to stay on the field and feel a replacement shud be signed in summer as he is not o defensive standard.
All in all a fantastic performance and character to get the 3points and think deservedly so. I have said norwich are falling and 28/1 was the call. I think they showed little creativity and imagination offensive wise and as they dint have quality service or strikers they could not out score a team of villa attacking prowess. Up the villa and up the table we go!!

I am SO SO glad today i am one of the people who has stuck with Lambert from the very off, yes tactically at times he has had a few mares and made the wrong substitutions, however overall the bravery in his decisions last summer deserve so much credit alone. Not only has PL brought our supporters back down to earth and backing THE TEAM again, He has got us playing some of the best football we have seen in years, especially away from home.  The amount of kicks in the bollocks we've had this season yet PL has still managed to rally the players. 'We'll be fine' he whispered after every game in that grim Xmas period and after N'castle at home.. it may sound pretty lame but actually we will be fine, and we fully deserve our Premier league status largely down to Paul Lamberts evident hard work and belief in his players, his vision is one we must pursue, the last club to take such a risk was Manchester United...

By the way, our support this season has been the best i have witnessed in years, you get a great sense of rapport between the team/management and the fans which is really positive and creates a good vibe which opposition clubs can see. UTV, Enjoy a beer tonight.

Stop torturing yourself ozzjim. You are looking at a very narrow angle as if we are the only scenario other than Wigan. I can see both us and Wigan tapping a draw on May 19. If Norwich do not beat WBA next week they are down and now there are 5 teams below us. They will NOT all  go above us  come  6PM on the final day.

MOTD order: 1.WBA v Wigan, 2. Norwich v Aston Villa, 3. Fulham v Reading, 4. Spurs v Tottenham, 5. QPR v Arsenal, 6. West Ham v Newcastle, 7. Swansea v Man City

Match 4 must be the most tightly contested game of all time, at least they both have home advantage due to the groundsharing

Oh My God - Gabby welcome to the pantheon of Aston Villa Greats !

Poor first half, Holt was bullying our back four. Thought the ref evened it out by brainless Bennett staying on. At 1-0 I was waiting for the inevitable equaliser as a doss house has more chance of a clean sheet. When it came in that period of time which included Wigan's 3rd I was surrounded by Noses. Their glee was nauseating and I was starting to feel despondent.

Kept praying.

"Westwood picks it up, oh what a great ball in for agbonlahor, oh it must be! And it is ! Gabby Gabby Agbonlahoooooooooooor"

In my opinion one of the most important goals scored in recent Villa history. We're not mathematically safe but heck there are 4 teams below us and I don't fancy Wigan beating us.

I'm absolutely delighted this evening and bought a bottle of Whiskey to celebrate !!!!

As for Chelski next week, the most despicable bunch of w*****rs ever to take the field. Their defeat of us was one the worst moments as a Villa fan. I hope we take them apart 5-0 before their cup final.

Well done lads, proud to be a Villan !

Getting to 40 points is a landmark but Wigan winning takes the shine off somewhat. We have the hardest run in of all the clubs I feel but one more point should do it.

post of the year!

Reminds me of the 3rd division late 60's - 'Huge crowds followed Villa around the country as players and fans united in a common goal to get Villa back into the big time.'  I think I 've paraphrased it, Gerry Sinstadt said it.  Anyone remember it?

You're concentrating too much on Wigan, Newcastle have to play QPR away and Arsenal at home, Sunderland have to play Southampton, at least one of them will drop points there, Norwich have got The Baggies and then away at Man City.

The big plus for us today has been the number of teams now sitting below us, I can see at least one of them not getting another win.
