Hi All,
I have been reading this site for years but I have rarely been inclined to write. The recent trials and tribulations have cajoled me to dig deep and rejoin my brothers during one of our darkest hours. Posted to Cyprus I have had to suffer from afar but BFBS and local bars have meant that I have seen the majority of our games  :-\.
I have two beautiful girls aged one and four. I swear I nearly ruined their Christmas after watching the Chelsea, Spurs and Bradford games. They nervously edged around me as I switched from anger, outrage and dispair - poor souls. I fear even at their tender age it may be a case of Pavlov's dogs, always associating Villa with negativity - flip me, I know I Do! When I get posted home I dare say I may drag the innocents along with me even though I love them dearly. UTV (Always darkest before the dawn).

I know what you mean, Tayls, my two are the same age as yours. I've taken the more phlegmatic route though. For example, I was following the Chelsea game on the BBC website from afar, while we had guests in the front room with us at the time. When I saw the score tick over to 4-0 I just turned the laptop off, without a word. Everyone was oblivious to it. I didn't know the final score until about lunchtime of the following day. As a result, our kid is still unaware of the current state of things. It's a bit like Father Christmas. He'll find out for himself soon enough!

Christ on a stick buddy. The level of control you must have displayed would put a bomb disposal expert to shame. Talking of bombs, I would head down to your Doctor and have your underlying stress levels monitored  :) Some of the stories have been heart-warming though. My first game at VP was against Everton. I remember Peter Withe heading against the crossbar from about 80yds. Mostly I spent the match staring in awe at the old Holte. What a sight that was.

I agree that we shouldn't force our preferences onto our kids but, thankfully my son and daughter are both staunch Villa.  I am blessed to have six grandchildren (five boys and one girl) three here in Ireland and three in Wolverhampton and if I were still living at home I would make sure that any of them that wanted to, would have the opportunity to sample the atmosphere that only Villa Park can generate; and I have every confidence that my kids will do their best to keep the tradition going.  At the moment only the eldest (eight) has experienced matchday.  Whatever their persuation they will be supported in their choices and the only thing I ask in return is that they realise and respect just exactly what Aston Villa means to Grandad.

Just picked my lad up from his football practice after school - he has been close to tears all day - after being teased all day by what felt like the whole school .

He was angry , frustrated and most of all - heart broken.

These kids have never seen their teams play once - Fin is 9 , a season ticket holder from birth and has been to the away games of west ham, Fulham, man city and Bradford alone this season .

He got into trouble with his teacher today because his work was unusually sloppy - as he couldn't concentrate.

That's how embarrassing , inept and gutless performances affect the fans - the players wouldn't give a toss though.

If if wasn't for my son I doubt I would go to a match, he told me he's really happy and proud to support Villa but they are rubbish and they are going down. I suspect he's correct.

The problem over here is that the so called IOM Premier League is really on a par with pub football, played on little more than school pitches, so it's not like I could even get the kids interested in watching a decent lower division side.

If my two support another team then they are out of the door! Actually I'll probably waiver if it is Brentford but not for any other of the bloody West London teams. Even Fulham.

I truly hope that the children of anyone who comes out with such complete bollocks as "If my kids dare to support anyone other than Villa then they are out of the door!" become utter little shits and decide to support West Brom or Small Heath just to annoy you.
Obviously most people who say this sort of bullshit don't actually mean it, and anyone that does has lost all sense of perspective and should never be allowed to have kids in the first place.

Oh for God's sake. It was a flippant remark.
"Should never be allowed to have kids in the first place." Are you for real?

Did you miss the bit where I said "Obviously most people who say this bullshit don't actually mean it"?

And how come you are allowed to make flippant remarks which appear to make it look like you've lost all sense of perspective but I'm not?

Ironic that.

My daughters now 18, she's been going to watch the Villa with me since she was 7, she was close to tears leaving Valley Parade, and again on tuesday night. She'll never give up on them and she'd kill me if I went without her.

My 4 kids aged from 33 to 16 have all been brought up to be Villa supporters in the same way that I was i.e. This is what you are by birth for better or worse and there's nothing you can do to change it, end of story. Accept the fact that there will be highs and deep lows like the rest of your life and enjoy the highs whilst remaining proud to support the club that represents where you come from during the lows

Pobably because my flippant remarks weren't an unprovoked personal attack. Plenty of other flippant/"bullshit" remarks on here and the other games thread for you to comment on.

Ha ha! Mate, I've got two young kids, my underlying stress levels must be through the roof by default! As I'm sure you can well appreciate!

To be fair, I manage to remain calm, to a degree, only if I watch a result come in in text format. A bit like following the goals going in on teletext in the past. If I'm actually watching the match it's a completely different matter and perspective tends to go out the window. It's been years since I had a season ticket, but when I think about the poor souls who are going down there week in, week out at the moment...well, my heart goes out to them. It must be really hard work at the moment and I imagine many a weekend has been ruined of late.

I'd love my little one to be a Villan when he/she is born, however, he's with a wide who is an ardent Blade and living a couple of miles from Bramall Lane means I'm going to lose. Which is fine.
