A free role on the bench.
Coutinho arriving at melwood - another class player missed.
I doubt we was ever in the running. Too expensive. He probably has the quality, but is he what we needed?

Correct, another pint sized midfielder is hardly what we need at the moment!

I've said this a few times but Bannan needs a free role. He'd look a much better player for it.

Westwood alongside a new DC and Bannan pushed further forward would be fine with me.

My sole contribution to this thread.  We will make one signing, Bridcutt from Brighton, young, big'ish a defensive midfielder and probably will not cost much.

No inside knowledge just a feeling in my bones.

Maybe play him central in the 3 of a 4-2-3-1, with Zog wide right and Weimann in the role Gabby's been anonymous in recently, cutting in from wide left. He also works ball-buggeringly hard, so would provide decent support to whichever of our terrible, terrible left-backs is playing.

I'm not sure how anyone can claim Coutinho is a class player yet, he might be but who knows. Tim Vickery said he's pretty lazy, not commited and would probably struggle in England.

Replace 'role' with 'transfer' Clampy and i'd agree.

He would fit in nicely here then.

I'd scrap 3 in midfield altogether and have Bent playing. Play more like Man Utd than Barcelona. Carrick and Scholes / Anderson still manage to hold things together. I think a Diame and Westwood partnership would be equally effective in our much worse side. Would certainly create more space for N'Zogbia / Benteke to drift between the defence and midfield to hold the ball up.

Wouldn't Westwood shit the place up? ::)

He's 5'7" and is of a similar build to Delph.  Looks a decent player though.

If we are to go for a cheap lower-league midfielder, then it may as well be Trotter. Just for his physical presence if nothing else. Wasn't great against us but our team just bounced off him whenever he had the ball.
