@thegoalzone: Villa boss Paul Lambert says he has a couple of players in mind to sign but it will depend on finance

I thought the finance was sorted out during randys meeting with him at new year ?

THat's encouraging, he's not going to come out and say we have a load of money is he. I suspect he does have the finance.
The finance for what and who though ?

For the players he's looking at.
Nah ! Do we have any ideas on who he is looking at or is it all top secret again ?

We could tell you, but then we'd have to kill you  ;)
Not a problem :o dont care as long as we do not go down and we sign some quality players. The gun is loaded, all you have to do is pull the trigger after you tell me who we are after ;)

If you knew the targets, you may want to top yourself!!

In truth, none of us know what the budget is. £10m is a figure that's been thrown in the air. It may be right but we'll have to see.

Lerner can now really go fuck himself. I've had enough of this bullshit. They are totally preparing for us to go down. If that is the case (which it seems highly likely) then I'm not ploughing anymore money into the club this year what so ever.
I will just catch the games on the net and save myself a fortune.
Its beyond a joke now and what hurts the most is it seems to us all that RL really does not care. If he did we would be bringing in the x4 players we are desperate for, just to give us a chance to stay up!

I think a lot of kidology goes on during transfer windows as the last thing you want a selling club you may be talking to hearing is we've got money to spend!  We spent £25m in the summer, which is a decent amount, so based on that I'm willing to wait and see what happens money wise before I blast Randy for not supporting his manager.

Unless he has lost faith in the current manager ?

Quote
The Villa boss admitted that he will try to make “one or two” signings before the transfer window but indicated he will be forced to operate within tight budget specified by owner Randy Lerner.

Lambert said: “I understand the finances of it. The club cannot go into major debt. It’s got to watch itself. It’s something I will meet head on.

“ I have spoken to him. There are one or two lads there that we will try to get. A lot is dictated by finance. We need a bit of strength in the middle of the pitch.

“But prices in January can be so inflated that you can pay through the nose for someone and it’s a guy you maybe don’t want at the club.

"We have to build this club and not let it go back to what has happened before.”

IMO we do have the money, Randy just doesn't want to invest. He needs to sell up asap otherwise he won't get many offers for a Championship team.

Well we know randy has the money, but it seems to me he's not going to give lambert it to spend.
I really do think lambert will be gone if we lose tomorrow , and if he does have a new man in place he may be one he gives some money to instead.

I think Lerner is stalling on him.

Judging by those quotes in the article I disagree. I actually think Lerner would stick with him even if we were relegated as all the indictions even when they were searching for a manager was that they wanted someone long term and someone prepared to deal with the constraints of the job. For me that's encouraging as they're clearly not looking for a quick fix which will get us no where in the long run. Whether that means us being relegated which is obviously now a real possibilty we'll see I suppose. It definitely seems as mentioned previously that they're preparing for the worst case scenario.

Not really relevant to the point on Randy's spending, as even if he did pull the plug on Lambert the new guy would have the same issues and need the same reinforcements.

And just for the record, I don't think he has lost faith in him.

I don't see why he would risk relegation and the loss of tens of millions for the sake of just maybe a few extra million now which may save all those tens of millions?

He backed houllier when he needed it.

Regarding losing faith I guess if we lose badly tomorrow we will find out one way or the other - I hope we win and can get the players in we need , but if lambert only gets £10m I fear the worst.
I feel sorry for him as he needs backing to turn his around and if he has identified players but can't get them due to finance issues it's going to be hard to survive.

Granted. However I don't think it would be too much for PL to say something along the lines of
"I know we do need some fresh faces and I know the areas of concern"
His comments instead just sound like they havnt even really gone past an initial 'chat' about a couple of people.

I would rather we get people in before the 1st having said very little than to make a number of encouraging quotes which ultimately doesn't result in the arrival of anyone.

It's not a money issue up to a point(obviously you need to spend some) it's identifying the correct player. For example spending 3.5 million Euros on Sissoko would cost less than say £8 millon on James McCarthy. But I know which would be the better deal.

I think the financial situation must have changed since Houllier. Regarding the lack of signings, another issue that seems to keep cropping up is the fact that Lambert doesn't just want talented players, they need to have the right attitude and personality to fit in, which would also probably hinder signings he wants in January as our target list is probably quite specific. Maybe the right guys are just not available at this point in the window?

I think what has happened is RL and PL had a chat a few weeks ago with Lambert saying I want the lad from Crewe and the lad from Charlton probably gonna cost us 4 million tops , which Randy agreed . THEN!!!!

Lambert did not expect the results to be as bad as they are , he is under pressure and now knows he needs top quality NOW!!! with experience and probably gone to Randy with now a bigger budget and Randy has replied ' get the fuck out brother , I thought we talked about to get costs down'
