Of all the concerned opinion I have seen over the past few months, the idea that we're being deliberately prepared for relegation takes top spot in the complete and utter bollocks awards.

Agree, Lerner outlined his blueprint for us to be relegated in August 2010. So far, it's all going to plan and should eventually come to fruition in May 2013.

The bottom line is we're in a dogfight with Sunderland, Newcastle, Southampton, Wigan, Reading and QPR. Whatever the rights and wrongs of higher fees in January, risks with wages etc, if we get outfought in the transfer market by these clubs we will be disadvantaged in the second half of the season. Realistically we will also be competing for the same pot of available players. Not signing someone that would improve the team for the sake of an extra 10K a week or a £250k agents fee is a dangerous game.

Imagine if Wenger had decided not to sign Arshavin a few years back? He wasn't a great signing in the long term but he gave them a lift and pushed them on to overtake us comfortably. It was a difficult deal, certainly a 'panic buy' but the Champions League revenue more than paid them back. We need to make strategic improvements to the squad, I think Lambert has an eye for a good player, we need Lerner to support that and for them to hold their nerve in negotiations. Fingers crossed...
