@patmurphybbc: Richard Dunne hopes to be training with @AVFCOfficial 1st team next week. The pairing with Ron Vlaar can't come soon enough if Dunne gets fit

@patmurphybbc: Darren Bent has medial ligament injury after colliding with Bradford's keeper.Could be out for at least 10 days, missing return v Bradford

Seems strange conflict in quotes with Tom Ross tweeting dunne is still weeks away and murphy saying training next week, maybe one of them didn't understand what lambert said ?

Well we are desperate for experience in defence. So Vlaar and Dunne would be a relief.

I think it would be madness to let Dunne go this window unless an experienced replacement is found but then I'd still be inclined to keep him until his contract expires in the summer. Couped to Vlaar back that would at least tighten up the defence, provide us with options and also give us the opportunity for Clark to cover the growing concern at left back should the need arise.

Dunne hasn't been great since his 1st season under MON.

He'd get in the team at the moment surely. The problem is his never-ending injury.

Milk turns faster, I really don't think he has anything to offer us

@MatKendrick: Vlaar possibly back, Westwood back, Bent out, Herd out, Albrighton out, Dunne out, Given out, Gardner out #avfc #haveimissedanyoneout

Seems given injured as well now then ?
I wonder If Vlaar will play tomorrow , we threw three straight back in last weekend.

I posted a link somewhere to news that Dunne had had a third op on his groin on 15th December and would be fit in 6 weeks or so, so the Murphy quote ties in with that time scale. Time will tell I guess

If he's fit, then I hope he does we need him back. Good to hear Westwood is back.

Unless lambert said weeks away and murphy misunderstood him , either that or lambert said a week away and Tom Ross misunderstood? Maybe we need an interpreter there .

It seems strange to have put so much money into Dunne's rehab if we are just going to let him go in this window, especially as we are crying out for a bit of leadership and experience.  I think he'll be with us until the summer then he'll be off to burger camp with NY.

Surely the club would be giving him the treatment he need anyway, regardless of his situation. It would be their obligation I would have thought. He's a player that belongs to Aston villa so whether he's off in the summer or not his treatment wouldn't be effected. You can't tell a player to go and sort your own treatment out as you'll be off in the summer. He is still under contract.

Not that I know anything about these things. It's just my thoughts.

Totally understand that point of view, but don't think we would have been battered with a pairing of Dunne/Clark or Dunne/Baker in recent weeks.  You could see Clark and Baker getting pulled all over the place, an experienced man at the back would have been keeping things tight, reading the game better, Clark & Baker's confidence must be at an all time low, which is a shame as both have potential but are in need of a leader at the back, a role I still think Dunne can fill for us until the summer, or help cover pending Vlaar's recovery and injury problems/history.

As much as we need certain players back quickly, rushing them back might be worse for them and us. I would have thought Vlaar will need another month or so to get back up to speed with training etc.

If and a big if Vlaar and Dunne can stay fit until the end of the season, then I think we could afford to loan a centre half, buy a left back and get a couple of midfielders in. We still need at least 3/4 players though.

Tom Ross

@thegoalzone: Villa boss Paul Lambert says he has a couple of players in mind to sign but it will depend on finance

I thought the finance was sorted out during randys meeting with him at new year ?

If we do have a fair chunk in the kitty it would be pretty stupid for Lambert to come out with "I'm after a boatload of players and have a fortune to spend"

Perhaps it's something as simple as one talking about when he'll return to training and one talking about when he'll be playing again?
