That £7M surely had to be bollocks for Bannan?!?!

Who mentioned £7m? If forest are prepared to pay that I'd snatch their hand off.

Fcuk me I would as well. I'd take half of that in fact.

I'd even pop round and cut big ecks lawn for him for the whole summer in thanks.

Where was the figure of £7m reported?

In The Beano!

Close, i think it was The Mirror.

Nothing in the mirror about any fee but a quick search on the forests forums and they seem to be saying a fee of £6m is being bandied about- I'd still snatch their hands off if they are willing to pay that.

Does anyone know much about that man city kid that they want to send out on loan? The young striker. Read on a few gossip sections thats were linked with him. Again not sure if theres much truth in it.

John Guidetti? Didn't he get a shedload of goals on loan somewhere in Holland or Sweden?

O Neill usually leaves it till deadline day but I see your results have improved of late davey, have a great new year in the north east which is  an area close to my heart , and I hope you find work early in the new year , you are a decent bloke davey and a pleasure to have on here !

Thank you for the kind words eastie, all the best to you and the Villa! Will be interesting to see who both clubs bring in and let go, it sounds at the minute like several of the players available in the reports, that both clubs are in for! Still, it's paper talk and speculation at the minute! Keeps the footy crack going if nowt else!  :)

Paul Lambert insists Aston Villa can still sign quality players this month despite their alarming slide.

Villa have endured a disastrous Christmas, going down 8-0 at Chelsea then 4-0 and 3-0 respectively at home to Spurs and Wigan.

It ended Villa’s mini-revival and they have slipped worryingly to 17th – just one point off the drop zone.

Lambert’s young side must now lift themselves for today’s tough trip to Swansea. The Scot is anxious for more new, quality signings like Christian Benteke, who he snapped up in August.

And Lambert is confident of still attracting fresh talent to Villa Park despite their slump.

Lambert said: “It is pretty easy to sell the club with the stature it has – you don’t need to be Einstein to try to sell this club as it is huge.

“I don’t see that is a problem. It is not just Aston Villa that are in a fight, there are a right few others.

“You have to have patience and don’t panic. That is important.

“I think any football manager always has an idea of what they want to try to do, but January is an absolute nightmare of a month.

“People panic and all those things, prices are inflated, people don’t want to sell, so it is a tough one.” Lambert held crunch talks with chief executive Paul Faulkner and Villa owner Randy Lerner at the weekend after the American attended the Wigan game.

After guiding Villa to a League Cup semi-final, he will be given time to turn around the club’s fortunes.

And Lambert is confident he has Lerner’s full support. He added: “The discussions will remain private between myself, the chairman and Paul.

“I have a good relationship with the chairman but football is a results business. I can only work with what I have, and that is the same for any manager, you try to do your job the best you can.”

Villa are a warning of how quickly things can go wrong – but Michael Laudrup knows things can turn for the better just as fast.

Straight from the "What To Say When You Are In Deep Trouble" handbook for managers.

My guess, and it is a guess but based on a deep intuitive understanding of the club born over many years, is that he will sign nobody other than a couple of loans but nothing significant.   He has a lot of what my son Damon taught me to call "displacement activity" to occupy him.   That is, sorting out other things so that the central intractable problem can be kicked into the long grass.  The problems of Makoun, Dunne, Bent, Warnock, N'Zogbia plus the selling of scottish players to TSM at massively inflated prices will fill his month and the lack of leadership, experience and mental strength on the park will remain untackled.
