I think the first player to be signed will be someone we have never heard of......or possibly Robbie Keane who our manager (and the fans)seems to like. If its the former it will be from one of the African countries. Hopefully a well muscled midfielder with a name you cant pronounce.

Or he may surprise us with a German or two.

One of which may be Michael Ballack if he can persuede him to come out of retirement.

No thanks, injury prone and would want too much money

That £7M surely had to be bollocks for Bannan?!?!

Who mentioned £7m? If forest are prepared to pay that I'd snatch their hand off.

Fcuk me I would as well. I'd take half of that in fact.

I'd even pop round and cut big ecks lawn for him for the whole summer in thanks.

Where was the figure of £7m reported?

Barry Bannan would shine in a villa team with better grafters around him. We need to keep him for when the good times return. He could be like a Merson in a few years.

You're right gregnash but injuries and the rapid rate of games is probably preventing any serious training at the moment.

Take Herd for example, he's getting abused, yet I feel few people forget that he's hardly played twenty-odd matches himself and is being asked to play out of position as CB.  Regardless, he always give it everything and certainly never hides.  He's no messi but his spirit and commitment should be recognised and can only be good for the club in the long run.

.

Herd or Clark in midfield alongside Westwood  ahead of a back four would provide much more cover for the defence and then we need a couple of creative midfielders.

Herd  and clark as a defensive midfielder would be ok but neither are good enough centre halves, I much prefer baker alongside Vlaar when all fit.
i totally agree with this Herd is for me typical Aussie sportsman never ever gives up Clark is much better in front of the back four and Vlaar and Baker would be as good a pairing as anything around

If TSM is offering that for Bannan I'd drive him to Nottingham myself, and I actually rate Bannan. Hell, if it's £7million for both Bannan and Hutton I'd still do it.

I'd try and take Tim Cahill on loan and let him do a "Robbie Keane" for us.

If he is half as good as he was for Everton then he will be brilliant for our midfield.

Plenty reports that mon is already in for him.-

Martin O'Neill is ready to ask Tim Cahill to provide Sunderland with a new year boost as he attempts to drag his club up the Premier League table.

Sunderland are in talks with New York Red Bulls over a winter loan move for the 33-year-old Australia international, who scored 68 goals in 278 appearances during his eight seasons at Everton before moving to the United States last summer. He would certainly be welcomed by Sunderland fans after proving something of a thorn in their side over the years.

He scored seven times in 14 outings against Sunderland for the Merseysiders and was also the man who denied them a trip to the 2004 FA Cup final with a semi-final winner for Millwall at Old Trafford.

Cahill has registered just once in 12 MLS appearances for the Red Bulls to date, but O'Neill is keen to increase his options.

No great loss and if true I guess lambert must have another centre half lined up.

If Dunne is close to fitness I'd sooner have him as an option till the end of the season. He is exactly the type of experienced centre half we'd otherwise be trying to sign. He's had a lot more good games than bad for us.

As for Bent, I agree it would be utter madness to sell him now. He's the only established goalscorer we've got in the entire squad - a squad that has scored the fewest goals in the country so far.
