Tranmere, Man Utd, Wednesday, Wimbledon...those goals are over 20 years old now Big Man but we'll never forget them or you. R.I.P Dalian - Holte Ender in the Sky.

I would wear mine too.
However, 1) it is now two or three sizes too small for some reason. 2) Our Léa has adopted it.
I will try and get her to put it on for a pic (not happening, I know).

A tremendous talent, and an entertainer who lit up our lives.

A wonderfully talented footballer who,  like so many,  never really fulfilled his potential on a consistent basis. Some wonderful memories & a sad sad loss. RIP

What a really shit thing to happen. RIP to the scorer of the greatest goal of all time (with apologies to Peter Withe, who I'm sure would understand).

There's an apocryphal story about him going to BFR and asking for a pay rise. BFR said show me you are worth it and I'll get you the money. Dalian replied give me the money and I'll show you I'm worth it.

Waking to the news over here in Oz.
What a shock.
Great memories of that League Cup final win over Manure and that goal v Wimbledon.
Condolences to his family.
RIP Dalian

From the looks of things the police have a few questions to answer on this. Was Dalian's manner threatening as he approached them? Did they taser him after he fell to the ground? If so why?

According reports, tasered three times which seems excessive. Not exactly sure why but I do know he was intoxicated.

I still marvel at that goal on youtube on a regular basis. I feel for his old man too, an 85 year old widower. It was a double shock looking at the news, as only a few moments before I'd discovered an old high school mate (whom I haven't seen since then) will do close to twenty years in jail but hearing about D really saddened me.

RIP Dalian. A shocking travesty that you've been taken so early. Gone but never forgotten...Holte Ender in the Sky.

Anyone remember the goal he scored against us for Ipswich? I remember thinking then, what a player, we should get him.

Yes I do. I think we were 6-0 or 6-1 up at the time but a good strike, bent in off the bar from the edge of the area. Have been searching vain for it on YouTube.
Think we won 6-2 in the end Platty got 4 - remember my Dad turning round and saying "best goal of the night, we should sign him!".

For me the abiding memory will always be the opening goal that seemed to take an eternity to reach the goal in the league cup final and the absolute pandemonium that broke out behind that goal.

I was sitting behind that goal and you are right. It happened in slow motion. I think I celebrated two birthdays between him shooting and the ball going in.

He scored two belters at Hillsborough one year, these sometimes get overlooked.

A genuine club great, from a golden age, with a medal to prove it.

"Daaaalian Atkinson, Dalian Atkinson"

RIP.

I had forgotten those. Am I right in saying the Dalian/umbrella game was pretty much the only one you missed that season because you had to work?
