Genuinely brought tears to my eyes. Despite the trophies i've seen us win if I could relive one Villa moment again it would be his Tranmere goal at VP. RIP Dalian.

Nicely summed-up by Bossie: "RIP Dalian Atkinson, at his best one of the very best."

Also comforting yet sad to hear Ugo and Tayles were both in contact with him this summer.

Dalian Atkinson was one of the reasons an interest in football and following Villa for me turned into a passion nay, an obsession.  On form, when he was flying at defences was all I wanted to do (as a "player") and watch as a fan.  I feel disingenuous to say Ill miss him, as I didn't really know him, and its been years since he was playing.  However I am really heartbroken that one of my heroes has passed on.  God was my favourite player in those days, but honestly it was Dalian I wanted to be

Looks like the 2014 tweet/comment has now been removed from the Mail's report and replaced by a tribute from Joey Barton

Gutted about this sad sad news. Especially tragic given the circumstance.
Thanks for the memories big man! a joy to have seen him in my childhood early Villa days. I will be watching the tranmere game on youtube later and raising a glass.

Still can't quite comprehend it. Was thinking about him just the other day and wondered whatever happened to him. Desperately sad.

I'm totally shocked and gutted by this awful news. Loved him and Deano in that great partnership in 92-93. RIP Dalian.

My first ever live game. Cracking match too.

Dreadful, dreadful news.

The type you hear and just want to go straight back to bed.

They say your life passes before you just before you shuffle off this mortal coil. If it does, I'm sure I'll be seeing that goal at Wembley (that took an age to get in) and the header against Tranmere.

Was that goal at Selhurst our best ever goal?  I'd say it probably is.

Talk on twitter of taking umbrellas in to VP (if allowed) tomorrow as a tribute...

Should have been replaced with a full apology for crimes against journalism.

What a team that was.  Just look at some of the names on the teamsheet, absolute class.  Hard to believe we didn't kick on.

They would have to replace the whole paper!

Oh I see what you did there!
