Whenever I picture Atktinson in my minds eye, he's hanging in the air in front of the Holte, for what seems like an eternity waiting for Daley's cross to reach him in that Tranmere semi final, then a half a second later it's in the net and the most amazing scenes of pandemonium and feelings of almost delirium.

To say it's a shocker is an understatement. If Dave W. is lost for words, then that says it all.

Unbelievable , loved him and had " deadly duo" villa t shirt for years with pics of him and deano on. Up in the midlands ready for tomoz game with excited expectant atmosphere. This terrible event has certainly changed the mood now. God bless

Fuck off, this can't be true. My all time favourite Villa player, the lad had it all and could have been up there with the greats. I went home and away to every game in 94, and that League Cup run has so many marvellous memories. I feel absolutely gutted at this news, it's just devastating.

He scored some absolute blinders. I barely missed a game, home or away in this period and Dalian was superb to watch. Made you tear your hair out at times because you knew if he fancied it there was no one that could come close on their day.

I loved everything about that team.

Stunned and truly upset at this news.

Lucky enough to spend a whole day with him and the squad when I won an evening mail competition 94-95 pre season, very attentive, joking around with me.

All of my best Villa memories were around Dalian as a teenager, my first ever away game at Anfield 94, Dalian scored amongst all of the others mentioned today.

My hero.

RIP Big man.

Sad news.  I think the Tranmere goal is my favourite in 94 as that gave just a sliver of hope before the second leg.  The chip against Wimbledon should be remembered as one of the best goals ever seen in the Premier league.  A really talented player in his day and unplayable when he was on it.

Shame the picture below also shows Les Sealey as well who died young.

A shared memory. I was right in line to that header on the Trinity side of the Holte, knew immediately it was in. Amazing run at the end nearly won it too.

So many great memories. Stunned.

That's mine to.  I think he hung there for 30 seconds at least.  Then there was that mazey run in extra time which would have produced the goal of ever..since football began had he scored. He above anybody else is the player who won us that League Cup in '94.
