Sheff Weds game is a decent shout, can't see them going for the Everton game though, like ours too much of a home banker. They generally want glamour, a derby or a good chance of an upset which is usually a tie like the Yeovil one, bigger boys away to the plucky little club.
TRANMERE supporters are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of a League Cup rematch with Aston Villa at the end of this month.A little over 18 years after a heartbreaking semi-final defeat over two legs, extra time and a penalty shoot-out to the Premier League giants, Rovers are heading back to Villa Park in the second round of the Capital One Cup. The tie will be played in the week beginning August 27.The potentially lucrative encounter is Rovers’ reward for squeezing past Chesterfield in round one with a 2-1 extra time win at the B2net Stadium on Tuesday.Current manager Ronnie Moore was first-team coach in 1994 when Tranmere, then a second tier club, finished level at 4-4 on aggregate after 210 minutes, then lost a penalty shootout of twists and turns in front of a full house at Villa Park.Ron Atkinson, Villa’s boss at the time, reckoned it to be the most exciting game of his long managerial career.“It was a totally dramatic game,” Atkinson recalled following his retirement. “People ask about the best games I’ve been involved in. I think in terms of drama, that would take some whacking because it had everything.”Most fans can remember how Tranmere’s 3-1 success in the rousing first leg at Prenton Park had a sting in the tail for the underdogs.John King’s team surged into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Mark Hughes, Ian Nolan and John Aldridge. However, Dalian Atkinson pull a late goal back for Villa following a disputed free kick and his manager’s remark on the night ‘that goal could have changed everything’ proved to be spot on.In the return, Villa quickly drew level on aggregate thanks to well-taken goals by Dean Saunders and Shaun Teale. However, Aldridge edged Tranmere ahead once more from the penalty spot after being brought down by goalkeeper Mark Bosnich.Rovers hung onto their precarious advantage through most of the second half. But with two minutes of normal time left on the clock, Dalian Atkinson took advantage of a loss of concentration by the visitors from a free kick and headed home to bring the tie level at 4-4.Extra time failed to produce another goal, although Tranmere could not have come closer to snatching a winner. A free kick from new signing Liam O’Brien struck the underside of the angle of post and crossbar and somehow stayed out.The penalty shootout was as dramatic as the main event. Ged Brannan failed to convert Tranmere’s third kick, which meant Ugo Ehiogu had the chance to put Villa through with their fifth penalty, but hit the crossbar.Aldridge stepped up to make it 4-4, which sent the shootout into sudden death.Kevin Richardson fired Villa’s next penalty over but O’Brien, with the chance to send Tranmere to Wembley, saw his kick saved by Bosnich.Tony Daley scored with Villa’s next kick then Bosnich made his third save of the shootout to deny a crestfallen Nolan and Villa went through.Atkinson’s team went on to defeat mighty Manchester United in the final. Tranmere went home in tears but recovered their composure to make the Championship play-offs, where they were beaten in the semifinals by Leicester City.

If I pass I'll go as a little present to myself.Has the date been confirmed then? Good luck with the driving test. It's sometime that week, I saw '29th' from an earlier commenter and quickly assumed it was then...it might be the 28th actually now I think about it; but it should be one of the two.Either way, thanks

at £15.00 I'm going
Wish we'd go back to our traditional Wednesday midweek game night. That's a Villa night. Tuesday's was for Albion and Birmingham.
£10 a head and you might be looking at a decent gate. Coming off a weekend home game, I can't see many going for this at £15-£20.Dunno- if you wanted to take your kid in the holte you'd both get in for 20 quid. That's not bad value in my book.
