Yeah forgot to mention it in that post but from what we saw in the first few months of 2001-02 Alpay-Mellberg was shaping up to be as good a combination as Southgate and Ugo as they seemed to complement each other perfectly.
Gary Charles never appeared to be overly popular with the Villa Park faithful.

Going back a bit but a player I remember getting vitriolic abuse from the crowd was the late Brian Tiler. If I remember correctly ( I am sure someone can validate this) the barracking got so bad in one match Tiler was substituted and replaced by Davy Rudge. Tiler must have had some backbone however as he overcame the antithesis towards him and became a well respected midfielder whose performances led us to the League Cup final against Spurs.
