David Geddis. Was one of Saunders attempts to find the right striker. Couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo and faded into obscurity when we signed Peter Withe. Did have a bit of a cameo when we beat the filth 3-0 in the Championship season when he scored one and made another IIRC

current times it has to be Barry Bannan.Oh yes he runs up and down all match waving his arms like a tictac man but that doesn't mean he's working his socks off.In days gone by Gary Charles,Alan Wright and Ian Callaghan used to get dogs abuse from the Holte end

Geddis also scored a vital goal that season v Southampton, and I thought made a very positive contribution to the progress the team made in the season before we won the league.

Speaking of having mixed feelings about Staunton, always remember the game at anfield in about 96 live on sky, when we had a decent team under BL but had gone 3-0 down in the opening ten mins, the cameras showed Staunton in the dressing rooms laughing and joking with Liverpool staff having just been substituted. Cnut.

And it felt like he was 'coming home' when they briefly had him back. To think that we then allowed him back again once he had become old, fat, slow and shit. And attempting to score direct from corners like he was some sort of Irish Roberto Carlos or something! (which in fairness, he did manage on a couple of occasions IIRC?)

I always had a disliking of Gareth Southgate, for a few reasons, but the main reason was that he was always one of the players the media latched on to as being much better than he actually was, a bit like Rio Ferdinand. Yes, he was an average to good player, but if he was that great, why did he end up going to some random no-hope club?

And now he makes himself look like a twat regularly on TV.

Oh, and I also seem to recall it was him who got in David James way in the FA Cup Final that led to Chelseas goal.

I was never a fan of Brendan Ormsby or Paul Elliott. On the other hand, I think I am the only person I know who liked the bloke in between them, Steve Foster.

I am sure Geddis and Withe played together for a home game (Shaw must have been injured). When a move broke down Withe started moaning at Geddis for not passing to him,  cue  the Holte End giving Geddis loads of abuse.Withe realised this wasn't going to help Geddis or the team and backtracked and applauded him , cue the Holte End now giving Geddis their full support.

Geddis stepped in for Withe a few times that season. Withe served two suspensions and I think he missed a game through illness or injury too. The game you are talking about was the big clash with Albion towards the end of the season when Ron Saunders rested Gary Shaw. Geddis got four goals in eight starts plus one subs appearance that year. The problem with the fans started the season before when he was seen as Andy Gray's replacement of scored two in twenty.

Does anyone remember David Geddis, he used to get dogs abuse when ever he played for Villa,
1- he always replaced Sir Peter Withe when he was suspended and wasn't good enough to lace his boots,
2- he was Crap, he couldn't hit a cows ass with a banjo.

£300,000 plus from Ipswich money well wasted.

Any one else remember how poor he was?

His dad worked in our company for a while and 1) he was a lovely bloke who took a shine to the Villa 2) he told me how much Southgate loved the Villa and was convinced we were capable of going places

Take away his winners against Wolves and Southampton and we wouldn't have been celebrating the title at Highbury. We would have been sweating on Ipswich completing their fixtures against Southampton without winning by enough goals to overtake us. Also, without his goals the noses wouldn't had won promotion in '85. Isn't he the only Englishman to win the European Cup, League Title and FA Cup winners medals without playing for Liverpool, United or Chelsea?

I really never got it with Callaghan.  I mean he had a great reputation at Derby.  And he never, ever did it for us - was it a hike in wages, billy big bollocks scenario, or what.....There was nothing he did per se to annoy me except for being spectacularly shit from day one.
