DAVID UNSWORTH was THE first football player I disliked for Villa. A disgrace !
I was 9 years old when he believed our club was not suitable back in 98 ! Even though he had already signed?! All very confusing. >:(

I still cannot stand Stephen Ireland. I want to be able to like him, but I cannot get over the way he disrespected Villa - and he has still never produced any sort of consistent form. I still think it will all end in tears.

i also find his refusal to play for his country to be more than odd, too.

I can't stand Ireland. Really don't like Herd either.

I actually think some judgements of players are, whilst not totally wrong, a little wide of the mark. If I remember right the Nigel Callaghan situation started when Platt passed to him and had a go at him for not making enough effort to reach the ball. The crowd picked up on that resulting in Callaghan and a steward having a row and he was pretty much finished from then. Hodge deserves criticism for quitting his boyhood heroes Forest for Villa so he could play in his chosen position and get into the England side then once he had done that and Villa were struggling he wanted another move. However I have never believed his crap back pass against Norwich was a deliberate two fingers to the fans who were booing his every touch. I also always thought the Paul Mortimer gesture to the Holte End was blown out of proportion. And compare the bad feeling of Andy Gray quitting for Wolves to the lack of any bad feeling to Brian Little quitting for Blues but failing the medical.

I wasn't a fan, but he apparently loves the club so he's alright by me.

Going back a bit but a player I remember getting vitriolic abuse from the crowd was the late Brian Tiler. If I remember correctly ( I am sure someone can validate this) the barracking got so bad in one match Tiler was substituted and replaced by Davy Rudge.
Tiler must have had some backbone however as he overcame the antithesis towards him and became a well respected midfielder whose performances led us to the League Cup final against Spurs.

I remember back in the day I had a real dislike of TC, I remember going to Arsenal away with my brother and screaming at him as he was dawdling down the wing......"run you donkey, I could run faster than you whilst passed out" much to the amusement of the surrounding fans. I am fairly sure an offensive word may have slipped out somewhere amongst the words in that sentence too.

Nigel callaghan was a bit before my time, can someone tell me why he was so unpopular?

Only Villa player I've seen booed off in a reserve match. Useless twat.

Sasa Curcic - from the Grauniad:

Next up is Sasa Curcic, once of Bolton, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, whose wife Lisa told the Sunday Mirror in 1998 of the Serb's nasal surgery. "Some of [my friends] couldn't understand why I'd fallen for someone with such a big hooter," she said. "But I've never been attracted to pretty boys and I thought he had an interesting face and lovely eyes." She went on to explain that Curcic was operated on at a private London hospital, having complained about problems with his breathing. "Well, that was his story," said Lisa. "I think it was more to do with vanity because he was always telling me he'd like to have a nose like mine. He got into trouble with Villa because he didn't tell them he was having the surgery and it meant he couldn't play until it had healed." Villa's secretary-director Steve Stride confirmed this to the News of the World in 2000, saying: "While [Curcic] was with us he had his hair dyed, his teeth capped and underwent plastic surgery on his nose. I think he was trying to make himself more attractive to women but I suspect it had the opposite effect."

What a ******.

At least he gave the penis enlargement course a miss .

Then again, he was a big enough prick already.

Any reason for Gudjohnson?

Yes Alpay when we were all cheering him when he scored and he ran up to the Holte with his finger to his mouth giving it the shhhh.

I was also there at Blackburn when Savo spat at the Villa fans after he missed a sitter and we gave him dogs load of abuse.

Not a player but any thread regarding unpopular Villa people deserves a mention of O'Leary. Grade A. Will never be topped.
