I think all 4 would add something useful. Ayala is meant to be highly rated, but doesn't he belong to Liverpool? Snodgrass has good feet, and decent delivery from what I have seen, and is there not previous playing for Lambert in Scotland? Lacks pace, but can take a free kick, and we seriously lack decent delivery full stop, so if he is cheap, which he may be due to his contract, it could be a goer.

Holt has been done to death, but cheaply done he gives us something we lack, and scores goals. Old yes, but might be worth it.

Matt Phillips would be excellent. Now Ince has come through there too, maybe Phillips will be gettable so to speak, and Holloway might be on his bike anyway.

Could all be speculation and being as it was in the Mirror it probably is.  I think Ayala may have signed for Norwich on a permanent deal after being on loan to a few clubs from Liverpool.  From what I have seen of him, he is pretty big and physical, but is comfortable on the ball.  Would probably compliment Dunne or Collins pretty well.

Whenever I have seen Snodgrass he has always seemed like he definitely has the talent, but there is something missing.  I think he did play for Lambert up in Scotland and Lambert has tried to sign him on a couple of occasions since.  I agree that Phillips looks good, but am a little worried that he went on loan as recently as early last season because he was not playing for Blackpool.  You have to question if his good run of form after Christmas was a one off, but he looked impressive during that period and I would take him over Ince given the choice.  I don't think we should sign him, but the one Championship  winger that impressed me last season was Burke at the Blues.  Would not be surprised if Hughton tried to take him to Norwich with him.

As you say, the Holt one has been done to death and I am still hoping that one doesn't happen (though I think it will).  I would like our first signing of the summer to be a top level striker who is going to provide a bit of excitement.  Still remember we signed the likes of Dean Saunders, Collymore, Dublin and Bent, and the buzz they brought to Villa Park.  I know it is highly unlikely, but I would love to see us sign a striker like Defoe or even Daniel Sturridge and make a statement of intent.

I think he'll take Kyle Naughton from Spurs.

Would be a decent signing, even if only on loan.  He is an attacking full-back in the mould of Kyle Walker and Spurs owe us one after Jenas and Hutton!!

Robert Snodgrass - Kid looks classy

I can remember the last time we signed a 'classy' player from Leeds....

Like Dunney or a Barry kind of way (all over or bum)?

I've always liked him as a player, I just wonder why he is still there if he is as good as the very few time I have seen him.

I don't think that we will be making any big money signings this summer.  I think whoever PL brings in will be of the likes of Snodgrass, a proven Championship player who he believes he can improve into a steady Premiership player.  We need stability and some depth in the squad and also PL needs time to assess exactly what we have already on the books.  The likes of Clark, Bannan, Albrighton, Lichaj etc will need to be making their mark with 20 - 25 appearances next season or else I think they will be shown the door in 12 months time.  There is no point in spending big money on someone when the answer might already be here.

There is only one player I would want from Norwich and that is the CB Ryan Bennett who he signed in Jan. We could have a very good young back four of:

Eric - Bennett - Clark - Baker

For the next 10 years :)

It's hardly the most inspiring list of signings. Would love to see the squad complimented with some proven quality. With the Euro's on Lambert should be able to have a look at a fair few prospects.

It's a little risky just looking at the Euros and falling in love with any one player. I would hope that our scouts will have seen some of the players now playing at the tournament for an extended period of time and their performance at the championships pnly confirms their thoughts. I'll put money on Dunne playing a blinder for Ireland but it won't tell the whole story of his strengths and liabilities.

I can see us bringing in Kyle Naughton. He had a good season for Lambert at Norwich and being a Spurs player we wouldn't have the reluntance to sell to us that Norwich will probably show if we go after one of their players. Spurs are well covered in that department and once Lambert looks at the DVDs from last season he will be thinking about the right back position.

My personal hope is that he tries to build us around the German model. Hard working teams, no little skill, but sides that play to the very end and are incredible versatile and efficient. If we can't compete financially we should be able to compete in other ways and consistently. And certainly always look to beat those teams around us and below us and give it a real go every time against the sides above us.

I couldn't agree more.

Me three.  I’d even go as far as suggesting we become a bit of a feeder club for Dortmund (in the short term).  If they have some more youngsters then we should sign them in a similar way to how Chelsea signed that guy from Barca.

Dortmund tend to chuck their players in pretty young anyway. If they end up having sahin, kagawara, lewandowski, the right back fella and others all poached by bigger clubs despite winning 3 major trophies in 2 years I think tat would say so much about what's wrong with football.

Unless someone comes to villa of course
