So now it is double standards for anyone who is a mod OR has enough posts?

The reason ths thread is here is because we are talking to the bloke in question. There will probably be one for Lambert if we speak to him.

It has nothing to do with who started it.
Flipping heck Paul, did you forget your sense of humor pill this morning?  :)
You’re right, this thread is relevant, as I feel the ' Who do you want as our next manager' thread is becoming a bit of a joke.
I've not a problem with the new thread. There can be one for every candidate as far as I'm concerned. I made a light hearted comment (thus the smiley) that's all!

Apols if i was a bit arsey. It's been somewhat traumatic dealing with the multiple manager threads of late.

This is the man Randy wants. The messages that we are getting saying that there are more on the shortlist is just simply the club attempting to manage (our) expectations should it all go tits up.

More like this is the man that Randy has been told that he needs.  There's no way Lerner and Faulkner have come up with this one on their own, so I wonder whose advice thay have taken this time?  You would hope they were not stupid enough to go back to Ferguson after his recommendation of McLeish and proclamations of what a good job he was doing.  Hopefully they worked out that Ferguson's main interest was getting his acolytes in employment rather than the welfare of Aston Villa and steered well clear.  They do seem to have an obsession with Manchester United though, so it wouldn't surprise me if they have sounded him out again.

Has actually been mentioned but Lerner's friends with Jurgen Kilnsmann now base in the good ol' U.S and he recommended him to Lerner, not Sir Fergie.

I'm sure he's angling after the Manure job, but he'll have to prove himself first, and that means winning things, so I am more than happy for him to do that with us.

If his successful with us I think he will stay with us. Fergie has made it hard for any incoming manager at Manure. Hard  to follow a club legend.

If he ever got offered the united job of course he would take it!

Of course he would Eastie, they're the biggest and bestest club in the world!  Let's have little old Villa being a testing ground for their would-be managers and players.  That's the way to rebuild Villa for the long term.  Why should we want a manager at Villa who might want to stick around and grow Villa to reach its undoubted potential?  Good old Ole and good old man utd they're destiny...it would be an honour for Villa to help such a story unfold!
Name me a manager that we could appoint that, if united came calling, would turn the opportunity to manage them down.

I think we all have to be realistic in terms of who else we could bring in.  With our squad I sincerely doubt Rodgers could play the kind of football he does at Swansea.  He's worked with that team for quite a while to get them how they are.

As for Lambert - one swallow doesn't make a summer.  He's had back to back promotions and would be a decent shout, but still a gamble, and anyone who says different doesn't know a jot about football in the modern age.  I'd still think he was our best bet.

Martinez...looks like he's destined to go elsewhere after turning us down before!

Rafa - we don't have the funds for him to be successful

AVB - still smarting and a gamble - wouldn't come to us anyway.

Now on to Ole....I honestly think in any other circumstances, he'd be a great punt.  young, enthusiastic, showed he had something at United Reserves, and took Molde to a title with a negative outlay in transfers.  My only concern is this is hot off the back of arguably our worst ever season in the Premiership.  We need stability and platforms...this smacks of too much of a gamble for me.

If Ole got in Steve Clarke as assistant I would be slightly happier.

I'll back whoever we get, and I think Ole would come good...I hope, if we go for him, that he hits the ground running as there are mistakes to be made when learning...and I don't want us to be the proving ground.

Is anyone or anything, whether they be manager, player or supporter, ever going to be good enough for you?

Plenty of folks are good enough for me Dave, but a totally unproven manager from the Norwegian leagues being asked to turn us around is astonishing really.  I'm seeing no evidence  - apart from rabid blind faith based on an MUTV video(!) - that OGS is up to the task in hand.  Look, I want us to get this very important appointment as spot on as the next man, but this job is, in my opinion, a step too big and a step too soon for a novice like OGS. This reminds me of the giddy delight Middlesboro fans got themselves in when Bryan Robson became their boss.

If we want former European/league/ Cup winners who are excellent coaches and reserve team managers to lead our club then I'll throw my weight behind K Mac and Sid.  Just as much of a gamble, for sure, but if it worked I'd feel much more confident that they would be here for the long term good of our club.

Same with players. Like in the old days if Enlgand wanted your manager then he's obviously done a very good job. So when its the biggest club in the world, the same goes.

I'm already sick of the idea of hearing "Aston Villa manager and former Manchester United striker, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer..." and I haven't heard it yet.

Not sure why there's a massive love in with him. Seems to me that there'll be MASSIVE expectation of him, and having to wait while he bombs arseholes like Dunne and Collins out of the club and get the team playing attractive football is something a lot of people won't have patience for.

At least with Rodgers or Lambert the expectation is that they build there teams gradually and purposefully and this would be the expectation. OGS is coming across on here as the grand solution to everything.

I very much doubt he will be. I WANT him to be. If he comes, I hope he is. But I just don't think it's going to work out that way.

You know when you're getting old when the mum in ET looks fit.

Just wait until you reach an age when you think ET is fit, until you put your distance glasses on and realise who it is.

I can't remember the last time Owen was on the bench for United never mind in the first team. I'd rather us take a chance with someone like Jordan Rhodes.

Owen scored 17 in 52 games for manure, only 18 of which he started.

For all his faults when he was Chairman, Doug Ellis would have never allowed the chairman of a club like Wigan get one over on him.

Me arse. He even let Brighton make us look bad when they had to sue us for the Barry tribunal money.

Maybe so Dave, but I don't think he would have let Whelan rubbish us so openly in the media without making some kind of riposte.

Yeah, Randy Lerner should get into a war of words with the chairman of Wigan.  That'd make Villa look really good.

Me! *winky thing*

Obviously plenty of folk would be tempted Ger, but why go for a manager who who definitely would?  How can we seriously have stability and long term planning at Aston Villa with such a figure?

I agree with the Bryan Robson correlation.  I still think OGS could work with a Steve Clarke in situ as an Ass. Manager, but I agree; to say it's not a gamble is to be as naive as said Boro fans.

I dont think Villa need to say anything in response to Whelan's comments.  We can just do our talking on the pitch next season when we will finish higher than them in the league and they will get relegated
