For all his faults when he was Chairman, Doug Ellis would have never allowed the chairman of a club like Wigan get one over on him.

Me arse. He even let Brighton make us look bad when they had to sue us for the Barry tribunal money.

Maybe so Dave, but I don't think he would have let Whelan rubbish us so openly in the media without making some kind of riposte.

Yes yes.   New, young and ambitious.

I've had a spring in my step this morning with the prospect of Ole being appointed, but I've just realised it'll be the first time we'll have had a manager who's younger than me.
Bugger, now i just feel old. Do we get cheaper tickets and a bus pass once we become older than the manager?

Have you noticed: the policemen are looking younger.

Owen is a finisher, much rather him than gabby on the end of chances created, but only if its appearance related.

I'm sure he's angling after the Manure job, but he'll have to prove himself first, and that means winning things, so I am more than happy for him to do that with us.

If his successful with us I think he will stay with us. Fergie has made it hard for any incoming manager at Manure. Hard  to follow a club legend.

If he ever got offered the united job of course he would take it!

Of course he would Eastie, they're the biggest and bestest club in the world!  Let's have little old Villa being a testing ground for their would-be managers and players.  That's the way to rebuild Villa for the long term.  Why should we want a manager at Villa who might want to stick around and grow Villa to reach its undoubted potential?  Good old Ole and good old man utd they're destiny...it would be an honour for Villa to help such a story unfold!

You know when you're getting old when the mum in ET looks fit.

If Solskjær gets the job, which sick note, ex-England, out of contract striker do you think he'll sign first?

If we get him on the right terms I'd love to see Owen at the Villa.  Might teach Gabby a thing or two

Spot on mate, have been saying this since I heard Owen was released by Man u

If it was McLeish signing Owen would you think the same?  Owen is a crock, he'd be on high wages and he would not be the type of signing on which to rebuild Villa.  Have twelve months of some of the shittest football ever turned our fanbase into a bunch of quivering wrecks?  Before my eyes we're turning into a Middlesborough or Coventry City happy to accept literally anything as long as it's not a certain ginger Scottish manager.

That's why I said "on the right terms", meaning pay as you play, not £60k a week.

As for McLeish, he is already a distant memory and I don't want to dwell on that rancid season a moment longer.  I couldn't give a monkeys what he would have done, he's not here anymore.

Bring on the entusiasm again! I can't wait to take my seat at the first game with a new manager, get behind the lads and get back where we belong

Is anyone or anything, whether they be manager, player or supporter, ever going to be good enough for you?

Stolen from Twitter, made me laugh:

Love that we sent a private jet to bring Solskjaer in. The Blues board told Hughton "Catch the 45 and get off at the Man On The Moon" #AVFC

This is the man Randy wants. The messages that we are getting saying that there are more on the shortlist is just simply the club attempting to manage (our) expectations should it all go tits up.

More like this is the man that Randy has been told that he needs.  There's no way Lerner and Faulkner have come up with this one on their own, so I wonder whose advice thay have taken this time?  You would hope they were not stupid enough to go back to Ferguson after his recommendation of McLeish and proclamations of what a good job he was doing.  Hopefully they worked out the Ferguson's main interest was getting his acolytes in employment rather than the welfare of Aston Villa and steered well clear.  They do seem to have an obsession with Manchester United though, so it wouldn't surprise me if they have sounded him out again.

Christ almighty.

I've criticised the board as much as the next man over the last few years, but can't you just give them a bit of credit for having learned something and chosen a manager who looks a very good fit for the club rather than picking one of the obvious pool of utterly underwhelming British managers?

Can you explain why he is a very good fit for the club because I am struggling to see it myself.

Just logged in at lunch.... I think we need to take a deep breath. I am as excited as anyone, he is a good young manager, but there is a decent chance he will still say no.

Owen is pretty much finished more like, hence man utd dispensing of his services.  Out with Emile and in with Owen!  Genuinely, this does not strike me as forward thinking.  We need to scout and invest in talent with resale value.

If we could get Owen on a decent wage or pay per play contract then he's certainly worth using as a short term option.

Funny quip. I still live in hope there is one Top League regular older than me (Brad F) so there is still time for me yet.

I can't remember the last time Owen was on the bench for United never mind in the first team. I'd rather us take a chance with someone like Jordan Rhodes.
