I believe he's first choice.

Good move in your opinion?

Very.
I agree. I posted a similar though on the other thread.
This brings me nicely to another point.
Had I, or another non mod, started this thread instead of Risso, a mod, would we have been met with the inevitable "We already have a thread for our next manager" and had it locked down?  ;)
Think I can hazard a guess at the answer  :)

Your theory breaks down on the point that Risso isn't a mod.
Which is why I just changed it.
He's as good as one, though, with 30,000+ posts

As with transfers when one gets close, they get their own thread.

I think there is a slight gamble, but less of a gamble than employing McLeish 12 months ago.

I'd be happy with Solskjaer.

So now it is double standards for anyone who is a mod OR has enough posts?

The reason ths thread is here is because we are talking to the bloke in question. There will probably be one for Lambert if we speak to him.

It has nothing to do with who started it.

If I might, I would wish to suggest that we all take a deep breath. Nothing is set in stone, there is no deal done as of now. This is all about increasing options and trying to find the best fit for the club, be it OGS, Risso, or Dave Woodhall! There is a desire to get a manager in as expedient a way as possible, but I would say that it would be wise at this juncture not to become too committed to any one name.

Randy's jet has just touched down at Ronaldsway.  However, I'm not sure that I'm prepared to turn my back on Ramsey FC, so don't get your hopes up Pelty.  You may have to go with your second choice of Dave Woodhall.

Pelty seems to imply more than one agent has been spoken to and that nothing is anywhere near being settled.

I think its fair to say that the club are keen on OGS.

I always have to make my own way to job interviews.

80%+ say yes.. youve all lost the plot. Thats what a year of Eck does to you!
Maybe thats what people thought when Everton appointed Moyes. Preston to Everton?

Try looking up Moyes' record at Preston before comparing him to somebody whos done nothing in comparison. Norwegian title (that was bought) is all he's achieved. Would be 3 crap appointments in a row in my opinion.
Big follower of Norwegian football are we?

David Moyes got Preston promoted and then they did fairly well in the Championship. Certainly a decent achievement, but hardly something astonishing. Presumably if you want something similar then Nigel Adkins is your first choice for manager?

You're doing Moyes a bit of dishonour there. He took over a relegation threatened team and had them winning the division as champions less than 2 years later. He then did rather well in the championship or whatever it was called then.

I have no idea of what the Norwegian league is like and I didnt claim that i did in my previous post, only what Ive discovered in my research that he had more money to spend than his rivals. I'm guessing its more like Dr Martens league than the Premier league though.

All I'm saying is that if we are going to take a punt on a complete unknown I cant see why everyones so excited about it, and since we are taking a punt on a complete unknown then why cant it be someone with Villa connections?

The worries that Ole Gunnar Solskjær would use villa as a stepping stone are crazy too. So what if he does. It means we're successful. And it wouldn't be Manchester united i'd be worried about. They'd want him to be consistant for a number of years. The only team that would be gung-ho enough to rob someone else's success after a couple of years would be Chelsea.

Exactly , If and when he went for the Manure game , he would be up against the mourinho and Guardiola's of the world for that job , so he would have had to do an amazing job at Villa for them to be interested.

my favourite villa manager was john gregory

I was with you until then.  Gregory's style of football was one level above that of McLeish - just.

oh the footy was not the best but we had some wild rides. and a cup final, and what i would give to top the league for 3 months again now, with the dross we had in our squad was a miracle admittedly he had signed some of said dross

Heh. Just been reading up about Molde. apparently in his last season before moving to the plastic mancs he scored 31 goals in 42 matches and they only finished 8th so he knows all about shit defences........

If he was successful and went on to Chelsea it would still be a stepping stone to ManU.

I'd rather worry about where he might go in the future once we have a few shiny pots in the cupboard.

Perhaps its indicative of the available managerial quality out there at the moment.

There are question marks against Lambert, Rodgers and Martinez for me. The last time a new Villa manager was might have been considered risk-free was when Atkinson left Sheffield Wednesday.

The only modern day equivalent for me is David Moyes, but I understand that isn't viable.

Don't know anything about him as a manager, managed United reserves and Molde up in Norway. Thats as far as my knowledge goes. Villa would be a pretty big club for your  first time managing a serious team. Another gamble by the powers that be. Do we need to gamble again? The other two didn't work out.
Not sure how I would feel about him managing us.....he could be the man this club have been looking for....he could be a disaster..... Do we need another season of uncertainty.

Not sure about OGS becoming next avfc manager but will back him regardless.  Its a massive gamble and would have preferred Lambert
Im just worried that SAF has provided another letter to RL to give his glowing reference of him
