Not a player but a player’s son. Paul Merson’s son scored an outrageous goal for Hanworth Villa. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/video/2025/mar/05/what-a-moment-paul-mersons-son-scores-outrageous-goal-video

Must have been watching some of his dad's games.

You think Matt Targett would actually want to play more games . He could be a useful player in a lower half prem team or top end championship
He’s hardly ever getting minutes for Newcastle is he?!

I imagine he's quite happy being paid £100,000 (which is nearly three times what we were paying him) for his current lifestyle.

But that’s what I mean . He really could look at playing football . there was a time he came close to be called up to England side .
He use to play so well with Jack.
Dean Smith would probably fancy Matt to come to MLS , Targett is well known in america after all.

Ex-Villa Players not currently playing

I noticed Diego Carlos not in the squad for Fenerbahce against Rangers.  Looked up what he'd been doing, and he got injured in his third game and hasn't played since.

Something underrated, Idrissa Gueye's first time, inch-perfect, volleyed cross on the run for Everton's equaliser yesterday was one of the best passes of the season.

Saw Benteke playing for DC United at Orlando last night. He’s playing in a poor side - got plenty of practice for that at our place - and can still do a reasonable job at holding the ball up but he’s a mere shadow of the player we had now.

Deano has Charlotte second in the league and flying, signed a contract extension this week.

I see Kasper Schmeichel is out injured for a few weeks meaning Sinisalo may get a couple of games for Celtic now. He had a decent season on loan last year and I was kind of surprised to see us sell him. Be interesting to see how he gets on.
