It's a tribal thing and you can't seperate the two, he's not just a shit manager, he's a shit ex-Small Heath manager.

The tribalism distorts the reality and makes people do irrational things, that, in the cold light of day seem bizarre. Like doing the conga around the pub when another team goes down, refusing to have their colours in your house and contributing to 300 odd page thread about them.

Sometimes it results in damage and injury which for most of us is a step too far. But I prefer football with this tribalism, it's part of what makes the game in this country and makes defeat so much more painfull and victory all the sweeter. It's utterly organic and is not a profit led Sky creation.

They've taken almost everything else from us, hope of winning the league, the competetive edge, the unpredictable nature of the game not to mention an affordable and convenient weekend pass time. This is one thing they can't touch, hard though they may try.

Given a good season, the naysayers will go quiet but when things get tough that background will always be there making a tricky job even harder.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

If he hadn't been a Blues manager but had that shit record, there wouldn't have been so many people protesting. But then again, if he was a former Blues manager who had an excellent record there, there also wouldn't have been many people protesting.

If he'd been the latter, I'd personally be gloatingly happy we'd stolen him from them.
I agree.

There appears to be no "Keep Alex at St Andrews" protest from the Bluenoses, does there?

I agree with Paulie, if I thought AM was great i'd be pissing myself that they finally had a decent manager and he left them for us. But he seems to me to be mediocrity personified.

It's very noticeable that not many of them seem bothered he's left, some are bothered he's coming here but that's about it. Sums it up really.

Over the last few seasons, I've had constant earache from 3 Dogshitter mates about how negative and shit his football is.

They're laughing their bollocks off now.

I met a few noses for a beer last night, to a man they thought it hilarious that we were hiring him and thought it was only that jammy cup win that saved him from the bullet. They were quite excited by the possibility of getting rid of him and getting in Di Matteo.

Since when have we taken seriously anything Noses have to say?

I think their problems run a lot deeper than the manager and whoever they bring in will struggle with that bunch of mentalists running the show.

I agree. Their problems quite amazingly run much deeper than ours.

Well two of them have been ST holders since the 70s and have seen their fair share of shit, in fact they are shit boffins. For them to rate him as the producer of the dullest football they've seen his pretty good going.

I wouldn't take any notice if they were saying it now, but they complained about his style of football all the way through his tenure.

Feel free to balance it out with any stories of Blues fans weeping like willows at his departure.

The ones I know say much the same but put it down to pragmatism. Let's face it up until March it had worked pretty well, their best ever finish last season and a cup this - that's as good as it gets for them.

My point was that even if they're right I don't agree with them on principle.

Speaking to a nose today.Funny how suddenly their Carling Cup win is now" a lucky run of home games and a flukey winner" in February it was "you can only beat who's in front of you and we completely outplayed Arsenal "

Their loss, our gain.

12 months ago a lot of people on this board would have took him. One bad season with a shit team and no one does.

He has my complete support.

Well yes, my position was 'your most successful manager ever would rather come to a club where he'll be despised than stay with you mugs' it was all a bit half hearted though.

3 months ago a lot of people would have took him , with a much cheaper team than ours he wasnt that far from finishing above us and with 3 games to go there was little to choose between us.
