Well two of them have been ST holders since the 70s and have seen their fair share of shit, in fact they are shit boffins. For them to rate him as the producer of the dullest football they've seen his pretty good going.

The ones I know say much the same but put it down to pragmatism. Let's face it up until March it had worked pretty well, their best ever finish last season and a cup this - that's as good as it gets for them.

My point was that even if they're right I don't agree with them on principle.

Well yes, my position was 'your most successful manager ever would rather come to a club where he'll be despised than stay with you mugs' it was all a bit half hearted though.

Why? Sums it up perfectly

Because he's them personified, unsuccessful, dour, boring, hapless. They were well suited, before all this I quite liked him for giving me so much ammunition.

I was so amused by the bemused look on Mark Austin's face when, after showing the protest on ITN they cut back to him in the studio that I watched it again on ITV1+1 an hour later. This war correspondant looked a bit confused at this reaction to a football managerial appointment.

Sky News carried two reports of the protest; one that gave a full picture of what went on that included a few interviews. One fella spoke well, the others not so. The other, shorter report was what looked like a gang of 15 chavs standing on a street corner, which was the other side of the street from the North Stand gates. It made us look ridiculously small time.

Obviously it's impossible to control what the media put out but it was always going to reflect badly on us. I'm sure the chap decked out in Villa gear loves the club to bits but to be quoted that "if McLeish is appointed I'm going to take off all my Villa stuff, put it in a plastic bag and set fire to it outside the club shop" only serves to give the nation a giggle, unless of course you're a Villa fan.

I'm sure come the new season, after a few decent signings, that same fella will be back down Villa Park, cheering on the lads. He may not sing of his love for the manager but I'm sure he'll realise that nobody is bigger, no matter how good or bad, than the club itself.

Anyone see the scenes from Vancouver following the Stanley Cup defeat?

If McLeish loses his first game I demand nothing less.

I kept meaning to do a post about it in OT. Thing is they would probably have done the same if they'd won.

On a more serious note, there were some nasty looking pictures from it, especially the guy who looked as though he had been knocked out cold on the road with a group of blokes around him.

Why so patient? If we're losing at half-time I'm on it like a car bonnet.

what's going to be even more funny is that if we do make a few decent signings he'll have to go down to club shop and reinvest in all his Villa gear again. He'll regret lighting that match and club will be few hundred quid better off.

I don't believe for a minute the chap really plans to burn his Villa gear. It was a ridiculous statement to make, probably designed to shock the journalist. People say strange things when you shove a TV camera in their face. Just look at Damon. (winky) I'm sure between now and the start of the season, with a few good signings in, that fella will be down the Villa for the opening game. He may not sing the praises to our new manager and I'm sure he won't be alone.

Emotions are running high and despite all the good intentions in the world, the protest was always going to result in one thing; making us look like Newcastle which is most injust, as we're far better than that.

My Villa gears up in the loft for now, I'll re-assess my feelings in a few weeks time. I’ve looked at Exeter City season ticket prices today, that’s how I’m feeling right now.

I really don't understand the fuss about the appointment. Maybe not growing up in B'ham means that my anti-Small Heath feelings aren't as strong.

I wish A-Mac all the best and hope that he wins the protesters over. If he does, that'll mean that Villa are winning games, which is all that matters.

It's not the SHA link that's the problem, UKR. It's that he's fucking shit.

Bit of advice, take it out of the loft before setting light to it.
