Has anybody mentioned Klinsmann yet? We were strongly linked to him before.

Another good shout, real thinker about the game, pair him with a good No 2.

There are options out there.

Holloway would turn us into a laughing stock.

On, and off the pitch.

I think we should contact his agent and say we're interested, which he'd then leak to the press amid a lot of sucking up to the club and saying what a great job it would be, and then tell him "Nah - only joking!"

Should get him cheap......20 acres should do it.

And a brand new combine harvester.

To quote one of Mr Holloways favourites, why would we want a small time manager who used to be in the big time like him in charge of our football club?

Who used to be nearly famous.

Regarding Ancelotti. Am I the only one that would be more nervous of this appointment than that of Martinez. Has he ever had to run the complete playing side of a club, eg developing coaching, youngsters, and searching for players. And has he really achieved anything outside his Italian comfort zone. Did not really do much at Chelsea when you consider the resources at his disposal.

That's a bit harsh. He won the Double in his first season, finished runners up in his 2nd, and is still popular with Chelsea fans.

I suppose winning the Premier League and FA Cup double in 2010 isn't doing much.

Agreed.

Not even Mourinho managed the double with them and he had them flying at the start of this season until Roman inexplicably sacked his assistant.

I agree. He has a lot of good attributes. I'd still see him as like a fifth or sixth choice after Carlo, Hughes, Moyes etc. A decent enough option all the same.

Maybe I'm overly optimistically reading between the lines, but I think if it were to be Hughes we would know by now.  I'm really really hoping we are indeed treating Carlo to a slap up brunch at Claridges whilst selling Randy's vision to him!  (Unless we're in a cafe with Loius van Gaal toking on a mellow one doing the same, which would be my dream choice!)

Wiki:
Ancelotti was appointed Milan manager in 2001, after Fatih Terim was sacked, due to poor results. He was inheriting another recently trophyless team in Milan, as the Rossoneri had floundered domestically and in Europe since their last Scudetto victory in 1999. In his first full season, Ancelotti soon had Milan back in European competition, leading them to the semi-finals of the 2001–02 UEFA Cup.

Apparently we will have to 'pay off' Ged. Does that mean that we will go for a cheaper option as a manager? I truly believe that the club's leadership will state very clearly their intent with this appointment. Mid-table mediocrity/survival or pushing for something great. Maybe the early spend + O'Neill + Acorns and the other good things done at the club were just early days PR before mediocrity beckoning. Not sure. I am inclined to see it that way - but the Darren Bent signing niggles that theory. Unless we can sell him for 30-35m and then it all makes sense. Hughes won't take us higher but will probably keep us up. Mediocrity.

Not with the Chelsea team he had, in my opinion. And that was whilst he also had Wilkins in the background. But perhaps more importantly from our perspective, is what did he do to develop the team, and to develop, or bring through youngsters. He just managed, albeit reasonably well, the same ageing and deteriorating team. That may be not his fault, but that is not the sort of manager we need.

Ok, if we are picking our ideal candidates then someone like Van Gaal would be brilliant, Ancelotti a close 2nd with Moyes a safe and steady 3rd.

On the flip side, big feck offs going out to Hughes, Holloway and Benitez.
