BTW thanks to whoever - this Craig Armstrong is new to me and it is beautiful stuff.

I agree, what was wrong with the old theme? I thought it was nice and got the ol' blood pumping a bit.

I hated it - too churchy (yep, it's a word) & high-pitched.

Unfortunately, the bells (both pre-match tolling & post-match peeling) just haven't worked & are embarrassing.

Hells Bells, Outlaws version of Ghostriders or anything fairly lively will do.  The stuff we've had recently has been all too cerebral & serious.

Fans won't be told what to do, they make it up.
Not strictly true - fans at Anfield, Old Triffid, Upton Park, WHL and Stamford Bridge all join in with their club songs at the beginning / end of games.
Fans at Bramall Lane, Britannia, Elland Road and many others spontaneously burst into their song before games.
Where Villa have failed is - as people above have said - with the funereal bells and absence of North-end screen for the words to be displayed to the larger sections of crowd. They're also trying to do it during a season of unmitigated mediocrity, which doesn't really help.
The problem with the "Silent Movie" suggestion is that it is not something that the crowd would join in with, is it? Don't get me wrong - I like it and it appeals to my growing nostalgia, and all that; but if we want something that rouses the crowd and can be replicated at away games, it ain't going to do it.
I admit to being slightly envious of clubs that have a distinctive song that they 'own' -  "Delilah", "Annie's Song", "We're forever blowing bubbles", "Marching on together", etc; it gives the fans some further ownership and marks them out at away games. Why can't we have something like that?!!

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

The songs got bells at the start, and they're from Aston.

Of course, it might mean, we're evil satanners.

I can't find the full original version on youtube though.

I liked Escape by Craig Armstrong. Found it quite haunting and intimidating when the teams came out to it at VP>

On a slight change of subject, what happened to "Come on you lions" as the players are about to kick off?

you can understand why the film wasn't made if that was the theme tune. Never liked it and just seems terrible nostalgia coming on to that. Might as well rotate between that and the theme from rentaghost.

Are we going to be able hear the church bells in the ground now with the new stands?

I really like the Ghostriders idea.
Though there are perhaps too many animal noises on the Ramrods' version...

They will ring from 3.35-3.55 so I guess it is intended for the walk up to the ground.Doubt you will be able to hear much inside
