Soccer AM is a quasi "comedy" show that included the ying and yang of Lovejoy taking the piss out of womens football and the Soccerette and having Helen Chamberlain as host, an educated and knowledgable female football fan.

The Soccerette was particularly "ironic" and as such has never been viewed as sexist.

Gray's opinions contain no irony whatsoever, nor did Keys if the clip is anything to go by.

Thats the difference.

Judging offsides in the epl is slightly more nuanced and difficult than turning up once a week to 'analyse' the extent to which a striker has "SMASHED IT".

Having heard the recording seems keys was way worse, he seems genuinely angry that a woman was working in football, didn't realise the capacity to judge offside comes from the penis.

Rant over, sorry everyone

That's kind of what I was thinking. In that the recording I heard that they played on the news, it was hairy hands making all the remarks rather than Andy. can't see sky only sacking the one and not the other.

Or rather than Jim Richardson how about the lads from the football ramble podcast... Now that would be funny!

Keys should have no trouble getting another job. Pop a waistcoat and a fez on him, drug him stupid and drag him around swimming pools on the Costa Del Sol for English tourists to have their pictures taken with him. The fackin' chimp

He forgot about the off camera offhand rule about off colour rermarks. he is not the first...

From listening to his remarks he doesn't agree that Women can be officials in the game, so maybe he should walk away from the game if he doesn't like it. Along with his mate and every other bigot.

It's interesting that you believe that if someone holds the view that women shouldn't officiate at top level football matches they are automatically a bigot.

Seems a little over the top.

It may have been ironic in 1996, but it's hardly that now.

So a guy makes a comment off air about women not understanding the offside rule... really a sacking offence? I'm sure she is a good assistant ref (she must be to get to that level) and knows the rules and it makes Gray look a muppet, but sackable?

I just hope the same rules are applied by Sky to every comment that is made off air by its presenters and then sent to the press.

And I don't even like Andy Gray!

Gray leaves Villa for Sky then gets the bullet. I'm struggling to be sympathetic. Wasn't BFR our manager when he left, he also got the push for off air utterances. Careful what you say about Alan Green on FiveLive Sir Graham or you're next.

Football will be a better place without Andy Gray talking bollocks over the top of it.  Not if we can just get rid of Jamie Redknapp, or at least stop him looking like he's on a white knuckle ride when on a spiny chair.

We don't know what previous he has though? I'm of a similar opinion (as can be seen in my previous posts on this subject). An absolutely idiotic and ignorant conversation between the two of them about somebody that probably has more of a grasp on the rules of the game than they do. But I don't think he should have been sacked for this alone (and if anything Keys should have gone ahead of Gray). But that's taking it in isolation, i'm sure whatever was said / done previously will eventually get leaked.

Seems a little over the top.

How other way can you look at it?

The woman in question is fully qualified, has done her time climbing up the ranks of the other leagues and clearly, from her performance at Molineux, knows the laws of the game including the offside rule.
What other reason, other than being a bit of a bigot, could anyone have for thinking she should never officiate at the top level?

Yes, holding that view DOES mean that you are a bigot

Isn't he suing News Group Newspapers re the phone tapping scandal? That's part of Murdochs Empire. Hmmmmmm interesting.
Orders from the top then.

I've been waiting for an excuse to cancel sky and this could be it - when my neighbour threatened to over the  Haye-Harrison fight they came back and offered him a cheaper deal, so it's worth a try.

Not really, despite Massey obviously completing all the training and assesments in order for her to be awarded a top flight football match, Gray and Keys didn't believe that she was worthy of the position. Why? because she was a Woman. A fairly entrentched view in my opinion hence the "bigot" reference.

He should have been reprimanded, but sacking him is a bit harsh to be honest.

Grow up.

Intresting how you have a pop at Tim Tebow for holier-than-thou attitude.
