Yeah, end of an era. Thanks for the memories. But time both club and player moved on.

Cheers big John (hey that almost rhymes)

Just seen him in Stoke training gear, doesn't seem right.

Not very often we get a player who shows his love for us so much.

Will be remembered in years to come as a fans favourite!

I can't help thinking how some players get called all sorts for putting in a lot more work than Carew did. On his day he was as good as it gets, but he also ambled his way through a fair few lean spells.

I want to give him the benifit of the doubt, that he never recovered from his back problem.
A fit motivated commited Carew would have got us CL or maybe won a game at Wembley, he didnt.
like a lot of Villa players I will look at his time with us tinged with disapointment.

Take out his nonsense this season and Carew's record was pretty good. He was our top scorer in the three seasons we finished sixth - if wiki is to be believed his record is 117 appearances 49 goals. That is pretty good going for a guy we swapped Baros for. I think MON knew how to handle him best. He was never the most consistent of players and needed to be dropped every now and again to get the best out of him. Was a very poor decision to start with Heskey ahead of him in the Carling Cup final I thought. I think injuries have taken their effect and he clearly had no interest under McDonald or Houllier. But he was ur third best striker in recent times after Yorke and Angel so I'll always hold him in high regard anyway.

Hey guys and gals,

Stokie here in peace.

I've seen bits of Carew before but just thought I'd check in and get a more educated appraisal of the guy. What can we expect, what we can't expect etc?

Having had a look at his scoring record it looks impressive however I can't say I have ever been overly impressed whenever I have seen him.

What's happening at your end too? Never thought you'd struggle in all honesty. Hopefully you'll turn it around soon.

All the best for the rest of the season.

WD

Hard to say.

Pulis actually wants him, which straight away separates him from GH.

A player playing for a manager who has faith in him can make a big difference.
He was a cult hero here, I wouldn't say legend as that's reserved for a special few.

Can he still be one of the most effective forwards in the league or is his back injury too far gone? We'll watch with interest, as -if he poodles through games as he has done for us in the past few months- it'll look like the latter.  If he does well, it might suggest that motivation alone was the issue and it was a failure on behalf of our new management to utilise him properly and get him fired up.

In your favour,  he should  be keen, either to secure a longer deal at Stoke or to put himself in the shop window. But with JC, you can never quite tell.

Header against the albion too!! we didn't deserve to win that game really and it took a player of big john's class to step up.

farewell, big man. bags of class, but not backed-up with the effort unfortunately.

We love him already! Scored 2 on Saturday, (although one given to Huth for a unintentional touch when it was going in anyway).
But I think the move has been great for him, we may be higher up the table than you but we are a smaller club, he may feel a bit more love here than he was getting at yours probably down to GH. On Saturday his body language on the pitch was first class running for lost causes and playing with a smile. I think he will be as good a signing and Tommy so thanks and good luck for the season.

Not always, but yes we did on Saturday.
Many fans (Villa) thought he wouldn't try for us though. Yes it's early days but he has ran his socks of so far.
