My kids will be gutted. They love him

That will be his legacy. Everyone will remember him fondly, and probably more fondly than he deserves.

Amazing that he was with us for so long.
Thanks for the memories (In the games you could be arsed)

he deserves a clap for his contributions over the last three and a bit years.

It wouldn't surprise me if he had the clap after his 'contributions' of the last three years.

I think we got the best out of him. I'll never forget the way he destroyed SHA in the 5-1 drubbing. then there was that time he came on against Wigan, away and completely turned the game - then Reading in the FAC  etc ......

Farewell John. You're an enigma but completely hopeless for far too much of your footballing time.

he gave us some good memories, but his last few months have been nothing short of disgraceful...

he could have been one of the very best, but didnt want it enough...

Against Arsenal when he was subbed off was the fastest he'd moved that day, it was really noticeable.

He was finished for us the afternoon he blasted that penalty out of the ground at Newcastle! Been the shadow of the player he was for us.

Good luck!

yeah I remember him missing a few against west ham as well.....   but you are right...

One of the most frustrating players I have seen in the Villa shirt.  He had all the attributes to do what Drogba has done for Chelsea (obviously not the dying swan stuff) but seemingly couldn't be arsed most of the time.

His time was up for me , when I wanted Heskey in the team before Carew, and I would never have said that before the season had started....

That clearance from our box, away at Reading, with his shoulder was a pretty unique moment in following The Villa.
