not sure I like the way Houllier has been criticising players in public. Obviously he has to get control of the squad and make his mark and there will be some comings and goings. Its far to early to make any judgements on him and I hope he's successful, but for me Houllier's only talked a good game so far.

The thing is if asked, a manager is then given the choice of giving a mundane blah blah response, or giving his opinion. I am fairly confident any said about Ireland will be nothing different to that he has said to Ireland himself, and the comments on Carew are hardly controversial - just made more so by Carew not liking them and doing an interview in the Norwegian press. Houllier has one more in British football than MON has, so I think Carew needs to show a bit more respect to be honest.

Interesting comments from John, especially the breaking his own rules part

Mark Hughes has had comments attributed to the Houllier - Ireland situation (where Houllier breaks his own rules again)
from the daily mail

''You have to know your players. Some can take criticism and others can't. Sometimes you can get it wrong and it can have a detrimental effect.'

Obv Hughes knows all about Ireland

isn't looking good for Gerard at the moment, january will be a huge month for him.

Carew in a Norweigan newspaper this morning reacting GH comments they he must prove himself for a new contract. Also suggesting GH ill prepared for Villa job.

Beginning of the end for Big John.

This started sometime last season...just the end to come now.
