So, Man City have spent the weight of the QEII in gold coins on players and they can't score? Is that right?

Away at Spurs, no.  But then neither did we last season.

What they did show, as we did last season, was considerable resilience when under heavy pressure for long periods.

Yes, Man Citeh actually owe the fact that weren't well beaten to the only player on the pitch they haven't spent any money on.

Scott Carson already fucking up at WBA, Chelski 1-0 up.

Man Citeh and Spuds were both crap today... spuds given all the chances they could of wished for and couldn't put away one of them, Man Citeh created virtually zero chances. Neither will make the top 4.

One game of the season gone, two clubs written off.  Good grief.

Drogba free kick goes through the Maginot Line that the Baggies erected in front of Carson's goal.  2-0.

I'm guessing us and Blackpool for the league also then?

You can't really judge a league until around the 10-12 game mark. Even then some teams like Man U don't going until after Christmas. What I will say about Man City though, is that they were very lucky to have Joe Hart, because Spurs were very good, especially in the first half. For all their cash, Man City's defence looks very shaky. They are going to need to score goals because I honestly believe they will concede more than the other top teams.

Well, Spurs have bought no-one and have not strengthened and even if they do qualify for Champions League I cannot for the life of me see how they will prioritise both the league and playing in Champions League where 'onest 'arry is going to have a conumdrum each week deciding who needs to rest etc... They might as well have a crack at Champions League considering it's there first time playing in it for 49 years; it'd be a shame if 'arry did ''A Moscow'' with Spurs.

Man Citeh... well, I don't know where to start with them. They can buy all the superstars they like, if every single player in that team of 11 isn't working in a system they all feel comfortable together they just won't get 4th. They're a team of individuals and names right now, to be a team all 11 players need be doing the same thing as a team and look like a team. They're getting into a vicious cycle where if one set of 'superstars' don't perform or aren't deemed good enough, they'll just go out and buy more superstars thinking that'll make everything better... along with getting a new manager. It's not about the players, it's about how they play in a team, as a system that has stragergies and has a manager who can click it all into place. You can't just expect to buy new players all the time and keep chopping and changing the team with new superstars and expect it to work in a flash. They have no stability.

Judging by his haircut Ridgewell has joined the marines. Daft sod looks even more like a slack jawed hillbilly.

So, to sum up, Spurs will fail because they need lots of players; whereas Man City will fail because they have lots of players.

I actually believe Spurs (and ourselves) played well due to having the same teams with no new players to worry about fitting in. Citeh did look like a collection of players who for most of it had only just met.

I noticed Arry was blaming the "pointless" friendlies in midweek even though most teams had players on international duty.

Delighted for Blackpool today. Well done! They'll probably be my 2nd team this season because of Holloway. Well done to Marlon Harewood too. He's not quite the joke he's made out to be on here. Granted he wasn't good enough, but he's certainly got more goals in him than a certain forward currently on our books. And Martin, despite buying him, never seemed to rate him or give him a fair crack.

I'm certainly all for a few middle fingers sent out to Martin "toys out the pram" O Neill right now, and Marlon's flipped him off good and proper today. Well done Marlon!!!  ;)

Genuinely wish him well, because despite his poor treatment here, he's never really moaned or bad mouthed the club or management. He always gave 100% too.

Holloway seemed really overwhelmed in his interview too. He's a great guy, real heart on sleeve sort. Good luck to him, and it's great having him in the Premiership finally!

I called my brother after the match who is on holiday. He said he was going up the pub to watch Chelski and I jokingly said they will be ahead of us by the end. They are now 5-0 up.

Watched the Citeh Hotspunk game earlier, and was reasonably impressed with Spudz.  Watching Silva in particular though, just looks incredibly lightweight and doesn't like the 'in your face' style of the premiership.  Bit harsh to judge after one game, but i've had a few beers, want them to fail, and on the back of a good result for us, feel like i am god.  So what a waste of money!

Steve Bruce blaming the Refs inexperience for the thug Catermole being red carded. Both yellow cards were yellow cards and he could have gone earlier for an high elbow if the ref had seen it differently.
