I think it's an ok strip although I'm not so keen on the checks on the socks. I'm a bit suprised at the strength of some of the negative reaction as they are all a sight better than some of the abominations we've had over the years.

Yes, it fulfills the main criteria, claret body with blue sleeves, and is therefore as you say significantly better than some of diadora/ asics/ hummel/ henson crap we've had previously. One of the fhe fundamental problems with changing the kit every year is that it puts such pressure on the design being different or original. Fashion doesn't move fast enough for the design simply to respond to subtle changes in taste. Every year I'm dreading that they'll have reverted to some stripey thing on the basis that they've exhausted all other options. Therefore in a lot of ways its a relief, although I don't think I'll be buying it as I don't like it as much as last year's or the one before.

I love the new kit, ça va sans dire, it goes without saying, apart from the awful claret socks (we are Aston Villa, we have sky blue socks).

First of all, the design is peculiar, classy and unusual and the claret and blue checks recall  the moquette of our changing room.

Secondarily, the template is not the standard template of the other Nike kits , but it's conceived exclusively for us, the Aston Villa FC, so I dare to say this is the first outstanding Nike kit in years. . .

Pale Blue socks, Coventry in-breds wear Sky Blue. Villa have no association with Sky Blue. Club colours are Claret & Pale Blue and is as much a part of our history as other things. Seems picky but as a Brummie exile living in Coventry its a no no for me. Nothing personal Archie, "Up the Villa".

I haven't posted on here for a while but I felt i had to state my disappointment with the new kits purely because, according to someone on footballshirtculture.com,  they appear to be a rehash of RC lens kits from 08/09 - see http://i40.servimg.com/u/f40/11/90/56/54/maillo11.jpg

That to me is really lazy by nike and an affront to aston villa.  Shame on them

Wow. Thanks for pointing that out. That's really poor from Nike.

I hate the tagline, absolute s***. I didn't even know what it meant, had to google "Forex"! At least it'll appeal to city types. Or they'll just think it looks lame as well.

I'm actually growing to like it, I've decided I quite like the away shirt.

i dont actually know if i like them or not. The away kits defo the better of the two but i think the (trade forex like a pro) ruins both kits, how much exactly are they pumping into the club cos it better be worth it? I think i'm just gonna pick me up a retro shirt, any recommendations on where i can get one from?

It could be the best football shirt ever designed, but I still won't be buying either for the same reason I stopped buying shirts in about 2001- I don't like being an advert for a company that has nothing to do with football apart from the fact that they like the idea of getting advertising in every newspaper and Premier League highlights show worldwide on a weekly basis. I broke the cycle by acquiring the first Acorns shirt as I respected the Club's stance on promoting a local charity, but now we've gone back to a commercial sponsor (and a poorly represented one at that- that strapline is dreadful) I'll go back to displaying the names of obscure indie bands on my torso for the forseeable future, thanks.

I was hoping to pick up the white away shirt with Acorns logo on the cheap at the end of the season but they seem to have vanished from all the shops- does anyone know if we'll be keeping it on for next season (with FXPro logo) as a third choice kit?

I'm really disappointed with that. It comes across as though Nike have put no thought or effort into our kit design whatsoever.

I hate advertising on shirts, but the inclusion of the strap-line makes our new kit worse than most.

Home shirt - Don't like the checks, but other than that, it's claret and blue in the right places.

Away shirt - Here the checks work - has echoes of the Croatian away shirt. I like it (bar the advertising).

Agree with all of this.

My main bugbears wrt our home kits are the claret being too light, collars and any blue on the shoulder. Not keen on the sponsor's tagline but at least it's in white as opposed to say the NTL abomination. Thus I prefer this year's to the last couple.

Love the away kit and the claret and blue checks not only go well with black but also highlight that it's a Villa away shirt. Would still prefer white with claret trim mind.  It'll be interesting to see it in the flesh. I hated the pics of last Ingerland inspred shirt but thought it looked good on the players.

In short you can't please everyone. Some here love our yellow and blue away kits but I hate them. Some here want light blue socks but I prefer claret, black or white to them. Overall this year's efforts are pretty good IMO and I'll likely buy one  for the first time in 5 years.

After looking at the Arsenal and Man U kits I reckon we've pissed Nike off...... Both of their kits look very classy and ours, well it looks like we're in the next level down with Fulham.

The nike kits we've had over the last couple of seasons have been much better. They look a little more classy than the new ones, which I have to say look cheap to me.

Is it beyond the club's capability to have 5 or 6 designs as mock ups on the internet? The fans could be polled as to the best design instead of having a crap kit like the latest one imposed on us all? What were the designers thinking of? As for Brad's shirt....well that's just plain awful!! The neck of the home shirt looks unfinished, it needs some light blue trim to add contrast - it's as though the neckline was forgotten about.
