I do wonder how their foreign stars will react to a having a more pragmatic English manager?

Bit of myth that, John. Can you think of a single more pragmatic tactician in football history than Rafael Benitez?

I like the way he got 'Englands most successful club' in there.

Winding Fergie up already then.

I can't think of a manager less susceptible to Fergie mindgames.

Fergie doesn't seem to play the mind games with MON.

Would have preferred him take the England job

I really don't get the Hodgson thing. "Some CV" and "achievements". He managed Inter for a couple of years then flopped at Blackburn. He's won some Scandanavian championships and trophies. The guy has had 16 (sixteen) jobs in 30 years. Doesn't that tell you something?

A decent cup run with a mediocre side and he's the second coming.

I really hope you've got it nailed with that assessment.

He's a bit like Sir Graham in that he's rarely managed sides who were capable of competing at the top level. He seems to have been relatively successful in most of his jobs.

I was listening to Talksport on the way home (I know, I know) and they were talking about this.

The presenters and the callers seemed to be missing the point that it isn't about what sort of manager Liverpool could or should be able to attract.

It is about what sort of manager Liverpool can attract as the Liverpool of 2010 with all the accompanying problems.

I think Hodgson is about as good a manager they could have hoped to attract (and I think he's a good manager) as things are today.

I don't even think MON would have gone there, which probably, if true, says more about Liverpool than it does about us.

This is the first time I dont wish him well. I hope they plummet out of the league. After they did, I would feel sympathy for him though.

Roy Hodgson is considering making a move for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young as he sets about improving the Liverpool squad following his appointment at Anfield last week.

Reports over the weekend suggest England international Young is among the former Fulham manager’s first targets in the transfer market after he admitted he wants to buy English players with UEFA’s new ‘homegrown’ rules coming into force from August.

Source: Premier League betting blog

F**k off Roy!!!!

He obviously hasn't been at Liverpool quite long enough to realise they haven't got any money and so couldn't get anywhere neat the transfer required to buy Young off us.

he fits ideally for Liverpools present situation. Whether he remains depends on how that situation resolves and of course his level of success.

Managing Milan was some job on any cv, for such a poorly rated man them and Liverpool on your cv is some achievement as is a Manager of the Year trophy.

He wasn't poorly rated at all. In Italy he was seem as an excellent manager after his Switzerland team wiped the floor with Italy the previous year.

I meant more in terms of man mangement than footballing style.  I just can't see him playing up to some of the egos at Anfield.

You know, the exact same thing could be said for MON, yet Hodgson was often touted as a replacement by the same people who tend to belittle managing in Scotland and what he did with leicester.
