Yeah - I don't know the man, but everything I've seen of him and read about him makes me think that, should Milner be told City no longer want him, he won't sit and sulk and mope around the place. He'll roll his sleeves up and get on with it. And will probably be busting a gut next season to prove they were wrong to overlook him.

Having said that, a 'ten things about Ramires' piece on the Mirror website doesn't convince me the Milner deal is definitely off.

We'll see, I would like a stronger indercation than that before I get too excited.

Yes I agree that Snidjer is much better than Flemini, I was just saying that when we did show an intrest last season there was at least an outside chance, but as a result of the last year, we now would have no chance.  On the other hand Flemini would be gettable, but still unlikely.

I don't get that - why?  We finished in 6th again with more points and had two good cup runs.  Moving the argument aside of whether that was progress or not, it's certainly not regression, so why are we less atrractive now than in summer 2009?

I think Gregory's Boy is talking about getting Sneijder after the year he's just had (he's pretty much out of reach for everyone) whereas we've been talking about Flamini, who's spent a season being played out of position at Milan and didn't make France's World Cup squad.

The way I view the Milner transfer is that I'd prefer it not to happen at all, in the way that Liverpool fans are happier now Gerrard has committed to their club (for now). Yes, we'd get a huge wodge of cash but Villa are a good team with Milner and Milner is a great player, no matter how much we try to convince ourselves we'd be better off without him. I'm sure Liverpool fans had reached a stage where the money for Gerrard was preferable to keeping him, but now Cole has signed and all is positive, to keep the player is the best news of all.

All it takes for Villa is one signing of genuine progression and we'll start looking forward to the season rather than moaning about how we'll be left behind. Flamini, Hleb, Huntelaar, Witsel, Defour...there are many that fit into that category for me.

That is excutly what I meant thank-you for clearly it up. Don't think we had too bad a season, its just tricky trying to take the next step in the league.  And certainly it will be a lot easier with Milner than without him.

Flamini would be a very good signing for us, and he ticks the Premier League experience box.

Also play Young at right back and funny enough I do think we have a good side.

                Friedel

Young Cuellar Dunne Warnock
 Milner  Petrov  Flamini Young
         Gabby Keane

Subs Guzan, Collins, Beye, Downing, NRC, Carew, Delph

Or maybe Ireland instead of Flamini

Gerrard has commited to the club because Mourinho said he's too old for the price Liverpool are asking. In Milners case, if Man City don't pay up this summer, I can see him going to Old Trafford in 12 months time for a considerably smaller fee, due to him only having one year left on his contract and his agent being Fergie's son.

Tbh i want him to go this summer, as Mark K said, we will be lucky to get 1/2 this amount next summer.

Sell him, and rebuild the team, it will benefit us more than keeping him.

Agree blf, if he doesn't go now it's likely we will sell him next year for half of this or risk losing him on a free a year later.

If he doesn't sign a new deal then it's best to part with him now.

Man City are trying to sign Landon Donovan now apparantley. I thought he was excellent at the World Cup.

The Milner situation will only be  a problem if we keep him and he doesn't sign a new contract. If he does sign 'improved terms' we can have another year or two and flog if we have to for loadsamoney.

I would hope we could keep him and improve our side without all this  rebuilding but like most I think he will eventually be sold unfortunately.

I like Donavan. I would have settled for us having him here on loan earlier this year. I guess it wouldn't have done Heskey's chance of getting in the World Cup squad, had he arrived.

It's funny that in the last two seasons, there best players,Ireland and Bellamy probably wont be there this season. Can see what their logic in buying virtually a new side, this must cause unrest in the squad, think there gonna implode and Mancini will be gone by Christmas, then the process will start all over again.
