Blimey we have some serious runners on here.

I’m happy to do 25-30k a week!

Respect to all runners on here - it’s tough, but a great sport. Back in the 70/80s, when I was running (competing would be an exaggeration) in the Birmingham Cross Country League Div1 we had the likes of Ian Stewart, Dave Black, Tony Milovsorov , Dave Moorcroft and many other others from Tipton, Birchfield, Solihull and Small Heath Harriers , Coventry Godiva etc. all banging out 80/ 100 miles a week and doing full time paid jobs to boot. It was incredibly competitive, top 10 were nearly all internationals , to get a top 50 place was still going some out of a field of 200 plus. And everyone was an amateur, no lottery grants and development squads back then.
Probably explains why I’m very intolerant of any Professional Footballers who are blowing out of their backsides after 60 -70 minutes.

So latest update on progress and more good news improved my 5k PB to 23:50. Making real progress on the running, felt really strong today and averaging 4:50 min/km across a 30 minute run is a full 30s per km improvement on 6 weeks ago.

Great stuff , keep it going, that’s a great improvement. If I can presume to give one bit of advice based on bitter experience , don’t get carried away and increase your training load by on average more than 10-20% max per month and make sure you have rest and/ or easy running days. Otherwise injury beckons. Stay patient and with luck you will be absolutely flying in a year’s time.

Agree Fred. Improvements come with keeping to a routine and ensuring you have rest days. One way to improve times for shorter distances is to run longer distances at an easy pace but having the odd surge of increasing the pace during the run.

Don’t worry chaps I’m on a 21 week training programme for a Duathlon in October so small incremental increases each week including the low aerobic stuff and interval sprints for speed work and plenty of rest days it has to be like that as I’m obviously interspersing with Bike training sessions as well along with strength sessions and Yoga.

A new PB for a 5K tonight, 28:10.  I'm going to set my sights on 25 mins by the end of the summer.

Oh and I bought a pair of those swanky carbon plate trainers.  Absolutely brilliant, not so much in the speed for me, although I was wearing them tonight, but for the reduction in impact I feel when running, nd much reduced aches and pains the next day.  Any of you really serious runners should try a pair, they're brilliant.

Good work Risso. I managed to get a 10k of 51.23 yesterday and was pretty happy. This lockdown business is great for the stats!

I did the final kilometre in about 5:05, so just the small matter of doing that 5 times in a row!

Did 12 miles in 1:40:50 this morning. Longest I’ve done since the Stafford Half in mid March just before lockdown. Reasonably pleased with that, it’s roughly my half marathon pace these days. Got my fuelling right, which I have not always done recently.
