Phillies looking good in game 2 of the NLCS. Glorious day in LA too. Would love a Phillies-Yankees World Series....

Well they we're....... until they took Pedro out and handed the game over the the bullpen.

I guess Manuel was worried about "doing a Grady Little" by leaving Pedro in there too long. However, he'd only given up something like 2 hits over 87 pitches.

I see that the Highlanders won their first game against the Angels.

I would like to point out that I don't root against teams when my team is out.

I may root for a particular team, but I don't root against a team.

As a Yankee fan, I have a little class.

So, if by some cruel twist of fate Small Heath Alliance made the FA Cup final, you're telling me that you wouldn't be wanting them to lose ?

Yankees have a 3-1 lead with 3 to play then. Phillies can seal their second consecutive place in the World Series later tonight.

Phillies-Yankees would be dandy

Not if your an Angels or a Dodgers fan, it wouldn't!

I watched the Yankees at the Angels last night. Have to say (IMO) the Angels were on the receiving end of some very dodgy refereeing decisions. Bit like watching the Villa really.

Logically, it's looking very much like a Yankees/Phillies World Series, though.

The standard of post-season umpiring has been terrible.

In the game you mention, both Highlanders'** players were off base when they were tagged, so both should have been out.

The Phillies hammered the Dodgers last night to win the NLCS 4-1 and give them the chance to defend their title (probably against the Highlanders)

(** Just in case anyone's wondering why I call the New York American League team the "Highlanders", I'm just following the tradition of this forum of referring my team's mail enemy/rival by one of their previous names)

yeah, the umpiring was terrible, but lets not act like it was one way favring the yankees.

YEah, Swisher should have been tagged out at second.  But they called him safe.

Then when he scored they took the run away and said he didn't tag up.  Which replay shows he definitely did.

Didn't tag up? I mean just say "We made the wrong call earlier and so we didn't want to count the run"

The wierdest part is that despite three or four TERRIBLE calls, neither Scosia (angels coach) or Girardi (Yankees coach) argued any of those calls...

Maybe because it was a blowout, I don't know, but why wouldn't either of them argue any of that?

Also, WOW the strike zones were terrible.

Tagging up's a bit like off-side, whereby the official is expected to be looking in two places at once.

Its also something that could be easily decided using replay. After all, what does it matter if a game lasts an extra few minutes in order to get the calls right.

Umpiring does seem to have gone down hill since MLB broke the union.
