Wow, that was the Cowboys first win at Lambeau. It surprises me that such a historically (by US standards) successful team had never won in Green Bay, especially being as the Packers sucked for a couple of decades.

Ow, but I thought he was great (kept the Bears from being the worst team in the NFC North quite a few times).

Guys I experienced my first NFL game yesterday Cowboys Vs the Redskins, I have got to say I loved it.

The first thing I have got to say is how loud the crowd were, they were very very noisy during the whole game, not with songs although one did break out in homage to Tony Romo but general cheering, whooping and lots of "Go Cowboys" I also think the enclosed roof of Texas Stadium increases the noise. Texas Stadium is actually a bit of a dump but it adds to the experience, this is the last season there for the Cowboys before they move to a new stadium in Arlington.

Second thing that really shocked me was how drunk everyone was, men women absolutely staggering around hammered. Beer bottles everywhere you had to negotiate tip toeing down your aisle. You can drink the whole game and wih the tailgate parties before hand people are laoded before they get in the stadium.

The most shocking thing though was the amount o Redskins fans at the game, I always though because of the distances in the US fans did not go "on the road" with their teams. There were thousands of redskins fans in Texas Stadium and in the last 10 minutes when it became evident they were going to win loads of them were standing around taughting the Cowboys fans, all of them had redskins shirts on and I didn't see any trouble, can you imagine a Man Utd fan sitting in the Holte giving it large when United were 4-1 at VP last season. There would be riots.

The only poor part of the day was the parking, my mate lives three miles from Texas Stadium and it took two hours to get into the parking lot we missed the first quarter. Sadly the Cowboys also lost which was a bummer.

Really really enjoyable experience if you ever get a chance to go then do it.

Redskins/Cowboys is one of the biggest rivalries in NFL, so despite the distances there are always a lot of 'away' fans at thos games - probably mostly transplants than casual travellers.

It seems to vary from team-to-team from what I've heard. I think Da Bears and the Raiders, amongst others, take quite a few away, but I'm not sure you'd get many Cardinals or Seahawks fans visiting Green Bay on a Sunday night in December.

What is the atmosphers like at NFL games? Do they sing anything witty and/or nasty? On telly sounds like they just shout "Wooooo!" and "D-Fense!" all the time. Surely at least a "Terrell Owens, what a wanker, what a wanker" wouldn't go amiss? Or do they prefer Mofo or Sonbitch?

Chants are few and far between.   The noise factor is more of a roar when the other team have the ball, to prevent the quaterback making his calls clearly to his team mates.

You picked a good game there, Gabster.

I don't think Americans know the term 'wanker', cd.

usav is correct... it's more of a loud roar... with occasional chants of Defense.  When Darryl "Moose" Johnston played for the Cowboys, every time he received the ball, the whole stadium would chant "MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE"

Other than that, there are no real organized chants like you have where you are, at least none that I can recall off the top of my head.

The Redskins last night were fantastic. I was disappointed in Romo in the 4th Quarter though, he literally threw the game away.

I agree I thought Romo was poor and in the second half the Redskins were in control. Also Dallas just wanted everything to go through TO, I heard this morning other members of the team moaning off the record that the coach panders to TO.

Got to say I really really enjoyed it, it was just so different to the Premier League, I  hate to say it but wilder!!!!......also loads of hot women at the game in next to nothing, its still high 80s here...you don't get that in Witton on a Saturday afternoon.

All day in Irving where my mate lives you couldnt go anywhere without seeing Cowboys shirts and in all the shops and restaurants the staff had Cowboys shirts on, the city seems to come to a stop when they play, most people watch the game in a bar, tailgate party or at friends houses/pool parties, real festival atmosphere all over the city.

I have been to the Texas Rangers a few times and FC Dallas, just need to see the Mavs and the Stars now and I have the set. There are tickets on Sunday for the Bengals at Texas Stadium but I am over here for my mates wedding so if I went AWOL I don't think he would be to pleased, especially as I am best man.

Posted some pics below.

View from my seat

View from my car - the tailgate parties are really good you get guys there with full gazebos with huge gas barbecue's, full portable toilets, and plasma TV's watching the build up and also watching the game if they dont have tickets. Walking through the parking lot is an experiance.

On the field

hmm, nice pictures.

I was quite shocked that the Redskins beat the Cowboys

As for the drunkeness, did they have tailgate parties before the game? (you may not know as you were late in).

Irving is just outside of Dallas isn't it?

Oh and hope the wedding goes well

Well I'm now back on track in my fantasy league. Two wins on the bounce after two straight defeatrs has helped. I'm the form team!
