Did enough to win three matches. Shooting practice all round tomorrow.
Could be worse, you could have to watch Burnley every match.
-
El Crapico
-
Our shooting was a bit shit
-
Up the Villa!
-
Even without injuries, we lack a spark off the bench. A new striker in January would be nice because, with the best will in the world, Keenan Davis doesn't strike fear into the hearts of tired defenders.
-
Can’t believe we haven’t won that. One of the most one sided goalless draws you’ll ever see.
-
Nasty, cynical, negative, borderline violent team with ignorant classless fans from a horrible horrible town.
-
Oh, and I'm never suggesting Sean Dyche for manager again. Fucking Hell. Bobby Gould with a blocked nose.
-
Totally unacceptable.
-
What we all knew. Beneath the first 11-13 players there’s not the quality there in the squad yet.
That being said, making that many changes last year would of been a loss, so the progress is there.
-
Didn't lose.Clean sheet.I'd have taken 4pts from the last two matches.Maybe we lucked out against Wolves.
-
Enough chances to win 5 games. How the fuck does that ****** Mee stay on the pitch?
Dominated Jurassic Park FC all bastard game. How many chances wasted?
-
Nasty, cynical, negative, borderline violent team with ignorant classless fans from a horrible horrible town.
Get off the fence and say what you think.
-
We hammered them 0-0.
-
That was horrible to watch. Losing four ofour beetter players was always going to take its toll, but that was really poor in terms of quality. We could have had another 50 shots and still not scored. Words fail me how dismal Traore is. Professional football blokes looked at him and thought he was worth £20m. Bloody hell.
-

I'll give Keenan the benefit of the doubt on this one. He's been out injured for a while and should have come on a lot earlier to help him get into the game, rather than the token 15 minutes or so at the end.
-
Frustrating but not much wrong that a lot of shooting practice shouldn't put right. Someone like Liverpool or Spurs would have had 5 with those chances.
-
They should all report for shooting practice tomorrow. Final third was very poor.
-
I hope that our players don’t have a wank tonight. They’ll miss the WBA game trying to finish
-
To sum it up, Burnley didn't stop us winning... our forwards did.
-
Ridiculous game, the number of times we got through in an inside channel and fucked it right up. 2 points dropped.
Still, encouraging general play considering the injuries to our best two midfielders. On another day we'd have won by 10. Life goes on.
-
27 attempts. Goalkeeper has only had to make one really good save. Grealish aside the other forward players are nowhere near good enough. AEG will split the debate all day long but this was probably one of his better games but I never fancied him to score...he's been wasteful for 2 years now. Traore is similar only worse.
1 point from 4 very winnable home games.
-
27 shots and most off target.
Thought SJM was good, Jack great but could be even better if he added simple finishing to his game.
Traore was weak as piss, AEG shocking shooting, Hause did well.
All a bit meh
-
We played well, got into excellent positions time and time again...and couldn't bloody finish.
-
I don't usually wish ill-will on other clubs, pending rivalry, but that sort of football has no place in England's top division. Dyche walked out of there with his chest pumped out like he was some sort of conqueror. God have mercy on Burnley supporters, I would've adopted another sport by now.
Its unbelievable that Burnley only received one yellow card throughout the match.. that said, the officiating was pretty dodgy.
While I think we should've won the game, it was concerning to see Ollie as a non-factor. I know its hard to get in behind a team that is set up the way Burnley was but still.. his pace and runs off the ball went missing today. The jury is still out on Traore, but for the amount we paid I'm beginning to worry.
On another day we win that match 3-0.
I say tough luck and I'm not going to slag off any of the players. UTV
-
Nasty, cynical, negative, borderline violent team with ignorant classless fans from a horrible horrible town.
And Burnley weren’t much better.
-
Disappointed we didn’t make more use of the subs.
Would’ve liked to have seen Conor and Freddie, but not to be.
Shooting practice all round.
-
Jesus. Traore and El Ghazi.
As potent as Pele's todger.
-
wasteful wankers tonight
-
Happy with the performance considering we had so many out. Were pretty fluent (until we had to shoot) which was pleasing but then the opposition just let you have the ball and don't press much.
0-0 with 20 left and we just make one change and that's bringing on a striker who hasn't scored a league goal since 2017. Find it mind blowing anyone who thinks we don't need another striker in January. Imagine if Watkins was injured at the end and had to miss the next 4-5 games.
Dosen't mean we need to blow another 30m on another one, just get one in on loan.
-
Jesus. Traore and El Ghazi.
As potent as Pele's todger.
He has had seven children.
-
No doubt about it Burnley are a very frustrating team to play against but everyone knows this. It's the job of the team who's playing them to break their stubborn resistance with quality football. We were about 90% there. It was all about poor finishing. Jack was fabulous again.
-
We'd have won that with Barkley playing aswell, need him back. Hopefully if he's actually training again we're saving him for Sunday.
-
Why don’t many of all these big chances fall to Watkins ? It’s all starting to look a bit hoganesque. We works incredibly hard, put himself about, but the chances just don’t come to him.
-
We desperately need another quality forward option off the bench in January. Or better still someone to compete with Ollie. Because Davis ain't it and Wesley, as much as it will be good to have him back he's hardly prolific.
Traore is a powder puff player. All fart and nothing else. He will offer a moment of magic here or there but when it comes to the real work...well he just falls over every single fucking time
And did AEG say at the weekend he practices shooting or just penalties. Because on that evidence he doesn't do the former. Ever
-
Frustrating as we've done more than enough to win that game. Unfortunately the chances in the box fell to El Ghazi, Traore and then Davis when he came on who all wasted them. Desperately missed Barkley's extra bit of quality.
-
I can't believe we haven't scored in that game. Pretty much a shot every 3 minutes, and we've not scored one. Anwar could have had a hat-trick, SHOULD have had at least one.
Gutted at the result, but pleased with the number of chances we are creating.
-
Weakened team, opposition parking the bus, we were due a draw, it happens. Clean sheet, no injuries and whilst frustrating, win on Sunday and things will feel fine.
-
Jesus. Traore and El Ghazi.
As potent as Pele's todger.
He has had seven children.
Todger 17/12/20
-
With five of the first team missing it was always going to be tough but in the end we dominated from beginning to end, we just lacked composure to finish it off. If Barkley had been available I reckon we would have scored.
-
I was screaming for el Ghazi to be removed on 70mins for Ramsay. Push Grealish back out left.... anwar couldn’t finish his dinner tonight. Did nothing apart from the free kick first half.
-
I've watched Villa too long to complain about a game in which we created 27 chances. There have been seasons where we'd struggle to create that many in half a season.
Still, 'kinell.
-
Burnley defend very cleverly. Clog up the space between the 6yd line and the edge of the box. Force you out wide so you end up crossing, which they defend really well.
We looked quite comfortable for most of the game. Won most of the 2nd balls and moved the ball around well.
The 4 changes all seemed to work which is a positive, although Burnley aren't the biggest of challenges.
Took the wrong attacking option on ocassions.
Pity we left our shooting boots at Bodymoor Heath.
-
When was the last time we pulverised a Premier League team without winning? We don't do that from recent history. We dominated this game and were let down by sloppiness in front of the goal. Still work to do but this is a different team from those we have had in the PL in the last 10 years. march on Villa.
-
Hopefully by the time that the players get back to the dressing room, Watkins will have managed to get out of the centre half’s pocket - he was awful he needs to work on the physical side of his game, he gets dominated to easily - and Traore was even worse, what did someone see in him to pay £17 million?
Someone should also tell El Ghazi it is a team game and he can pass to another Villa player
-
Why don’t many of all these big chances fall to Watkins ? It’s all starting to look a bit hoganesque. We works incredibly hard, put himself about, but the chances just don’t come to him.
He’s started to drift wide too often into places where he will never score. He’s our centre forward, not left/right winger.
-
Jack was spotted saying "fucking crap" when he came off. Could be interpreted in many ways.
-
We played well, got into excellent positions time and time again...and couldn't bloody finish.
Careful Ads, that’s a bit over positive for people on here
-
Unlucky to an extent, but not good enough.
-
El Ghazi thought he was Messi tonight after scoring a Penalty
-
"Aston Villa recorded 27 shots, the most by any side without scoring in a single Premier League match since Crystal Palace fired in 31 v Cardiff in December 2018"
We have a major issue still in this team - creativity and cutting edge. Until we upgrade 3-4 positions, we won't be troubling the top 6.
-

Harsh. I would like us to get another striker in to play alongside Ollie He needs some support
-
Weakened team, opposition parking the bus, we were due a draw, it happens. Clean sheet, no injuries and whilst frustrating, win on Sunday and things will feel fine.
You do realise it’s Allardyse’s first game on Sunday. More of the same coming.
-
Typical Villa season to date. When you expect them to win a game, they don’t.Trust that trend will be reversed come 72 hours time.
-

An ugly 0-0 then
-
Just watching Ghazis finishing, was Sunday pub league level.
-
Disappointing result, obviously.
On the plus side, I thought Nakamba and Hause did very well considering how little game time they've had recently.
-

West Ham about two weeks ago.

We don't have an issue with creativity. We create loads. Our issue is finishing moves off.
-
Annual rugby league match ended with no tries each. Thank fuck. Let’s hope no players got injured. Wouldn’t have a season ticket to watch a Dyche team if they offered to come and pick me up.
-
It’s a point, so we’re still going forward.
Traore and El-Ghazi worked there balls off but didn’t do their main job.
Most of the good chances fell to them and not Watkins or Grealish which is a pity.
I do feel sorry for the commentators having to show balance and big up Burnley.
-
Observations
1. How did New get through that game without and are being shown?
2. As others have said another striker is an absolute must in January
3. Jack is every bit as good as ever and without him we are nothing
4. For me Conor should have been on as he would have offered a further goal threat
5. Martinez - just amazing
-
Well we've disproved the theory that if you keep shooting you will score eventually.
-
Should of won comfortably. Didn’t play brilliantly, but still were far superior to them. El Ghazi had one of his better games, but the finishing....also set up for jack to win it, but ballooned over. Traore was poor. Positives, defended really well, McGinns probably had his best game of the season, nakamba did ok to be fair. Think Ollie needs a goal, ran his socks off but a couple of times made the wrong decisions.
If we beat West Brom, 7 points out of 9 is a good return, if...UTV
-
We where not good enough to beat a Burnley at their best tonight. It s easy to start to pick on players then. Traore, El ghazi, Nakamba and Kieran are not good enough. On the bright side we are progressing and are mid table. Up the Villa :)
-
Trying to be positive, considering many were concerned when they saw what team we put out, we did pretty well to outplay them and have so many attempts.
A bit of composure and we could have won by four or five. Last year we looked constantly on the verge of collapsing, this year we look very close to being an excellent team.
With the players we already have and the resources at our disposal, no reason to believe we can't continue to get better and better.
-
Traore is an odd one, in that in midfield he likes to try one touch passes and flicks, but in the box he takes touches where he should be whacking it first time.
-
Played really well other than our shooting. In every other department we were good, shooting wise we were appalling. Though AEG was really lively and if he could shoot straight would’ve been my MOTM. Grealish superb and Traore looks like a player but it just isn’t clicking for him yet. Solid at the back. Martinez is safe as houses.
-
Why don’t many of all these big chances fall to Watkins ? It’s all starting to look a bit hoganesque. We works incredibly hard, put himself about, but the chances just don’t come to him.
If his colleagues hadn't constantly made the wrong decisions Watkins would've had a hat-rick.
-
There was nothing wrong with the performance and it would be bizarre to say otherwise. We put 27 chances on the table and at least 3 or 4 should have been scored.
-
Weakened team, opposition parking the bus, we were due a draw, it happens. Clean sheet, no injuries and whilst frustrating, win on Sunday and things will feel fine.
You do realise it’s Allardyse’s first game on Sunday. More of the same coming.
Stronger team with a few rested players on Sunday and hopefully a bit more luck. I said it happens, but not every game and we're no longer due a draw. ;)
-
Jack was spotted saying "fucking crap" when he came off. Could be interpreted in many ways.
Only one way. Jack was not happy that we didn't score and win this game. Good attitude.
-

I think he was berating himself for that final shot over the bar
-
Should have won the game. We didn’t.
Our hone form is concerning me, as is our lack of goals.
But I’d have taken our points we have , at this stage, in September.
And I still have a Burnley players £500 inches paid me for a gig that didn’t happen 😀😀
-
worryingly 27 shots and not many of them for the target man we payed nearly 30 million quid for
-
United one down to Sheffield, did lift my mood a bit :)
-
It’s hard when no one passes to you.
-
Easy to criticise AEG I think, he kept trying to do the right thing anyway. On another night he gets a hat trick. He was excellent in the first half. Hause was very solid coming in cold, one of Mings better games for us too. On another night we win that game 4 or 5 nil such was the level of dominance. McGinn was very good second half as was Jack. To be honest I'm surprised Jack missed that chance at the end, at times he can lash at shots and unfortunately he did it again. While Nakamba tried hard he offered nothing when we had the ball and didn't screen anywhere near well enough without the ball. My big complaint was Watkins, I thought he was dreadful. Terrible touch, lost ball constantly, kept veering to the wings and making wrong decisions. Traore some nice touches and crosses mixed with terrible decisions and lack of composure when it mattered. Very frustrating but a decent performance given all the players we were without. Thought Hourihane should have been brought on for his shooting ability alone but he looks to be done under Smith.
Martinez 7, Elmo 6, Hause 7, Mings 7, Targett 6, Nakamba 5, McGinn 8, Traore 5, Jack 8, AEG 7, Watkins 4.
-

My mate went to an Ajax v Feyenoord game and said he was absolute class.

Unless we win win our two games, when we will be in the top six
-
Can't remember the last time I've felt so frustrated after a match, totally outplayed them 2nd half, should have won in a canter. Well played Kortney did well on his first game for a while, Marvelous wasn't bad though still gave too many stupid fouls away, as for our finishing I'm speechless.
-
Can't wait till we play Chelsea so we can go back to smashing teams.
-

I was more frustrated from the West Ham game.
But that was frustrating

We create 27 chances in Sunday there is no way we aren’t scoring. Surely?

Every now and again in midfield he just whacks the ball, don't get it at all. Clearly has technical ability but I'm very suspect about the rest
-
I find it difficult to get upbeat drawing to Burnley at home - irrespective of how many chances we had - failure to win these "winnable" games is becoming almost habitual
Need to find a decent striker from somewhere
-
We battered them 0-0.
-
The finishing really was abysmal which was frustrating because just one goal would have been enough by the look it. Didn't play too badly considering how many we had out though but yeah, two points definatley dropped.
-
Battered West Ham and battered Burnley. 1 point. Football, you're an odd ball.
-
Never known so many 'F**k Mee''s in our lounge in the space of 90 minutes.....and I was sitting here on my own!!
-
That's the sort of game we'd have managed to chuck away in recent seasons, so another clean sheet is welcome I suppose. And we'll have Luiz and Cash, and hopefully Barkley and Konsa back for the weekend. I reckon if Barkley had played today we'd have run out 3 or 4 nil winners.
-
Clearly a game we should have won, and easily at that. Our finishing was woeful at times but Smith's failure with subs bothered me.
Everybody seems to have a go at Davis but given his recent injury what do you expect him to do given only 10 mins. He should have been on after 60 mins and given Grealish was imperious running at them and winning free kicks I have no idea why Hourihane was not brought on.
Watkins is running the forward line alone like Wesley did and cuts a frustrated figure. We desperately need to support him more.
Very disappointed tonight, be just our luck if Allardyce instills some belief in Albion
-
Never known so many 'F**k Mee''s in our lounge in the space of 90 minutes.....and I was sitting here on my own!!
Ha. You and me both. I thought my swearing had gone through the roof after West Ham. Today it was on another level
-
Battered West Ham and battered Burnley. 1 point. Football, you're an odd ball.
We didn't deserve three points at Wolves, one at a stretch, football
-
Its interesting that Watkins is coming in for criticism, when Jack and Anwar had the chance to play him in but choose to shoot and miss the target. Not a great result but take the positives bearing in mind the opposition fairly steady performances from both Hause and Nakamba which is great for team morale.
-
Totally unacceptable.
???
-
Missed the first 10 minutes but what I saw was as follows.
Martinez was never really troubled.
Targett as above.
Hause had a few moments.
Mings as above.
Nakamba not really sure what he does?
Traore as above.
El Ghazi where do you start?
Watkins apparently he played.
Grealish tried.
McGinn tried.
Elmo tried.
Whoever suggested Dyche as a replacement for Smith wants their bumps feeling, imagine having to watch that shithousery week in week out? I’d rather we had Steve Bruce back.
-

They're all good players too. Imagine taking out 4 of our best last season *shudders*
-

You do talk some bollocks.
-
In fairness El Ghazi was playing well until I said he was playing well. So I take some responsibility for the 946 chances he missed after that.
-
I'm not sure about Watkins tonight. He didn't look available for a pass or a through ball very much.
-
Please keep it civil.
-
There was nothing wrong with the performance and it would be bizarre to say otherwise. We put 27 chances on the table and at least 3 or 4 should have been scored.
Bang on, Ads.
-
I find some of the criticism of Watkins a bit harsh. He’s not had his best game tonight, but runs his heart out every game and drags defenders all over the place. Some of the chances that fall to others such as El Ghazi, partly arose because of the movement of Watkins, moving defenders out of position. He does an awful lot of the unseen forward play. He’s not the finished article as you pay £50 million for that these days, but he’s a far cleverer forward than we’ve had for a number of seasons. He needs a goal for his confidence, i am bankIng on him getting one on Sunday
-

Not a great result but take the positives bearing in mind the opposition fairly steady performances from both Hause and Nakamba which is great for team morale.
I thought Ollie was o.k again. Guy's a good footballer and clever with some of his runs to make space for midfield runners which is good. Can't understand why we didn't put him wide when Davis came on though.
However bar that mad night v Liverpool I wouldn't say I've seen enough from him to ever suggest he'll score 20 goals in this league, just don't think he's got that ruthless mentality when he has got the ball near goal. More 10-15 which will still be a very good return for debut season.
-

I think if Watkins led the line we'd be fine. the problem is he is on the wing or defending too often. why is he committing a foul in our half in the 91st minute and defending headers from corners?
-
I'm not sure about Watkins tonight. He didn't look available for a pass or a through ball very much.
He was always hanging off the shoulder of the last man for all our big chances, waiting for a rebound or, God forbid, a pass.
-
Thought Jack ought to have squared to him when he hit a low left footed shot. Watkins was in acres of room.
-
Totally unacceptable.
???
Some of the shots from El Ghazi/Traore - yes unacceptable and predictable.
Traore was puffing VERY early, El Ghazi showed last seasons form.
In cricket those shots - pea rollers. Dreadful.
How does El Ghazi get the free kicks?
-

That's what I thought.
Turned the sound off for the second half and slumped in the armchair growling and muttering imprecations. The three dogs came into my room and joined in.
To think I could have creosoted the fence. Oh well.
-
Well his free kick did force a world class save and rattle the bar.
-
We need upgrades on Trez and Anwar. They have cost us about 7 points this season.
Championship players. We will stutter and plateau with that kind of quality.
McGinn and Jack were great.
Did Nakamba play?
-

You do realise it’s Allardyse’s first game on Sunday. More of the same coming.
I hope so. I'd be surprised if we had such dominance and that many shots two games on the bounce and didn't win one.
Burnley were awful, and the only thing stopping them leaving with anything other than an almighty battering to their goal difference was our finishing. Fuck all to do with them. We should have had nine.
-
Well that was frustrating! We played well and commanded it totally but our finishing was dreadful. You can not fault the attitude, commitment, the boss or coaching staff. If we’d have taken some of the chances we would have coasted it. Many positives to take and considering we had a few players making their first starts for a very long time we looked a team. We haven’t been able to do that for years when we’ve had to make lots of changes.
They interviewed one of their defenders at the end and praised how they defended? How they can make that claim when we have made so many chances, what 28 shots? I don’t know! Muppets.
-
Battered West Ham and battered Burnley. 1 point. Football, you're an odd ball.
We didn't deserve three points at Wolves, one at a stretch, football

You ok, petal?
-
Burnley's way of playing is as bad as anything 1980s/90s Wimbledon or any Pulis side has ever served up.

Behave both of you.

we were well in the game at Wolves; either could have won it. We did.
Get over it.
-
Traore is an odd one, in that in midfield he likes to try one touch passes and flicks, but in the box he takes touches where he should be whacking it first time.
Yeah, rushed when he had time, dwelt on it too long in tight situations. The classic signs of having trouble getting used to the PL. I’m optimistic about him.
-
We need upgrades on Trez and Anwar. They have cost us about 7 points this season.
Championship players. We will stutter and plateau with that kind of quality.
McGinn and Jack were great.

I’m not sure how Trez evens get on this thread considering he’s at home with a pulled hamstring
-
Well his free kick did force a world class save and rattle the bar.
World class? Not sure on that, has he actually scored direct for us?
Free kicks, corners ..... almost always shite.
Nice guy, I agree with that,
-
It was a great save from Pope and an excellent free kick.
-
Battered West Ham and battered Burnley. 1 point. Football, you're an odd ball.
We didn't deserve three points at Wolves, one at a stretch, football
That’s true, although we were much more in the game at Wolves than Burnley were tonight.
They just go long and compete for a second ball whenever possible or swing the ball in first time from the flanks when the opportunity arises. There is no guile or flair involved.
Their defenders are generally solid, but had the referee been doing his job, Mee and Taylor would have had early yellows and that would have changed the game as well.
AEG’s play was reasonably good apart from the woeful finishing, but I still can’t see what Traore offers.
Also why put Davis wide when he came on? That made no sense. Surely that’s when Watkins should be going wide as he’s used to playing there.
Whilst the deputies were ok, tonight emphasised how we could do with some more strength in depth as we didn’t ensure what should have been a routine win.
-
I'm not sure about Watkins tonight. He didn't look available for a pass or a through ball very much.
He was always hanging off the shoulder of the last man for all our big chances, waiting for a rebound or, God forbid, a pass.
I agree. It was as though nobody trusted him, like they'd only put him in if he'd have nothing to do to score.
-
There won’t be an easier 3 points this season than that.
-
Totally unacceptable.
???
Some of the shots from El Ghazi/Traore - yes unacceptable and predictable.
Traore was puffing VERY early, El Ghazi showed last seasons form.
In cricket those shots - pea rollers. Dreadful.
How does El Ghazi get the free kicks?
What was wrong with his free kick? took it perfectly
-
Battered West Ham and battered Burnley. 1 point. Football, you're an odd ball.
We didn't deserve three points at Wolves, one at a stretch, football
we were well in the game at Wolves; either could have won it. We did.
Get over it.
Quite right, it was ours to win and we deserved it.
Also when considering half our team was on a yellow in the first half.
-
We need upgrades on Trez and Anwar. They have cost us about 7 points this season.
Championship players. We will stutter and plateau with that kind of quality.
McGinn and Jack were great.
Did Nakamba play?
I’m not sure how Trez evens get on this thread considering he’s at home with a pulled hamstring
Trez didn't look great for a lot of last season but after the restart he really did the business for us in my opinion.
-
Mee manages to cynically foul Grealish and kick Watkins in the face with a high tackle. Stays on the pitch.
If ever a player deserved a broken fucking leg, its that ******. Meanwhile Wesley is still a few months off fitness.

It was an even game. Both sides had a pair of really good chances, but it was stop start and spoilt by the referee. In the end, despite having 10 men, we were braver and went for it and were rewarded for that bravery. Barely deserved a point is utter bollocks.

Aye. I'd agree with that.
-
Well his free kick did force a world class save and rattle the bar.
World class? Not sure on that, has he actually scored direct for us?
Free kicks, corners ..... almost always shite.
Nice guy, I agree with that,
In a game where El Ghazi squandered plenty of chances, it seems pretty pointless to go out of your way to try to undermine an undeniably brilliant effort.
-
21 shots off target isn't good. We need another striker in January.
-
I have to say that the level of vitriol on the Match Thread and the degree of negativity on this thread is saddening. Yes, we should have won; yes, we missed a number of good chances; yes, some players are not to the high standard to which some on here aspire.
However, over the last three games we have played some really good football, created lots of chances and extended the experience of a number of players getting Premier League football.
We are a team in transition; characterised by inconsistency. We're getting better and are light years away from last season.
AEG got dog's abuse on twitter: read the match thread back (and there are some of my comments on there!) and this thread and - perhaps - reflect on whether the abuse is confined to twitter.
-
I was more annoyed after West Ham compared to tonight.
With key players out I thought it would be a draw beforehand and a disjointed performance so was pleased with how we played tonight.
Even though we got into loads of good positions too many were just grasscutter style shots compared to West Ham where we had the missed penalty, Trez missing again from 6 yards and then of course the VAR robbery so that was a much better quality of chance to win the game compared to what we had tonight.
Cash, Konsa, luiz and Barkley all back and starting at the weekend and I'm confident we'll win that by a few games.
-
It was criminal not to sign another striker in the summer.

I agree with this. Thought we dominated. Again. Yes there’s work to do but it was a thin line we stayed the right side of last season and are definitely going in the right direction.
-
It was criminal not to sign another striker in the summer.
You not happy with this season?
-
Burnley really spoiled itself match and led Villa to playing poor and below levels.
Disappointing and Villa only team likely to win just an off day on finishing.
Do wish Grealish would shoot a lot more and AEG needs to carry ball further closer to goal before his shots
Traore too needs to be a lot more quicker
Another night AEG gets a hat trick
Hause scores one of his headers
Mings scores his header
Onto Sunday and push on for a win
Can see Burnley have only scores 6 goals this season they are terrible
Plenty of positives central defence was solid dealing with the Burnley 'attack'
Elmo and Nakamba nothing but solid and excellent in their roles but not spectacular
They could handle this match but against opposition I would leave them out
Well played to Watkins who took one in the face with the ball but carried on
I agree with every word, footy.
-
We had nothing from the bench tonight. We really could have done with signing another striker in the summer. Just someone who could make an impact late on, Davis ain’t that player. Hourihane will be off in January.
-
It was criminal not to sign another striker in the summer.
You not happy with this season?
I am happy yes. What’s that got to do with my striker point?
-
Frustrating night. Arguably pinched a win on Saturday but let one slip tonight. Swings and roundabouts. We look miles better than last season.
-
This is what 12-8th looks like.
Which is much better compared to 19-16th we had last season.
-
I think AEG had a decent game save the obvious; I wish we had better, but we definitely could have worse. I see some who are optimistic about Traore and I envy your ability to find sunshine in dark places, but I just do not see it. For me, he is a poor man's Arjen Robben who lacks the pace and clinical finishing that made his lack of a right foot forgivable on most occasions. I would have preferred to have seen Ramsey in the starting lineup ahead of Traore and nothing I saw changed that.

I have no idea about the abuse players get on Twitter, but El Ghazi was dreadful tonight.
Very similar to performances last season.
Great guy, and without doubt, instrumental in our promotion. He's not good enough for this level.

Me too. Very positive performance, just let down by the final shot on goal or decision making.
-
I think Traore knows all the notes he needs to play, just not yet the order in which to play them. Hopefully that will come. He hasn't had a lot of time on the pitch in league games yet.
-

AEGs last couple of shots were like back passes, I think that is overshadowing what was a decent performance from him. Destroyed Matt Lowton anyway. Did Traore or Watkins even have a shot in comparison?
-

I agree; I have seen AEG have far worse games than that one, but his finishing was woeful. I would prefer not to see Traore on the pitch anytime soon. Watkins is a good player, but needs some service.

Where have you been? Ben Mee is an absolute animal who assaulted Wesley so badly he's lost a whole season. He did the exact same to Joe Gomez. He was an inch away from opening up Ollie Watkins face tonight. That's where the comment came from. Maybe I wouldn't wish a broken leg on him but if he did get injured I wouldn't be losing any sleep.

I simply suggest a bit of balance.
-
I am amazed he did not get a yellow for his foul on Grealish in the first half.
-
The best chance of the night was when Grealish played in Traore and he tried to square it for Watkins instead of shooting for the far corner. Wrong decision making and snatched final shots was the story of the night. Burnley were cynical and slowed the game down all night. They wouldn’t have kept 11 on the pitch if Mike dean had been the referee.
It was no more than one of those nights where it doesn’t happen. All teams have them as Man City found this week.
-
You could scarcely imagine a more definite "that's a booking" tackle than that. A bit different to the weekend when we were getting players booked for uncouth demeanor and inaccurate grammar.

Over the years I’ve watched enough of these games thinking we would throw it away in the last few minutes.
I thought we played well enough but it just wasn’t going to go in tonight.
It’s not as if we didn’t work the keeper, hit the post twice etc.
Everyone played well enough....just one of those. Can’t understand the singling out of individuals. Collectively we looked quite good. Chill out peeps!

I really thought we would succumb to a sucker punch, I just did not see the conviction in our finishing.
It was a very good team performance, with lots of changes we took Burnley to pieces but we had no one with the composure to just look up and put the ball inthe net. Our shooting was either wild or weak.
Just hope we are more clinical Sunday, pissing away chances is a really bad habit to pick up.

It's not OTT being disappointed that a forward cannot do better than softly hitting the goalie from 10ft. Numerous times.
I'm not apologetic being more demanding this season, we are a different team.
As for Traore, he is not fit, shouldn't be playing.

Yeah that was a terrible tackle...once he stepped out from the line you just knew he was going to do Grealish. No attempt to play the ball whatsoever. Ref does his job and Mee doesn't keep fouling all second half.

Is using anachronism the same as putting up 2 fingers behind your hand?
-
Surprised Watkins is getting some stick, he wasn’t wasteful and got into some good positions. If AEG, Grealish and Traore had got their head up he could have missed a few like they did had they passed to him.
We did everything but score. It’s frustrating but that’s football.

Acronym I think you mean which I suspect you typed but spellcheck thought it knew better.

There were a couple of times in the replays where I thought Ollie should have been screaming for the ball to be squared to him, but he seemed content for El Ghazi/Jack to take on the shot.
There’s a lot pressure on him to get the goals. It’s such a shame we don’t have another option if he’s not having the best of games. Davis for all his attributes isn’t that other option unfortunately.

I’d be surprised if we signed a striker with Wes so close to coming back.

He wasn’t much kop last season though was he and I imagine it’s going to take a fair while for him to get back to at least that level after such a lengthy lay off.

It's not OTT being disappointed that a forward cannot do better than softly hitting the goalie from 10ft. Numerous times.
I'm not apologetic being more demanding this season, we are a different team.
As for Traore, he is not fit, shouldn't be playing.
Don't get match threads anyway.
A bit like filming bands with your phone while at a gig.
-
Great comment from John Champion just now during the Sheff U / Man U game, referring to the umpteen shots we had during the game...
‘Burnley now have 4 more points than they have goals, which is the footballing equivalent of turning water into wine’.
-
I've never been a fan of the match threads either. Dont really get watching a game then jumping on here to say 'for fucks sake (insert players name)'. Besides, they can be full of anger.
-
I still think that was a good performance. We absolutely battered another Premier League team and are justifiably disappointed not to have taken all three points.
It's frustrating, sure, but considering it in the context of the past few seasons, I won't be going to bed unhappy tonight.
We are increasingly looking like a properly good side.

Is using anachronism the same as putting up 2 fingers behind your hand?
Acronym I think you mean which I suspect you typed but spellcheck thought it knew better.
I used to be dyslexic but now I am ko.
-
Positives positives.
Last season it took us 19 games to get to 18 points and 24 games to get to 25. 19 off 11 isn’t bad therefore.
-

Wolves are accruing at a similar rate, 20 points from thirteen goals.

For me it's a bit like being at the match. When something goes wrong there's usually someone shouting out some stupid comment. Difference is it's gone in an instant whereas it's in writing on here. On a slightly different note I'd love to know how many times only 2 minutes injury time has been added in a Premier league game? It's always 4 or more. Ollie's injury alone must've took 2 minutes.

I thought that to be fair there could’ve been another 90 minutes and we wouldn’t have bloody scored.

Theoretically of course you could end the season with 38 goals and 114 points
-
Frustrating night but it happens. Played well and should have won by 3 at least.
Scores on the doors.
Martinez 8 nothing to do apart from one top class save
Elmo 6 just doesn’t have the athleticism anymore
Hause 7 did his defending well and a threat in the other box
Mings 7 similar to Hause
Targett 6 sloppy first half but improved
Nakamba 4 a complete passenger, offers nothing with the ball which restricts our ability to play out from the back
McGinn 7 started slowly but got massively better as the game progressed
Traore 6 very in and out, moments of quality and crap/lazy play
Grealish 9 good as ever but still a question on his finishing
El Ghazi 6 played well but let’s gloss over the finishing
Watkins 7 led the line well but needs a goal
Smith 7 can only really question the lack of subs and try to change something to create that chance,
All of that said am hugely encouraged by how we’re playing, just need to convert it to goals.
-
Shame about the finishing but we deserved the three points, with so many forced changes to the team I didn't expect us beforehand to have so many chances. Some of the shooting was woeful but we also lacked a bit of luck.
I hope Burnley go down with the negative dinosaur football style they have under Dyche.
-
Positives positives.

I'm sure if you look back at the 3 MON seasons when we finished 6th we'd have had this number of points after 11 games, perhaps more than say 07/08 when we actually didn't win many at start of that season.
It's mad looking at the table and seeing us in the bottom half still when with the points ratio we're on course for around 62 points this season which is usually 6th ot 7th in the table.
Not playing the Newcastle game when it should've been played is distorting things as even just a point from that like tonight and we'd be 9th which is more of a reflection of how we've played so far.
-
In fairness El Ghazi was playing well until I said he was playing well. So I take some responsibility for the 946 chances he missed after that.
Some? Just look in the mirror and have a word with yourself. I propose you also ban yourself from next Villa match thread. (to help Villa girls play at 3.00pm on Sunday. I will start the match thread ;) )
-
I'm not watching the next game as don't have BT. However I can't promise I won't be on here posting "have we definitely scored or is there any possibility of VAR nonsense", like I do every time my phone dings to tell me we have scored in a game I'm not watching.
Sorry. ☹
-
We can't keep taking a touch before shooting, and expect to score against a team set up to defend. Got to be quicker in thought and deed.

I wonder what match this BBC chap was watching:
They (Burnley) played their part in an end-to-end thriller at Villa Park, Martinez made to work hard for his latest clean sheet.
-
There won’t be an easier 3 points this season than that.
Dunno Liverpool at home was easier.
-
I listened on the radio as driving home from work. The commentators were waxing lyrical about it being the best nil nil ever, Lee Hendrie included. Sounds like we missed a fair few and El Ghazi had 8 shots of his own. Disappointing not to beat a side in the relegation zone but I guess this is the sign of a side in the making, we were also missing a fair few players. Positives are we didn't lose, and kept a clean sheet.
-
We can't keep taking a touch before shooting, and expect to score against a team set up to defend. Got to be quicker in thought and deed.
We will learn and get better.
-
Just checked and we're actually a point better off after 11 games than in two of the MON 6th placed seasons which surprised me so we're doing o.k I'd suggest.
Just been an odd season and that will continue for a few more months I think.
-

This is exactly it.
I really enjoyed the game.

Remember Arsenal away?

That's a big issue with Jack as he insists on an extra touch rather than shooting or perhaps passing sooner.
Its not that his skill isn't appreciated by me but I would like to see him shoot a lot more or play faster.
-
On one touch too much not so much Jack but others were guilty particularly Traore for his big chance. I mean what the fuck was that? He dealt with it like your average pub player.
-
I haven't read through all 15 pages so I don't know if anyone saw when a Villa player was about to take a throw in and a passing Burnley player reached out and knocked his arm. What a shower of niggly, dirty, shite.
-
Impossible not to be frustrated to have not won that but equally impossible not to marvel at how far we’ve come in a relatively short time. We’re heading in the right direction.
-
We broke the losing run of home games yay. And I thought El Ghazi played well. Certainly offers more than Hourihane.
-
Ridiculous game, the number of times we got through in an inside channel and fucked it right up. 2 points dropped.
Still, encouraging general play considering the injuries to our best two midfielders. On another day we'd have won by 10. Life goes on.
This.
-
Pleased with the clean sheet and the performance in general.
Obviously finishing let us down. Burnley are an awful team and would be no loss to the PL along with Mee.
El Ghazi played well 1st half but seemed tired in the 2nd as evidenced by his shooting. My frustrations with all our wingers (Traore/El Ghazi tonight and Trez when he plays) is that none of them seem capable of taking their full backs on and getting to the bye-line. I'm sure Watkins would benefit from crosses he could run on to.
Talking of Watkins I would prefer it if he didn't take throw-ins.
Tonight had a feel of being one of those nights when nothing would go in for us, particularly 1st half. It happens, take the positives and move on to the bitters.
-

I respect the job Dyche has done there but think I'd hate watching us play if he was ever our manager compared to even Steve Bruce.
Said in the match thread that Stoke under Pulis were more entertaining to watch over a season than Burnley with the mad Delap long throws.
It's just very basic well drilled football that keeps thme up but I can't ever seen him getting a major club job and press would be all over him quickly if he plays like that with England given he'll probably be a big contender when Southgate is sacked.
-
We broke the losing run of home games yay. And I thought El Ghazi played well. Certainly offers more than Hourihane.
Compared to all the games last season when he was simply anonymous, I also thought El Ghazi played well and looked a man fighting for his place in the side, shows for me how our strength in depth has much improved since last season, shame about the shooting mind. With Luiz and Barclay in that midfield, I can only think we would of annihilated them cloggers tonight
-
Westwood was the culprit for the push.
-
It's a tough one to know with Dyche if that is just him doing the best he can with the relatively scant resources he has available, of if that's his footballing DNA. Would he play a more expansive style if he had Dean's resources? Dunno.
-

Yep, it’s just the way things go sometimes. For instance against Liverpool all we seemed to need to do was direct the ball goal-wards and it would find a way of hitting the back of the net. Tonight despite hammering away at their defences for 90 minutes nothing quite went went right.
-

He's very MON to me. Rigid 4-4-2 system, hardly ever signs foreign players despite them being in prem for 5 years now and claims it's due to having little money for advanced scouting system even though they've spent a fair bit on new training ground. Pulis never changing his style despite spending a fair amount in his last 3 years at Stoke, he just signed more expensive versions of what he had and think Dyche would be the same.
He'd have been a good manager in the period around 2015 simply to keep us up in the league but we want much better than that in next 5 years so would be massively underwhelmed if we replaced DS with him, whenever that may be.
-

He has no right foot and was trying to get it on his left.

A very strange signing.
-
I think Traore came because we couldn't get Rashica. H won't be here long-term based on what we've seen of him so far. However, I can well imagine him scoring a worldie or two as well...
As for the game, I'm really pleased with the overall performance. Chance after chance that any prospective forward signing would be all over like a rash.
We dominated and we had Barkley, Konsa, Cash, Luiz and Trez missing.
It shows how much we've progressed.
Frustrating mind!
-
It was awful game of football from both teams - i had a crick in my neck, watching the ball being launched from one of the field to the other.
Without the missing players our subs / reserves are not the standard needed to get this club top half of the table (no wonder we don't want the 5 subs rule!)
-
I thought the set plays in the main were wasted. Traore needs some crossing practice. However, it could've been worse and I still think at full strength we have a great team.
-
Considering he hasn't played in the first team for a while I thought Hause did well last night, it was always going to be a physical encounter for him against Burnley, he was pretty dominant in the air and fairly decent on the ball.
-
We played well for most part. I think we played it long to get Burnley off guard as playing it around meant they’d get everyone behind the ball. They came for a point and succeeded in the main due to our overall poor finishing. JG was easily MOTM. That left footed shot into the near post should have been clipped into Watkins though as he would only have had a tap in if it came his way. I get that Traore needs game time but it’s really hard to see what he brings to the team so far.
-
Just read that we have had the most clean sheets (6) of any side in the league so far this season. Given the issues of last season that is a real turnaround.
-
After sleeping on that I’m feeling more positive. On another day we walk that 4-0.
Let’s keep up that intensity on Sunday and cruise to a comfortable win.
-
We’d have taken 4 points from our last two games a week ago and as we’ve been saying for many a week now “we were due a draw”.
-
I think last season we lose that but this season we didn’t even look close to conceding, other than that one header. The fact we’re all a bit underwhelmed shows how far the expectations have risen but we are still a team in transition.
I worry that had we had our shooting boots on we’d now be staring at two or three key injuries because of those cynical lumps. 🤣
-
Just read that we have had the most clean sheets (6) of any side in the league so far this season. Given the issues of last season that is a real turnaround.
We're keeping clean sheets and creating plenty of chances. A real improvement. Another window or two of shopping for quality and we'll be absolutely fine.
-
We’d have taken 4 points from our last two games a week ago and as we’ve been saying for many a week now “we were due a draw”.
True.
Had we drawn against the dogheads and won last night we’d be in the same situation points wise but probably jumping for joy.
-
It was a frustrating watch but still enjoyable. Thought El Ghazi played well bar his finishing, Jack should shoot more and we need as has been said to try and get to the byline more.
Traore is a concern, I cannot see where the decision to by him, let alone for how much we paid, came about because he just doesn't look all that at all to me!
As for the replacements for the established first teamers - Hause was excellent, Nakamba perfectly fine but Elmo's delivery (which I presume gives him the nod) was awful all night. Be good to have Duggie and Cashy back on Sunday and hopefully Barkley too.
We are a work in progress though, and for me, that progress is doing more than OK!!
-

And on balance taking a point away from the Dingles by beating them works out better.
Just frustrating mind, but while we're used to watching us huff and puff, at least we created an avalanche of chances.
-
A frustrating result given the way the game went but it was encouraging to see players come in to the side and do well. Finishing aside, I think Anwar had a good game and Hause was solid. Traore I’m not convinced by but there is a good player in there somewhere.
We’ve been robbed so many times at the end of games like that and I was convinced Burnley would score from a set piece toward the end but thankfully we held them off.
Finally, Burnley. What a team of thugs. Particularly Mee who seems to get more protection from refs than the players he’s trying to injure and that left back of theirs who seemed to commit about 300 fouls and didn’t get booked all game. Shithouses.
-
No comments on the match. Checked the score and couldn’t be arsed watching it. I knew we’d draw this one. Disappointing but at least we got a point and no major injuries, which was a concern after playing Burnley last season there. Batter the Albion and we’ll be fine.
-
Lots of positives but it's just frustrating we're letting so many points go from very winnable games. I think we may come to regret these missed opportunities later in the season, particularly when the fixtures turn on the run it.
-
It was a frustrating watch but still enjoyable.
On reflection, I agree. I'd so much rather see us tearing into the opposition and repeatedly fluffing our lines at the last than the years' worth of meek, terrified hoofball that we went through over the last decade. Not too often, mind.
-
Just read that we have had the most clean sheets (6) of any side in the league so far this season. Given the issues of last season that is a real turnaround.
But you do know that Mings is the worst centre half in the League?
-
I thought we were fine last night. Certainly never looked like losing and on another night could easily have won at a canter. Not bad with 5 first-team regulars out. I thought El Ghazi had his best game for us for a long while and was probably a bit too keen to score, given he is apparently technically the best shooter in training. Wish Traore hadn't taken that extra touch though. I was shouting 'hit it, it's on your left foot!' at the telly. Why he took one more touch I don't know, he could have just slammed it.
We look a good side though. We've taken the game to nearly everyone we've played. Signs are looking really good, I reckon.
-
Just checked and we're actually a point better off after 11 games than in two of the MON 6th placed seasons which surprised me so we're doing o.k I'd suggest.
Just been an odd season and that will continue for a few more months I think.
Worth bearing in mind that we've yet to play most of the "super seven" (Man City, Spurs, Chelsea, Yanited plus Everton who on their day are good). Ironically we have beaten the other three of that lot (Liverpool, Leicester, Arsenal) so maybe those games will yield points.
I was worried by Mee's cynical body check on Jack last night, considering the chest (lung?) injury that kept him out for a couple of months before. Thankfully he bounced straight back up. You only see that sort of foul from cloggers and lower league teams now, thankfully.
-
Just read that we have had the most clean sheets (6) of any side in the league so far this season. Given the issues of last season that is a real turnaround.
But you do know that Mings is the worst centre half in the League?
He still does something stupid and casual in every game. Last night, up for a corner in the first half, he tried to trap the ball nonchalantly on the edge of Burnley's box, messed-up and they broke and probably should have scored. It's really annoying how often he tries to show-off with an extra touch.
-
El Ghazi's free kick was fantastic and Pope's save world-class. Anwar also has such little backlift in his shots that it's no surprise he has the confidence to pull the trigger so often. Just lacked some composure last night.
-
I can't understand the negativity aimed at Traore. He was a solid 7 last night. He's classy on the ball and while he could be said to be a bit of a luxury player he still put a shift in. He deserves a lot of credit for tracking their player right into our area for a clearance following Ming's error. I thought Jack looked magic in patches in the No 10 role and he's just a couple of goals away from being devastating in that role. And a mention for Martinez. There's a kind of relaxed confidence in our defenders that I haven't seen for years and it's largely down to him.6 clean sheets from 11 games is phenomenal especially after the years where we've suffered far too many humiliating defeats.
-

No-one has said, ever, that he's the worst CB in the league. That's bollocks. What has been said is he has a tendency to overrate his own ability and/or drop a bollock at least once a game to gift the opposition a clear chance. Last night did nothing to contradict that view. A better attacking side than Burnley would have buried that breakaway after he lost the ball yet again in the opposition half. If he cuts out the needless errors and poor positioning he would be one of the best CBs around. But you could say that about loads of CBs.
-
Keeping a positive vibe going, I thought Hause did really well, coming into the team after so little game time so far this season.
I think a physical battle against bruising centre forwards suits him much better that playing against smaller, faster forwards.
-

I think he does stuff like that because he's really enjoying playing and maybe over-confident.

Exactly. Has to be remembered that he's in his second season of playing regular first team Premiership football at centre-half. He's still developing. It's clear one of the things they have been working on is him breaking forward with the ball, couple of occasions he's found himself in front of the midfield. That's showing confidence in his partner at the back and the keeper. he will occasionally get caught out, and is prone to mistakes but it's about him progressing and as he does benefitting the team.

I think you're right actually, I was surprised how often Traore helped to defend and that tracking back into our box was great. Smith really has got the team working for each other.
I's also like to add that it's great that we're disappointed with a 0-0 draw and 27 shots had, for years we'd have been happy with that as it meant we hadn't lost.
-
I think there's a lot of fair comment on here - played some good stuff but need to finish better - but also a fair bit of interpreting the performance in the light of the disappointing result. A bit like at West Ham.
The football is so much better than the last few years. We play some very good, creative stuff, we make chances, we take teams on. Ultimately though our profligacy lets us down too often, but to me we are a pleasure to watch after the dire stuff under Bruce, Lambert, McLeish and even O'Neill.
As for individuals, Traore was ok in my view, did some good stuff, chased back to save Mings' bacon, but is a little too casual at times. A bit more focus and intensity and there's a player there.
AEG was basically Trez with more skill. His best game in terms of being consistently involved getting into great positions, but then fucking up at the crucial moment. One shot was basically a pass back to Pope, the rest mostly way over the bar.
Hause and Nakamba did ok although both gave the ball away cheaply at times.
My big concern is Watkins. He looks great away from home where teams don't sit back but where teams come and park the bus he seems to be largely nullified (and you could say the same for the team as a whole) .
He's not physical enough to battle it out with gritty centre halves and he can't utilise his pace and clever runs. He doesn't seem adept at finding the space in the box like Trez, Traore and AEG have been doing, which is a shame because he probably has the composure to finish more effectively that the other 3 seem to lack.
When he does find space he is often ignored - Jack's been guilty of that a couple of times, and AEG was last night as well. Perhaps he needs to give colleagues more of a bollocking for not playing him in when he's in a better position to score. But maybe could also make a few ore runs to the near post to get to a cross before the first defender, which even Wesley was able to do once or twice.
Jack was great again but still has a tendency to pass when he should shoot, and vice versa.
Overall I'm frustrated at the points we've dropped at home but enjoying the way we are playing, the fact we are doing much better than I expected despite the home form, and that there is still room for improvement if we can improve the home form.
-
if we play that game with our first pick 11 we win
Any changes at all the team is weaker
we had at least 4 last night that’s why we struggled
it’s as simple as that

Maybe. But this doesn't explain our lack of cutting edge against Wolves, West Ham & Brighton.

Of the five regulars that were absent from last night, three of them haven't scored this season, so I don't think they'd have helped with our slipshod finishing. If Grealish can't score playing as a '10' then I've little reason to think Barkley would've done better with the same chances. I'd say the only one that might have been more likely to score, all things being the same, would've been Konsa with that header Hause had.
Overall play-wise, I was pretty happy with that Villa 'B' team display last night.

It wasn't just that he tracked back, look how much ground he made up when he got back into our own half. He's also still getting proper match minutes under his belt. I thought he was OK, and I also think it takes time for the players around him to better anticipate what he'll do in any given situation. I think a fit Trez keeps his spot ahead of him, but he's a useful option from the bench, and can clearly do a job if called upon.

I agree with all of that. Regards Traore, other than that one touch to many in their box and one other ballooned pass, I thought he was right on it yesterday and caused them plenty of problems.

I thought we played well last night given the changes we had to make en masse. Elmo, Hause, El Ghazi and Nakamba all had decent games as replacements which bodes well for the squad strength and if we'd taken just one of those many chances we'd have been very happy. As for Traore, you can see he has lots of ability and he works hard. Let's give the guy a chance to settle.

if we play that game with our first pick 11 we win
Any changes at all the team is weaker
we had at least 4 last night that’s why we struggled
it’s as simple as that
Of the five regulars that were absent from last night, three of them haven't scored this season, so I don't think they'd have helped with our slipshod finishing.
Fair enough
I still maintain we win that game with our first team 11
lack of quality cost us against a bottom 3 club imo

John, that was our first home-game point in 4 games.
Just saying.

I think the encouraging thing, despite the underwhelming results of late, is that we continue to be creative and positive in every game.
We have a similar problem to Leeds - create bags of chances but have trouble finishing them - hopefully we can turn the corner like they did recently and bang in 5 against WBA! Our league fixtures between Boxing Day and 27th of Jan (when we play Burnley again ???) are very tough so we need to start capitalizing on our good approach play ASAP.

I thought it was his best game for us and he did work back. That clearance from Mings mistake was excellent and I cheered that like us scoring. We have to remember he hasn’t had much game time with us either.
-
I like Ollie Watkins a lot but last night we were crying out for a Tammy Abraham style clinical finisher.
-
I felt last night, by-and-large we played incredibly well. There was only one team ever going to win that game, and any other day we would've hammered them. But for whatever reason, it didn't quite click up front and we've come away with a single point rather than the 3pts we deserved. It happens.
My gut feeling is that we're on the cusp of seeing something really special, and last night - even though it didn't go quite as you'd hope - was pretty much proof of that. In the normal run of things we'd have utterly demolished them.
-
Very frustrating game but we are making progress game by game. Burnley are a horrible niggly team, thank God we don’t have to watch them every week. They remind me of Stoke but going further back Bolton, horrible anti football teams. Anyway considering we had 4/5 replacements I was quite impressed that we produced such a good performance, everyone knows their place and part to play in the overall team when asked to step in. It’s still the youngest team in the league so we need to be a bit more patient with this team as I’m sure it’s the beginning of something exciting

I'm not sure any of the gimme's fell to Watkins, so how would Tammy have made a difference? Still would have had El Ghazi, jack and Traore in the same positions missing the same chances? I wouldn't say Watkins had the type of service Tammy would thrive on all night.
-
Thought the pitch was a bit bobbly. Also don't much like this Premier League ball.
-
One of the frustrating things about last night's performance was the number of short corner routines that went nowhere. On the rare occasions when a corner was put straight into the box we looked dangerous (as when Hause hit the post, which immediately led to another corner, which we took short and ended up in a cul de sac). I may be wrong, but I think it may have been from one of these routines in the first half that led to Mings fannying around in a failed attempt to keep us on the offensive, and in turn a dangerous breakaway). I'm not saying fling the ball into the box from every corner, but last night the short corners were poorly executed and overdone.
-
Considering we're not short of skill these days, our corners are awful. I'd be tempted to give the fullbacks a try at them, can't imagine they'd be much worse.

Probably not the right thread to be on, but wondered what people thought of the Amazon coverage? Not up to Skys level at the moment imo and I actually miss the crowd effects that Sky put on. (Having said that I think it is brilliant to watch a game where there are fans back - breath of fresh air). Pretty sure Amazon will get it right though, although picture quality is going to be an issue for them.

You can turn the effects on and off. If you click the little speaker icon for Audio & Languages, it gives you the choice of English, which has the added effects, or Stadium, which is just the natural sound in the ground.
-
Who are their pundits? Micah Richards and Gary Lineker hogging another channel? Wish someone random like Barry Venison would turn up to analyse expertly.
-
I was still doing tea at kick-off, I'm only watching the start now. Twelve minutes in, we could've been out of sight with even the faintest more aplomb. Traore getting into shape quicker, Watkins hitting the defender, Watkins not finding Grealish, El Ghazi hitting Mings.
-
Jim Beglin (ex Liverpool) was the co-commentator. He seemed ok.
-
Disappointed but not down we created chances hopefully we put them away against the Tesco Bags.

I thought the coverage was good to be fair, but it was like stepping back in time with Clive Tyldsley commentating, Jim Beglin co commentating and Jim Rosenthal as they anchor.

It felt like a Champions League tie! (Tongue firmly in cheek). Coverage was better than I expected, and the added bonus of Amazon now being on Sky Q meant a really good picture quality.

Thanks for the tip Lastfootstamper. Will try that next time! Cheers.

Anything is better than that pillock Martin Tyler (and its live!!!!). Every time I hear that commentary on that Man City game when “Agueroaoaoaoaoa” scores I want to put a foot through the TV.

I thought the coverage was good. I watch through my PS4 and get a really good picture quality.
I think Karen Carney is pretty fair on us for a Nose too.
-
I thought Guy Mowbray was the "Agueeeeerrrooo" douchebag. If not, there is still something about Mowbray that really grates.

Oh she isn’t is she , there goes my guilty pleasure 😳

Agony listening to this on the radio -hard to believe we couldn't score.

I think it's excellent. Especially the live goals section where the pundits talk about the games and go live to each hame to show goals as they happen. My only issue is some of the pundits are not the best but overall i really like it.

I watch through the PS4 and it’s crystal clear, and my nipper’s Kindle, and have had no issues, been surprised to see others have.

I watch it on my laptop as the wife watches the big telly, I think the quality of picture is great and the crowd sound you can turn on and off.
The pundits just drone on for me and I usualy miss what they are saying as I'm engrossed in the game.
