@MatKendrick: Kozak starts alongside Benteke #avfc
@doogan_brian: '@AVFCOfficial team v #cardiff Guzan Bacuna Vlaar (c) Clark Baker El Ahmadi Westwood Sylla Tonev Benteke Kozak #avfc #utv
-
Guzan, Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, Baker, El Ahmadi, Westwood, Sylla, Tonev, Benteke, Kozak.
-
Guzan, Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, Baker, El Ahmadi, Westwood, Sylla, Tonev, Benteke, Kozak.
Bollocks, no Delph.
-
subs: Steer, Helenius, Herd, Bowery, Lowton, Johnson, Robinson
-
I hope either Benteke plays behind Kozak, we're playing a diamond in midfield or it's 3-5-2. If it's an outright 4-4-2 I'll be worried. Big blow not to have Delph though.
-
That looks a pretty woeful side in my opinion.
-
What do we reckon that is then? Must be four at the back.
So perhaps a diamond, with Tonev behind the strikers, KEA and Sylla either side of Westwood? Or Sylla tucked in on the right a la NRC and Tonev left.
Either way, I doubt this is going to be pretty with two brutes up front and little width.
-
No Delph is bad news, I guess we're kind of playing a 4-3-1-2. What's going on with Delph?
-
Why no Delph?
-
Formation? Looks like three central midfielders with Tonev drifting around behind the front two?
Two big men will be hard for the other team to mark.
-
Surprised as Delph was supposed to be fit after illness - kea and westwood together at home is not very effective , not really an inspiring midfield at all, interesting to see how Kozak fares with benteke.

Hopefully we remember that Benteke is so much more than a brute. When we just punt it to him we don't get the best from him.
-
Awful side. Must be the slowest in the league history!!! No pace at all aside from Benteke. I would have been tempted to stick Robinson in just for his pace and he looks a talent.
-
I just posted on another thread that Delph is our engine. Was sure he would start today, hope he is back soon.
-

I guess we can bring him on if we need an injection of pace.
-
Come on Villa win this game please, Benteke you need to perform today.
-

Would have been better than going with kea, Westwood and sylla - too negative in midfield .
-
It does look a pretty terrible side I must say. Not much width OR creativity, apart from the somewhat erratic Tonev.
This isn't going to be one for the purists.
Let's hope we're all wrong and the midfield allows us to get hold of the ball, with Tonev and Bacuna providing the bullets for the front two.
I suspect that may be wishful thinking and the match thread will not a pleasant place be.
-

To be fair Tonev's pretty quick and Sylla's not a slouch. The other two are barely mobile, though.
-
We really need to win this game, and it's time that Westwood and KEA in particular actually did something.
-
Last on MOTD. Not going to be pretty.
-
Another surprising selection and an odd-looking team. Is Lambo's head getting in a muddle?
-
Would much rather have pushed bacuna into midfield and played Lowton leaving out kea - lack of width and creativity is disappointing.
-

Should be one or the other at home - both too similar and negative to play together in the same side at home for me.
-

Completely agree. Bacuna on the right and Tonev left, possibly Helenius ahead of Kozak.
Let's hope we're all wrong though
-
We are desperate for a couple of player in January. Both attack minded, both quick, and able to make a big difference pace wise. The way we are set up we rely on it, and Gabby is the biggest weapon we have.
-
Another surprising selection and an odd-looking team. Is Lambo's head getting in a muddle?
More like injuries to our key players are depriving us at the minute. No Gabby, no Delph, as soon as Benteke gets back they get injured so we never have a fully-fit team, no Weimann who, while out of form, has come alive for good spells in many games this season, no Luna or even Bennett eliminating our natural overlap on the left - it's fairly unlucky.
-

Maybe , but he still had option of bacuna in midfield and Lowton at right back rather than the pedestrian midfield he has chosen.
Bellamy and odemwingie will be dangerous on the break.
-
God, what a dire team and a strange selection, 0-0 or 1-0 either way written all over it as was the case last week
-

I agree, I would have preferred that, but he doesn't seem to fancy Lowton at the mo - and to be fair, Lowton was fairly pish earlier in the season.
-
I'd rather have seen Johnson, Robinson or helenius given a chance to impress - it's such a negative side he has chosen :(
This is Cardiff at home - should be looking to take the game to them .
-
That's a poor side. On current form and struggling for goals I honestly don't see us scoring today. Baker at left back is always a worry too. If Bacuna is having to bomb forward to provide most of our width, he'll leave gaps and I'd expect Cardiff to potentially exploit that.
It depends how quickly we re-act in terms of changes, and whether Benteke can produce a moment of Benteke magic from nothing, but a side that functional and ordinary isn't going to do much.
I honestly don't see why we'd play a side this poor looking rather than give Robinson and also Johnson a shot? Westwood and KEA have been poor lately. Either of them could make way for Johnson who's more mobile, just as tidy on the ball, and could potentially score goals from midfield too.
Robinson deserves a place over a struggling Kozak.
This side seems lopsided. I mean how will they line up? Lambert only knows (or does he???).
I think we're making this harder on ourselves. Granted we might now come out and turn them over, but honestly, I think Cardiff will nick the game on a set piece.
-
I think Benteke could be very good for Kozak today.
-
I'm just about to try that lineup out on fifa . . .
-
I think Benteke could be very good for Kozak today.
Yep hopefully, I just hope we resist the temptation to go long. We are much better side when the ball is on the deck.
-
I think Benteke could be very good for Kozak today.
This does interest me - if they can hit it off together it could be very good but will they get the service is the worry?
-

I mean this is a McLeish selection almost. With such a lack of width and also midfield creativity, we're almost setting up to play hoofball.
Tonev could provide some width, but I suspect he'll play in behind. Baker will barely get over the half way line, so our attack on the left will be non existent (unless Tonev shifts there, or Tekkers pulls out, which he can do).
-
selection of a struggling manager I reckon
no width, dire midfield, cant see much constructive football from that side
if cardiff score first I dont expect us to get back in the game
-
We need the result today, I don't care how we get it, we must get three points.
-
Benteke does have the ability to play a little wider, or dropped off. He's a clever player, but I don't think Lambert will do that. If anything he'd be more likely to shift Kozak, uncomfortably out to a wider spot. Though I suspect it'll be a straight up, two up front.
-
I did fancy us to win today, but after looking at that line up, I'd take a point.
That is depressing

I'm worried about Bellamy. He's still got a turn of pace, so he may well be waiting to exploit any gaps that Bacuna might leave going forward. Oik that he is, he's a clever player. Likewise Odemwingie, if he's playing wide too might be looking to exploit Baker. We've got to be careful because Whitts can put the ball on a six-pence from set pieces.

Against Chelsea away weren't our fans calling Lambert 'the real special one' or some such?
I hope that he hasn't lost his way.
-

That is depressing
Not a chance would I ever take a point at home against Cardiff.
-
If we're still 0-0 at 50-60 minutes I hope he makes a change quickly. I'd like to see 2-3 of Helenius, Robinson and Johnson coming on with plenty of time to influence the game.
Defensively we're not too shabby at the moment, but we're going to struggle a lot in attack today. If we keep things on a parity there's still the chance for Lambert to get this right and turn the game.
-

In the context of where we find ourselves, i.e, ten home wins since August 2011, a draw may not be a bad result while we wait on Gabby, Andi, and Delph to get fit.
-
8 Lambert signings in that side and it looks a bag of bollocks, says it all really.
We need a win to start moving upwards again today.
-
update on my fifa game . .
Absolutely horrible villa performance. no width. awful passing. but somehow two up at half time. deflected tonev strike from a corner and benteke following up a kozak shot.
It's an omen i tells ya
-
What worries me about that side is service to Kojak and Benteke. Tonev is not a creative player and Helenius would surely provide more. Hope I am wrong but that looks like a poor choice of players. Only Westwood and KEA have the potential to create a pass unless Bacuna is allowed to push forward .....
-

We've got half a first team out injured, what do you expect? Take five first team players from any Premier League team and it'll look weak, with the probable exception of Man City. Delph, Agbonlahor, Weimann, Okore and Luna are a big chunk of the team to miss.

that's just how FIFA 1
-
I'd guess that will be a 4-3-1-2, with Tonev as the '1'.
But it's not a team selection to lift the spirits at first glance, is it? Oh well, let's hope they pull it off and prove me utterly wrong!

A better side.
The summer additions supposedly added some squad depth, which they haven't because most of them have looked shit.
-
fcuk what a dire squad we have . I mean Weimann and Gabby havent done anything lately neither . We will miss Delph . Dull team
expect us to win 4-0 now

Managers like players go through spells of poor form and judgement. That selection strikes me as the actions of a man whose head is in a bit of a funk. It's hard to know what he is trying to accomplish. Another dull display at Villa Park will weaken him further imo
........Now we will go out and smash them 5-0 with Kozak scoring all five
-
Glass half full: real opportunity for Kozak and Tonev to make a good impression against mediocre opposition; Benteke is due a stormer.
Glass half empty: Benteke and Guzan are the only names on our team sheet that scream quality. Yes we have a good few first teamers out injured but that shouldn't mean we automatically become dire and toothless.
I still reckon we'll have enough to win though. We bloody well ought to.

The funny thing is we tend to play through our best players, and with no Delph to go through in the midfield and no Gabby to stretch on the wings, it looks like Guzan-to-Benteke might be our tactic. I hope not, but it wouldn't be the first time.
-
On one hand, there's no such thing as an easy fixture in the Premier League.
On the other hand, if we can't put on a half decent performance against Cardiff at home, then you have to worry when we will start doing it.
-
We need to keep a check on the silly fouls in areas where Whittingham can produce good balls into the box aswell, they have a real aerial threat. No diving in.

Agree. Guessing the excuse might be be 'injuries'.

Quite. Next week: KEA, Sylla and Westwood all out with neck injuries.
-
Every home game is disappointing.

That excuse doesn't wash because if we spent £20m in the summer and only Bacuna has become a regular then it tells you what you need to know about the other £18m he spent on the squad.
Lets just hope we are wrong and Lambert is right and we cane them 2 or 3.
-
Let's batter them. Johnson and Robinson on the bench? Possible big chance for them later. Kozak and Benteke should smash them tbh.

Aye to the last bit.
-
off side too early for him to wake up to it

I laughed, and then I saw that opening. More of that and we'll both be happily proved wrong.
-
Cardiff are above us due to being a decent team. Any win is a good one!
-
Shit camera angle again.
-
Lowton should be in for KEA and Bacuna in an attacking mid role.
-
positive start!!
-
Good start.
-
Decent attendance, it seems.come on Villa!
-
We've started really well.
-
If Cardiff score today, it is absolutely bound to be Odemwingie, isn't it?
-
stream crap . need another one
-
I do like KEA. I really want him to come good. He has the ability, just needs to find his feet in the league.
-
Lively start from both sides.
-
Bloody hell chaotic defending there.
-
Kozac is a yard of pace from being a good player
-
How is Caulker not in the England squad?
-
Kozak looks much more comfortable with benteke.
-
CB looks up for it today
-
That was a chance I think. Sylla could have put more into the shot, or Benteke could have put Kozak through.
-
Two shots on target from midfielders in the opening 8 minutes - a real treat !
-
Fuck me Kozak.
-
Kozak almost scores.
-
Kozak is fucking shite.
-
Could be a real open cracking game this .
-
Blimey!
-
good job kozak can't finish for shit
-
Benteke is really scary when he runs at defenders.
-
Good game so far!
-
Benteke is the real deal.
-
Looked a corner to me on replay
-
Been a belter so far. Lovely stuff.
-
Benteke is looking lively today, but come on Christian get some goals.
-
OOHHH. Close. He's gotta score today.
-
The beast's up for it today!!!
-
Fucking defence wake up.
-
Wow - 4 efforts on goal in 11 mins and could have conceded twice too - really enjoying this positive start.
-
4-4-2 is the way to go.
-
Defence is sloppy at the moment.
-
Clark is > than Baker.
-
good job kozak can't finish for shit
***chuckle***
-
Great pressing that.
4-4-2 is the way to go.
As long as all four midfielders are in the middle.
-
Great pressing that.
4-4-2 is the way to go.

As a diamond yes but when Gabby is back he could play on the left of a 4 in mid and Tonev could play right.
-
Midfield looks tidy today.
-

I would sooner have 2 genuine wide players though!

I think the only reason we're playing well is because we have a compact centre, so our limited midfielders at least have options close by.
-

-
Stop the cross coming in lazy wanker. Why do our fullbacks just stick a limp leg out.
-
Clark is > than Baker.
Cheddar cheese > Baker
-
We look shaky at the back - I think we may need 3 to win but can see us getting a 3-2 result.
-
Clark is > than Baker.
Indeed.
Overall I've been much more impressed by Baker. Both are good though, and useful members of the team. I think Baker is stronger and less prone to error though. Not much in it, mind.
-
I just don't think there's any way we could possibly play the outright 4-4-2 with wide players. If we want width it's 4-3-3 or nothing.
-
Clark is > than Baker.
Cheddar cheese > Baker
Candlestick Maker > Baker

We don't have better options than Tonev on the right of a 4 man midfield at the moment.

I'd say Clark is much much better technically and positionally.
-
Heard Roy Keane has turned up to watch ... Richard Dunne?
-
Benteke - born offside.
-
Lovely pass from Westwood into Kozac then. Need more of that from him.
-
Punt it long, my lord, punt it long..
-
Yep we need Westwood to start making telling contributions.
-
Tonev has fantastic crossing accuracy.. straight to the keeper every time.
-
Heard Roy Keane has turned up to watch ... Richard Dunne?
He's here to stamp out any anti-MON sentiment.
-
I think we've gone 3-5-2
-
El Ahamadi needs to press the ball faster, he ambles up to his man.
-
Tonev has fantastic crossing accuracy.. straight to the keeper every time.
Frustrating, that.
Did well to get himself past the defender and into a position where he could cross, then spunked it straight at the keeper.
-
stream is better -
saw the ball go wide just from benteke I think but it stopped
-
Seems to have gone off the boil this game after an exciting start .
-
We've got to keep at them. We can't let them start to dominate.
-
Tonev has fantastic crossing accuracy.. straight to the keeper every time.
Frustrating, that.
Did well to get himself past the defender and into a position where he could cross, then spunked it straight at the keeper.
Beating a man is quite an achievement for a Villa player though.
-
It's not a bad game to watch, but it's not big on quality from either side.
-
That Taylor lad is blowing hard for them!
-
KEA just looks so fucking half arsed.
-
Pressing higher at home than I've ever seen so far this season. A lot more positive even without our best 11
-
Tonev has fantastic crossing accuracy.. straight to the keeper every time.

Yup, did the hard part - twice now. Both times into the keepers hands. With two big men who can thrive on crosses we need to put the ball into areas they can attack.
I do like Tonev's willingness to shoot, even if others don't. I don't feel we have enough attempts for my liking most of the time. He needs to show more though.
-
Gone a bit shit now.
-
Fuck off ref is that a free kick. The ball is long gone and there was no impediment!
-
Really poor KEA.
-
KEA just looks so fucking half arsed.
Indeed , frustrating player.
-
Almost brilliant again from Westwood. So close to threading Kozac through
-
He is f'kin shite no two ways about it, pathetic midfield player.
-
We've gone into 'needless free kick mode'.
-
Another offside.
-
Can sense our fans get frustrated.
-
We have stopped playing.
-
We've dropped off badly now and there's no link up play, midfield is becoming invisible again.
-
We're so narrow. The wing space is crying out for someone to go in it. Literally a waste of space.
-
cardiff dominating possession...
-
Our continued inability to find a teammate with the all is being to boil my piss. We just can't build any significant pressure. We started so brightly and now have returned to snafu...
-
We are just standing off them, this is not good at all at home to Cardiff.
-
From having had 53% of the ball around 20 minutes in, we now have had 42% overall. A shocking dip.
-
58% possession for Cardiff.
-
Afternoon chaps, hows it going?
-
Really poor isn't it. Not got any control at the moment.
-
This is really poor again and Kozak jumps like he's got concrete boots on.
-
We're very one-dimensional, as soon as we get it we look straight for the front two. No guile, just a battering ram approach. When we do pass and move we create chances - it's bloody frustrating that we don't do it more.
-
That was better, more movement created space.
-
another cross to goalie
-
Sounds like another frustrating display.
-
Tonev does the same again.
-
Promising opening but it's all a bit familiar again now :(
-
Afternoon chaps, hows it going?
Started brightly gone a bit shit.
-
Watching soccer Saturday and they haven't been over to the villa since I turned on at 3:15.
Must have lost the transmission lol
-
On the bright side, Tonev is starting to show a few glimpses that he might be a useful player.
Might.
-
Tonev has to be the most frustrating player to play with in the league...Benteke must hate him!
-
What an unremittingly grim affair.
-
Afternoon chaps, hows it going?
Started brightly gone a bit shit.
Better than starting shit and going down hill.
-
Watching soccer Saturday and they haven't been over to the villa since I turned on at 3:15.

BBC Final Score have only just visited VP 41 mins into the game
-
My stream is lagging so badly it's like watching a series of still photographs. No wonder we look static.
-
I never really like letting the opposition have the ball and pass it around whilst we sit back, especially not at home, but I really don't like it when the opposition is Cardiff.
It's like we've gone to sleep.
-
Only 6 and a half hours of football without a goal. Sigh
-
I'll be gutted if we draw this.
-

True...
-
Vlaar playing well.

Not much going on is there?
-
It's like watching a pair of drunks trying to find their keys in the dark.
-
The problem is there is nothing to fear outside of Benteke. Need some pace, or something different, and there is just nothing!
-
What an unremittingly grim affair.
Good opening 15, otherwise a fitting analysis.
I never get the feeling that Lambert knows how to outwit an opponent with tactics other than the rope-a-dope we do against 'the big boys' (puke).
We are achingly ordinary.
-
Fans are groaning a lot. I can see a big negative reaction if this is a bad result.
-
Wasn't this the run of fixtures where we start picking up 3pts??
We look a dump side, playing a dump side.
-
Phil Thompson "awful - as you would expect, 0-0"
Maybe we're up for some "most times on last on MOTD" award?
-
I am amazed we get the crowds we do, when you consider how long it is now that we have been largely crap at home.
-
The problem is there is nothing to fear outside of Benteke. Need some pace, or something different, and there is just nothing!
We are not really very good are we? We need to go spend some money on players who are good now as opposed to players who might be good in the future.
-
Its frustrating to see Benteke having to come deeper looking for the ball.
-
Fucking hell Tonev.
-
oh dear tonez
-
tonev you selfish ******.
-
Fans are groaning a lot. I can see a big negative reaction if this is a bad result.
And rightly so. It's one thing being patient and losing when you see flashes of brilliance (the end of last season). It's another thing entirely watching dross and losing.
We really need a goal.
Tonev....Awful.
-
Of course he shot.
-
Prez.
-
why the fuck didnt play some one in
-
Utter garbage football
-
Tonev has to be the most frustrating player to play with in the league...Benteke must hate him!
If he didn't before he must now.
-
Tonev for crying out loud.
-
OK, I know it's early days and all that, but so far Tonev looks absolute shite.
-
Oh Jesus...Tonev just fuck off!! Every pissing game the same Moon shots with his Sheriffs badge boot.
-
Muppet. Helenius, Johnson & Robinson would do better out there.
-
Tonev lol he just isn't good at football. Another Lambert punt down the pan.
Lambert is a poor manager.
-
Fuck sake Tonev what a waste.
-
Mansfield have equalised so that's good,
well for me anyroad
-
blimey, just seen the Tonev effort...
-
One thing I never thought would happen is that we'd become so dull so quickly
-
Mansfield have equalised so that's good,
well for me anyroad
Got a bet on?
-
Fucking hell Tonev.
echo echo echo
-
The natives are getting restless- sort it out lambert!
-
Big game for lambert. I don't think his job is that secure.
Booos!
-
We need some midfielders like Southampton
-
Mansfield have equalised so that's good,
well for me anyroad
Got a bet on?
No second team, winning now whooooooo
-
The only positive I can take is if we had a full side out I think we would beat these....thats about it.....cue the boos!
-
Francis saying we'll be kicking towards the Holte in the second half. Will we fuck.
We'll be kicking towards the Doug Ellis stand.
-
how minutes without a goal ? and we have an awesome striker too
but no quality any where else
-
Unutterably dull.
-
Half time with the score at that magical 0-0...
-
Booing is a bit harsh when we;re on level terms, but I kind of understand it.
This dire home form is getting very boring.
-
Big game for lambert. I don't think his job is that secure.
Booos!
>:(
Fucking out of order that is.
-
Even the boos were muted. It's not terrible, it's not abysmal, it's not that they aren't trying or even that they're openly defensive - it's just relentlessly uninspiring.
-
I feel zoned out after that extremely poor first 45.
-
4 and a half games without a goal, fucking hell. Our midfield is so devoid of skill, not good enough.
-
how minutes without a goal ? and we have an awesome striker too
but no quality any where else
7 hours...
-
Fucking hell Tonev.
echo echo echo
concentrate... concentrate... I've got to concentrate... concentrate... concentrate... Hello?... hello... hello... Echo... echo... echo... Pinch hitting for Pedro Borbon... Manny Mota... Mota... Mota...
-
I'm sure Ronaldo used to shoot like Tonev when he first went to old trafford.
He's no lady boy though
-
Is Tonev really better than Darren Bent
-
We started so brightly but after about 20-25 minutes we just looked like we'd totally run out of ideas. Either Lambert needs to adapt his formula to suit the players he has bought or he needs to buy better players.
Cardiff have been knocking it around reasonably well without creating anything major but I'd say they're looking more likely than us at the moment.
-
Even the boos were muted. It's not terrible, it's not abysmal, it's not that they aren't trying or even that they're openly defensive - it's just relentlessly uninspiring.
Bang on.
-
I am as patient as the next man, but giving Cardiff City 60% possession at home is not a sign of good things happening any time soon.
-
The midfield looks like a lower championship sides. He must have been fucking mental to sign Kozakscarino instead of a midfielders. There's literally hundreds who are better than the plodders we have at the moment.
-
Not much excitement Tonev needs to sort out his final ball shoots too often and crossing is poor.
Boo's at half time , the honeymoon is well and truly over for Lambert
-
I am as patient as the next man, but giving Cardiff City 60% possession at home is not a sign of good things happening any time soon.
Yep it's simply not good enough.
-
Is Tonev really better than Darren Bent
I don't know, not really an exact comparison - that's like asking if Joe Root is better than the Gulf Stream.
-
This game is like watching the hull and west ham match all over again
-
If Tonev hadn't looked like he was aiming to clear the North Stand with that shot there may not have been boos at the interval.
-
I'd love to know what tactics Lambert tells the players because I haven't got a clue how to explain the way we play other than disjointed and rushed.
-
If we dont win this I think we can finish any where between 15 place to 18th . its not good enough
-
Oh well. They're a good bunch of lads, though.
-
Tonev had a simple pass to Benteke and just done his usual crowd scarer !!! whatever level, this is becoming a joke .......
-
Two very average sides says the BBC reporter. Seven hours without a goal! If Cardiff scores just once can anyone see us scoring twice?
-
if we can't beat Cardiff today the Lambert era deserves to be over.
-
Booing is a bit harsh when we;re on level terms, but I kind of understand it.
This dire home form is getting very boring.
It would be very harsh If it was a one off , the problem is , its the norm
-
I am as patient as the next man, but giving Cardiff City 60% possession at home is not a sign of good things happening any time soon.
Yep it's simply not good enough.
That could be what the transition is, from Premiership to Championship.
-
It's just so boring from us at the moment.
-
The project is in full bloom. Can't wait to see what players he conjures up January. Some vague Stoke City midfielder who's 26 and has been on loan in Azerbaijan since 2009.
-
We need to be beating Cardiff if we dont then Mr. Lambo has to be questioned , Kozak ans Ben is not the way to go
-
Amidst the wrist-slashing, Vlaar's played well and no nuclear bombs have gone off, so it's not all bad.
-
ffs try playing football. Absolute drivel, and it doesn't need to be.
-
Vlaar has played well, but that tends to suggest we've been under pressure.
-
This is not easy watching. Let's hope one or two of them switch their brains on in the second half.
Probably a forlorn hope though.
-
I'd love to know what tactics Lambert tells the players because I haven't got a clue how to explain the way we play other than disjointed and rushed.
Disjointed and rushed is absolutely spot on. I think the "rushed" part is supposed to be "high tempo" but we don't have players with anywhere like the touch and technique for that. The "disjointed" is partly lack of a game plan and from what I see a lack of football brains on the pitch.
I partly blame the new Villa Park camera angle - it makes the pitch too small :-)
-
Amidst the wrist-slashing, Vlaar's played well and no nuclear bombs have gone off, so it's not all bad.
Vlaar has actually been much better this season, looks like a fairly solid premier league defender. Such a shame Okore got that nasty injury, I still think they'd have made a very good pairing.
-
On the play so far we are going to have to nick this game.
-
Just saying but if Lambert doesn't last say 2 more seasons because we keep finishing in the bottom 5-6, will Lerner or Faulkner ever take a risk on a manager from abroad like Mauricio Pochettino. He really has coached the Saints well so far and has them playing a lovely European style of football that will serve them well.
Just wondering if we will ever take that risk on a manager so we might actually shrug off this "counter attacking team" tag that is destroying us...especially at home.
-
every one on here knew we needed creativity in midfield . The No 10 type
Lambert buys Kozak for £7 million
now 7 hours without a goal against west ham , hull and Cardiff included
hes a top manager this bloke ;(
-
I'm having a half-time coffee with no sugar because I can't be arsed to fight my way over to get some. That what they've done to me.
-
If we dont win this I think we can finish any where between 15 place to 18th . its not good enough
If we lose a couple of goals here then I think the crowd will start to really turn - huge 45mins ahead.
-
the thing that gets me is how dross we are from the most basic things. Watch out for our throw ins. Every one is thrown as long as possible down the line for Benteke or Kozac to try and head on. Its abysmal, why not throw back, get the ball on the ground and try and build something?
Our freekicks and corners are the same, never short or clever or built along the ground. Always the same, lump into the middle.
There is one man responsible for this shite
-
does he ever make half time subs ?
-

Funnily enough, when we're playing well we quicken up the throw-ins. It's weird, it's like we have two teams and two managers - a shit pair and a good pair.
-
Benteke laying down the law to someone there. Was it Tonev?
-
Lambert has been sleep-walking towards an angry backlash in recent weeks. Huge, huge half ahead. he needs to send them out to win, and win well.
I think Lambert will turn out to be a good manager. My fear is that this job at villa could end going down as his 'learning experience', or 'the one that went wrong'.
He was brought in because 16th and shit football was unacceptable for a club of our standing. If at Christmas we look on course for more of the same can we really say he has been a success?
-
A win could bump us up to 9th...which isn't bad...I just can't see us scoring!
-
We need to win here. A draw aint good enough and a loss will be the beginning of another shit winter.
I'm a cheery devil.
-
352 now.
-
Last season you were all moaning we couldn't keep a clean sheet and were defensively weak,
This season we are hard to beat but boring,
so why don't you all just fuck off
-
Tonev moved out wide. He can hurt us less out there.
-
Last season you were all moaning we couldn't keep a clean sheet and were defensively weak,
This season we are hard to beat but boring,
so why don't you all just fuck off
Awesome, John.
You might want to calm it down a bit.
-
Shocking sloppy there.
Francis, like us, has cottoned on to what a big half this is for Lambert...
-
Last season you were all moaning we couldn't keep a clean sheet and were defensively weak,

so why don't you all just fuck off
Haha!
It would be outrageous for anybody to want both.
-
Last season you were all moaning we couldn't keep a clean sheet and were defensively weak,

Because we've merely solved one problem at the expense of creating another.
-
Poor poor defending Baker.
-
Lamberts been a success in lowering everyones expectations.
Apparently now It's ok to spend £40m mainly on unproven players from small countries or the lower leagues because it's what we needed to do.
-
7 home wins from 37.
Fuck sake.
-
Good save, there.
-
Good ball in. Better.
-
Good attempt there. Close
-
Good move, good save.
-
kozak header ... at last and desent cross
-
Have to say it is the best I have seen Westwood play this season. No coincidence Sylla is next to him.
-
Kozaks had a couple of good headers on goal - imagine if we had a decent winger in the team.
-
Looks like a bollocking has been given to me.
-
Was it JG who used to fine players for attempting to shoot from outside the box? Perhaps PL could try the same with Tonev.
-
Would like to see Westwood further up the pitch. He's not effective as a deep lying midfielder.
-
Looks like a bollocking has been given to me.
Why, what have you done?
-
Not convinced the foul on Bellamy in the first half was any different to the one on Westwood in the box then
-
Looks like a bollocking has been given to me.
Proper fucking order.
Fans responding. Come on Villa
-
Get Robinson on and give him a chance.
-
Looks like a bollocking has been given to me.
Why, what have you done?
I've wanted too much from my football team.
-
Get Robinson on and give him a chance.
This.
-
Get Robinson on and give him a chance.
I'd be happy with two from Helenius, Johnson & Robinson on at some point.
-
We are so Jeckyll and Hyde. Class one minute shit the next.
-
Bollocks, Campbell is nippy and has a goal in him. Looks better than that other chap.
-

-
I can see Cardiff nicking it in the 85th minute. :-(
-
We are so Jeckyll and Hyde. Class one minute shit the next 600.
FTFY.
;-)
-
That must be Jols last game
-
stupid fucking tackle.

Bottle of gin I'm afraid
-
Tonev needs to come off soon.
-
Tonev is terrible. First ball watching and then no strength.
-
That must be Jols last game
Yep, just thinking that myself.

More like it sadly :(
-
We aren't really doing any better are we?

Glad the board didnt listen to me...I wanted Jol.

We will lose this

;) try the JD John
-
Very very poor.
-
I'm seriously losing faith with PL. Not good enough
-
None of the managers we've had recently has figured out how to make us dangerous without Gabby. And he was here before any of them.
-
This has got 1-0 Cardiff written all over it.
Make a change now please Paul you boring fuck.
-
Pretty dire stuff this .
-
Good ball from Kozak, nobody there.
-
Albion 1-1 with Chelsea now
-
I feel myself turning on Lambert. He was given a lot of patience last year. Blind faith perhaps?
-
get robinson and Johnson on . Cant be any worse
-
We will lose this
We don't lose when Sylla plays.
-
Make a change for fuck sake lambert!
-
Oh c'mon Lambert...just give Helenius a chance.
-
shot and it wasnt Tonez neither
better effort by Westy
-
im starting to get f..ked off with Guzan and his constant twatting it up to the strikers. its absolutely awful

did you see Tonez lose the ball there
-
Francis: 'villa fans desperate to applaud anything at the moment'.
An appalling state of affairs. 7 home wins from 37. Sort it out villa.
-
im starting to get f..ked off with Guzan and his constant twatting it up to the strikers. its absolutely awful
I bet Lambert tells him thou
-
Again, it's time to remind everyone, we're watching 22 millionaires, professionals, playing in one of the world's top leagues. Enjoy!
-
im starting to get f..ked off with Guzan and his constant twatting it up to the strikers. its absolutely awful
He's only doing what he's been told to do though.
-
We have one player who looks like he might be able to provide a bit of spark, play that role just off the main striker ( a 'false 9', if you will), pick a smart pass, and that's Helenius. I've no idea if he'll cut it in the Premier League, and I'm not claiming he's a world beater or anything, but surely, surely he's worth a go at this point?
-

Going to try and change something Lambert?

I think that will take more money than the owner is willing to spend.
-
John E
Pass me the f**king Gin
Im needing it now too
-
Cardiff sense this game is there to be won while lambert stands clueless on the touchline :(
-
So uninspiring. The sides made up of his signings too. Just pissed money away on majority who are not good enough.
-
Again, it's time to remind everyone, we're watching 22 millionaires, professionals, playing in one of the world's top leagues. Enjoy!
thats exactly what I can't understand - its like this throughout this league. Dire

£43m spent by lambert should be producing far more than this pathetic brand of football.

My turn next :)

Cant ask anymore from the lads. Good 15 minute spell at the start of the game. We should have scored the 1 chance we've had. Rinse repeat.
-
Cardiff sense this game is there to be won while lambert stands clueless on the touchline :(
Yep.
-
Good ball in from KEA. Poor header.
-
Terrible so far.
-
I hope BT sports are watching this, look what they will get when they pay a billion for the prem....
-

We go again!
-
I'm not turning on Lambert, but I'd love to hear his justification for blowing 7 million quid of a limited transfer budget on a lanky striker with no mobility who's crap in the air, when we have nobody to create chances for him.
-
Running after the ball. McLeish would be proud.
-
Cardiff sense this game is there to be won while lambert stands clueless on the touchline :(
Yep.
What have we got on the bench that is so much better than this?

Make a fucking change Lambo.

at least he will get 3/4 of it back when CB f**ks off
-
That throw in was pitiful
-
Worst long throw ever. Looped softly in the air to a guy surrounded by 6 yellow shirts.
They are braindead.
-
FFS Albion 2-1 at Chelsea now
wheres kevin friend when you need him?
-
How long are we going to put up with this shit whoever the manager is

-
Zzzzzzzzz
-
The tescobags will piss over us in our next game too. Think Sunderland game could be the point fans turn on PL
-
thought that was the cardiff goal then
-
Need to make changes now. This game is drifting to another bore draw.

They will turn today if we lose.
-
I take it it's not going well then?
-
I'm actually pleased that West Brom are ahead at Chelsea. I know I might be the only one but hey.
-
We urgently need to drag Cardiff down to our level.
-
Is this any different to 90% of the games over the last 16 months?
Someone tell me where the improvement in football is.
-
West Brom, Sunderland ,Southampton and Fulham are our next games...I bet we don't even beat Fulham.
-
tonez went for the shot
never
-
Need a win today!!!
-
Tonev's so naive. I bet he believes in father Christmas.
-
I have turned on Lambert, he hasn't got a clue and im convinced now. Cardiff have had 58% possession.
-
This is so bad, we seem to be devoid of a game plan.
-
HA HA...bring on a right back....
-
Is this any different to 90% of the games over the last 16 months?
Someone tell me where the improvement in football is.
this.
-
This is so bad, we seem to be devoid of a game plan.
It is utterly shapeless.
I can't even work out what we are trying to do, but whatever it is, it isn't going to work for us.
-
Lowton? not a massively attacking change, let's hope it works.
-
I think, ultimately, the problem is that too many of these players just aren't good enough.
You cant buy players in poundland and expect them to compete with players from Tesco...
-
He now does what he should have started with - Lowton on kea off and bacuna more advanced.
-
4-4-2 with two big men up front. Not exactly cutting edge, is it? I expected more from the first Brit to win the Champ's League with a foreign team.
-
The tescobags will piss over us in our next game too. Think Sunderland game could be the point fans turn on PL
They will turn today if we lose.
A draw will be enough for some.
-
Lowton for KEA? Sigh.
-
Im waiting for the take the midfielders off and throw the ball forward tried and tested Lambert tactic.
Cardiff going for it now ******.
-
i like Bacuna thou ;) get him on the wing
-
Lowton for KEA? Sigh.
KEA is absolutely fucking garbage.
-
Moved Bacuna into midfield when he should have started the game like that. However, instantly paying off there.
-
why oh why oh why does he not play Helenius? I just don't get it.
-
Not long until Jan. PL you need to buy two decent midfiders
-
Honest question. This is as bad as Mcleish isn't it......
-
I hate those fouls. Bastard.
-
Crikey, what a goal that was.
-
bbbbaaaccccuuuunnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

-
Thank fuck we have got Bacuna.
-
GOOOAALLLLLLL
-
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
-
BACUNAAA
-
Bacuna the saviour yet again!
-
Yessss!!!!
-
Yesssssss
-
What a free kick!!!! Thank goodness for Bacuna.
-
FUCK.
ME.
RAGGED.
-
Legend.
-
WOOOOOOOOOWWWWW another fucking gem.
-
Lot more pleased about that though - get in
-
FUCKING GET THE FUCK< FUCKING WELL BASTARD IN YER TWATS!
-
You fooooooooooooookin Beauuuuuuuuuuuuuuttttyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
-
my fave new signing ;)
lambert you needed that
-
Bacuna goes into midfield, wins the free kick brilliantly and scores even more brilliantly. I love him.
-
FUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
-
Fucking hell Bacuna.
-
What a goal!!!!
-
That was the only way we were going to score at 0-0 today.
-
you knew he would score ;)
-
Bloody hell.
Speechless.
-
Bacuna seems the only player who can make up for us losing Delph. He's positive in midfield.
-
FUCK.
ME.
RAGGED.
Bend over :)
-
Fuckin get in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Not pretty to watch but a win is the main thing - we need it badly.
-
"Bacuna what a bender" Phil Thompson, Sky Sports
-
Bacuna's the only one of this summer's signings that looks anywhere near the part.
-
nice sub gaffer
-
Well this is unusual :)
-
We need another now, sit back and we'll invite them to attack us.
-
Another goal could see us into 9th place .
-
Bacuna's the only one of this summer's signings that looks anywhere near the part.
Okore.
-
We need to steady the ship now, keep the ball and stifle the opposition.
-
Oh yes Bacunna
-
We've immediately started showboating.
-
Get in.
-
Lambert's a genius, always said it ;)
-
Oh I just had a funny turn
-
Bacuna's the only one of this summer's signings that looks anywhere near the part.
Okore.
Well, we can't tell that much from the treatment table, but I hope so.
-
Better touch Kozac!!
-
It's so important we hang on to this. Fuck me, hanging on against Cardiff???
-
Oh Kozak. Fuck sake.
-
Poor poor touch from Kozak
-
we need benteke to get in on the action
-
Our whole demeanour changes when we're winning.
-
It's so important we hang on to this. Fuck me, hanging on against Cardiff???
To be fair, since we scored we've been pushing for another. We probably will be hanging on, but not yet.
-
We need to steady the ship now, keep the ball and stifle the opposition.
Not asking for much, are you Fergal?
-
Bacuna's the only one of this summer's signings that looks anywhere near the part.
Harsh on Okore.
-
We need to steady the ship now, keep the ball and stifle the opposition.
Not asking for much, are you Fergal?
Not really, just a bit of professionalism.
-
Gone to a back 5 now I think.
-
bellend aint scoring
-
Cracking player that Bacuna, needs to play in midfield all the time Lambo!!
-
Trevor Francis really is a cock end.
-

Not really, just a bit of professionalism.
Exactly my point.
-
Another poor throw in. Not out strong point are they?
-
Looks like mourinho is facing his 1st home defeat in the league.
-
Lowton back in and Bacuna into midfield looks a must really.
-
Benteke may decapitate Tonev soon.
-
fuck me Kozak scores
-
I KNEW he would score!
-
Get in Kozak, good head.
-
yesss
-
YYYEESSSS.
We're ON FIRE :)
-
2-0 fuck off Cardiff.
-
KOZAK YES!
-
Ohh Yessss!!

Not asking for much, are you Fergal?
Not really, just a bit of professionalism.
Exactly my point.
I know, just agreeing with you.
-
Get the fuck in Villa. Well played. Great ball out by Bacuna at the start again. Such a positive player. Him and Lowton together down the right should be dynamite.
-
changing Bacuna more forward as made massive difference
-
That's a really good head.
-
This is it kids. The title run starts today.
-
It's Lollipop time!
-
I KNEW he would score!
Never in doubt.... :)
-
Not an easy header that
-
Much better balance since kea went off and Lowton came on , releasing bacuna forward - most of us could see that at 2pm - why couldn't lambert?
-
BBC guy says Kozak been playing really well and deserved the goal
-
Fookin stream. All I saw of that was the celebration.
-
changing Bacuna more forward as made massive difference
Lets hope the manager remembers.
-
I'm not turning on Lambert, but I'd love to hear his justification for blowing 7 million quid of a limited transfer budget on a lanky striker with no mobility who's crap in the air, when we have nobody to create chances for him.
He's gonna score now, you know that don't you
You're welcome, by the way. ;-)
-
Are the goals in front of the Holte or the North Stand?
-
Amazing what a goal can do
-
BBC guy says Kozak been playing really well and deserved the goal
He has had 3 great headers on target today in fairness.
-
Corner all from Kozac putting it out for Sylla to get treatment.
-
Are the goals in front of the Holte or the North Stand?
Holte
-
I think Kozak's actually done quite well today, so pleased he got the goal there. He might not be Aguero, but he certainly puts a shift in.
-
Lowton and Bacuna to start next game
Like most people wanted today
-

It's all about the neck strength with that one.
-
A home clean sheet would be nice.
-
Clean sheet at home anyone?
-
Jordan Bowery, fuck me. If I were Helenius or Robinson I'd be a bit miffed.
-
When were we last 2 up at home? Sunderland?
-
Bowery. Jeeze, Helenius must be shite.
-
My spending the afternoon in the garden listening to Pat Murphy joyously reminding me how long we had gone without scoring a goal has worked wonders again....
I take full credit for this boys
-
A home clean sheet would be nice.
It would boost the confidence a bit, though the win is so important.
-
I'd like to see Helenius get some sort of chance.
-
Lowton and Bacuna to start next game
Like most people wanted today
Exactly , can't see what lambert sees in kea.
-
Not watched the game but very much hoping we're about to see a spell of games with bacuna in midfield and Lowton at right back. It just has the feel of a nice balance. Get Delph back in the middle and a left back, bring gabby and andi back into the mix and we start looking a better team.
Really want a clean sheet now!

you stay out in that garden more often mate!
-
Great day
We win
Most of our relegation rivals lose ;-)
Classless, chavy, loathsome tossers losing at home to the Tesco Bags. And yes, that's good news to me!
-

Nope it's all down to me, sat in the kitchen with pencils up my nose shouting Wibbble every so often.
-
10th as it stands
-
Lowton and Bacuna to start next game
Like most people wanted today
Exactly , can't see what lambert sees in kea.
He's about as dynamic as a slug on a Xanax. So pedestrian. He should go back to Holland.
-
shoot across lad

Thank you Dean, hope all well my friend
-
Benteke really wants a goal. Furious every time someone doesn't pass to him around the box.

all has been well in the last ten mins. I hope Lamberts learnt something today.

Let's credit your teamwork in successful eccentric domestic superstition doing the trick. Can you keep this up all season - or do you have people brave enough to live with each of you?!
-
Benteke is getting very frustrated.
-
How much does Benteke want it?
-
Bowery brings nothing to the party - might as well have brought Robinson or Johnson on.
-
penalty to chelsea with 20 seconds left!
-
Totally unjust penalty for Chelsea.
-
Bacuna right mid with Lowton overlapping just feels a good balance. Give us more width. Need a left sided player if we are going to play more of a four in midfield.
-
penalty to chelsea with 20 seconds left!
Score and we go 9th.
-
Anyone else completely unsurprised by Chavski getting a pen in the last seconds.
-
I would bring Lowton in next game
Delph comes in , maybe for Tonez
Cant really drop a goalscorer for Gabby , so keep Kozak in
weimann I would not start
-
All over and relax
-
what a shock, Chelsea get a penalty.

The missus has just stuck her head round the door to see if I am ok...
-
Praise the lord. We needed that.
-
what a shock, Chelsea get a penalty.
Would it have been one at the other end? I think we know better than most.
-
I'm still not sure about kozak and benteke up front together.
-

Of course not, the whole game is rank with favouritism.
